“I have 2 Bose 301 series V speaker that I want to connect to this receiver and use this as a stereo receiver. I believe the speaker are 10 - 150 watts per channel. This receiver is 400 watts. If I crank the volume up is there chance of damage”

Having an amp with higher watts will make the sound quality better than having lower watt amp. Its all in the ears. Crank it up but don's crank it up high enough to damage the speakers. Bose are made pretty well so I do not think you will have a problem unless you are clipping them out.
