How come the cooktop grates on this model have "spaces" or "holes" where the burners are? On other whirlpool models there is a full grill grate with no holes.I am confused. null

I know, looks weird, right? The grates make it very easy to place pots and pans in the right place over the flame and heat. Even small pots do not tip over. The burners work perfectly with the grates.

It is probably decorative. The cast iron grates run the entire width and length of the oven with the cut outs over the burners. Pots with a rounded bottom will tilt if not placed "just so."

I would think the spaces is for the hear bulbs that make each burner hot. I'm sure if U order this product, it's something U will definitely love and if Ur not satisfied I'm sure U can return it to the store. I live it, it gets really hot and really fast if put on high and the oven produces even heat. I'm sure that you'll love this product. Not to mention it's made here in America.
