You could have a 1.1 and it would "work" i.e. there would be sound coming out of both channels, but without a center channel the sound will not be very full or clear. The center channel does about 60% of the work for movies and music with most of that 60% comprised of vocals. I'm sure there's a reason you're not using a center channel just wanted to let you know.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This receiver is designed for 5.1 surround sound. Not using a center channel will cut most of your sound out unless you use the straight setting (front left and right only). You are better off getting a cheap speaker for the center channel.
