“Is the external refrigerated drawer independently controlled or is it the same as the rest of the fridge? If it has a separate control, how accurate is it? I want to use it to keep drinks 1 degree above freezing while the rest of the fridge is warmer.”

The temperature for the refrigerated drawer cannot be set to a specific temperature. It's a physical part that you just slide to Produce or Deli.

Unfortunately, none of the bins have the ability to be temperature controlled independently from the Refrigerator itself. However, if you have items that you want to cool down for a period of time, you do have the Max Cool option that will lower the temperature of the refrigerator to cool down the contents faster.
