I do not believe this model fridge has a linear compressor. It's my understanding after talking with our appliance repairman, that LG and Samsung are the 2 companies using linear compressors. Our LG compressor just failed and this Whirlpool is one he recommended. He said when the LG and Samsung fridges work, they're nice. But they have a high failure rate which is caused by the way the linear compressor operates. It boils the oil and causes the seals to prematurely fail which in turn burns the compressor up. When we had him out to look at our LG, he told us that even if we had wanted him to replace the compressor, he wouldn't do it because neither company has fixed this longstanding issue and likely we'd be replacing the compressor again in 2-3 years.
