I like to put my soap in before I put my clothes in and while it is filling up with water. Does this machine let you do that? null

Yes. You have to close the lid and check it after a few minutes for the water level because of the sensor. Load the cloths so it can "re-sense" the load

No, this washer has a lock mechanism and will not start with the lid open.....I tried. This unit does wash clothes thoroughly....I am really impressed with how clean the clothes come out. I had my old unit for 22 years and it was not as efficient. I hope this helps. We are very happy with this unit.
