It has a washable/replaceable screen on the bottom that draws in steam and grease from the range. It discharges the filtered air strait up from a vent behind the door.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The microwave has a 3 speed fan that exhausts out the top of the microwave (vents are at the top front). That is why this unit often needs a bump out kit so the exhaust clears the cabinet above the microwave. Had to bump out 1 1/2 inches for ours. Didn't know we needed the bump out till we read the directions and those materials are not included. Whirlpool sells separate bump out kits....My advice...measure carefully and know what you need before installation. But we are very pleased with this unit...looks nice and we enjoy the multiple functions.
