“Does this model have a drain filter that needs to be cleaned out on a regular basis? I read the owner's manual & it doesn't mention it.”

Not necessarily a drain filter but more of a catch by the pump. It unscrews by hand and you can remove things like pens, coins etc. Only realy need to open it if unit is not draining well.
