The MacBook Air has an integrated solution; that is, it doesn't actually have a standalone GPU within it. This card can handle much more graphically than the MacBook Air's Intel iGPU.

Being a MacBook Air owner myself, I was able to run a rendering test between the two. My test was rendering a complex multi-layer photoshop file. the MacBook Air completed the task in 12.4 seconds, whereas the Radeon RX 550 completed the image rendering in only 5.2 seconds.

Usually an aftermarket card will be able to handle many more fps but you are also comparing this to a laptop if I'm understanding your question. Desktop units will 9/10 times have better graphics capability because of cooling, larger cpu etc. I use this card to reduce stress on the integrated graphics of my i5 and it is much more stable for gaming or mid level graphics designing.
