My unit has been whisper quiet except when it cycles which isn't often. This is normal. I'm 63 so this isn't my first fridge. Some noise is normal. None of the newer fridges cool as well as the old ones did. They just don't make them that way anymore. My last unit had 9 cool settings. This has 4. Pretty standard. My food stays cold. If I want my beverages icy cold I put them in the freezer for a while. Many of my friends do this as well. I'm happy with this fridge.
