“the lock on start button how do I stop wash cycle to let clothes soak for 30 or so mins? so so disappointed in this. could I have a repair man take out that part of machine ?”

You can't. Use the presoak feature. You don't run this machine--it runs you.

It remembers the wash programming for a certain amount of time which is stated in the manual, like 3 minutes or something. So either leave the lid open or wait that length of time then close it to soak and press the start button again when your are ready for the wash to begin.
