On our unit, it does not get hot. At a time so far we have only used three of the burners but that includes the two biggest up front. The knobs were cool. We have also used the oven and the broiler and the knobs still didn't get hot. We have only had our unit for 3 weeks now and enjoying it.

No, they don't get hot. I haven't seen a model with black knobs.

i have not experienced my knobs getting hot when cooking the knobs are in the front away from the fire.

The knobs on my model like this do Not get hot at all. I'm not certain about other color options.

they only get hot if you leave the oven door open for a long time. they are plastic, but rather durable and i have not seen any ill effects from them getting really hot sometimes.
