Yes, it can be used in a grill. I've had great results with it when cooking with it in my 22" Weber Kettle grill -- perhaps the best grilled chicken I've ever done (and the easiest too).

Yes, assuming the grill doesn’t interfere with signal between thermo and dock. I use a Weber kettle and had to place the dock on the handle of the Weber in order to remain connected to thermo. While I charged thermo between every use, with fresh batteries, the thermo failed to connect to dock after three uses. I recommend you save your money and not buy this device. Support from Yummly did not resolve this issue.
