Apparently not a stupid question at all! I had to call Whirlpool to find out why mine wasn’t making ice the day after it was installed. The installers said they’d turned it on, and if you switched it according to what the front-facing part of the ice maker indicates, you’d be depressing the “O” side, not the “—“ side. After two holds I was told “your model has the on/off switch reversed.” Seems like they should slap a sticker on that and let consumers & installers know. Mine was replaced after neither the instaler or a repairman could diagnose the problem. Waste of time and energy.
