Yes, but Whirlpool won't tell you this as the filter when inserted actually opens (or presses in) the valve to allow the water to flow into (and out of) the filter. The refrigerator will actually tell you to change filters based on time rather than actual usage. Whirlpool likes to sell their overpriced filters and don't share this information.
