You actually have to tilt the shelf upward to pull it out and re-install it in a semi-downward tilt position. Open the doors as wide as you can get them. It is still a bit tight.

We tried for over 30 minutes with the display model at the store...we asked the sales agent if there was a trick..she tried too and in the process I could see how you could easily damage the rubber gasket around the frid edge....it also bumps the molded plastic. We have a wall to the left of the frig so I don't think I can open the doors wide enough to get the shelves out...too bad because it is perfect in every Other way.
