“I just had this range installed and was testing out the oven at 400. It worked but I could feel noticeable heat blowing forward by the front panel and back-burners. I called the installers and they said it's normal; is that correct? Seems dangerous”

Yep. It does indeed vent across the back burners. Definitely be careful what's on top of your stove (no plastics!)
