Yes. It's has 5 channels for speakers: 1 for center, 1 for left, 1 for right, 1 for back left, and 1 for back right. The .1 is for a subwoofer connection via RCA.

Surround sound systems require a center speaker if that is what you are asking.

Yes, that's part of the 5.1 setup. There is also a littl microphone that you can put in the middle of the room and the receiver will do an automatic Equalization and individual volume leveling of each speaker. It's pretty cool.
