“Never had an HE machine and I'm confused on how much HE detergent and softener to use. Does anyone know how much I should use?”

• Our topload HE Whirlpool washer has a detergent dispenser in the top of the washer. We fill it to the bottom edge of the gray cover in the middle of the dispenser. All the wash seems to come out clean. I suspect the detergent dispenser holds about a 1/4 cup of detergent.

• LAG60, always use High Efficiency (HE) detergents and follow the HE detergent manufacturer’s instructions regarding the amount of HE detergent to use.
