NOT ADVISABLE> These units are designed to have some space for air flow (In addition to the actual vents). Disturbing this balance can at best shorten the life of your unit and at worst create overheating and safety issues. This is especially true for arrangements above range/stove where they are already subject to increased ambient temperatures. Remember, it's not only the immediate discharge of latent heat but also the pathways for incoming air to exhaust that heat that must be considered. My advice, live with the "Noise" if normal. If not normal, have unit replaced. These are not very serviceable without safety concerns.
