Descent but not great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Considering the high price of this Sony sound bar and woofer, the product is ok--certainly better than the built in speakers of the Sony tv' that we bought with the sound bar--but not as good as I hoped. Since it's a 3.1 channel sound bar, I really hoped to get great clarity of the dialogue on programs we watch. But to get that clarity, I then have to sacrifice the over all sound quality. I do like the variety of settings you can change on the remote (sports, cinema, news, gaming, etc.) and the 3 settings for increasing the voice clarity. I'm still playing around with those settings. Given the pros/cons of the sound bar, I would still recommend this to a friend--so long as you get it at the sale price, not full price.

Something I Learned

The newer sound formats are great, but only if do you have a true professional home theater installed speakers mounted in the ceilings and walls etc. This Sony HD ZF9 tries to do too many things at once. Trying to watch the news or a regular sitcom on TV the audience and surround the fax in the background end up being lower than the voice. So you turn it louder in the subwoofer gets louder than it needs to be despite the fact of you are you just did it. So then you increase the center channel voice boosting settings and then it just sounds Tinny and not warm. I switch to Sonos which just a standard Dolby 5.1 surround without the fake Atmos FX. And everything sounds so much better

I have to turn it up to hear the dialogue clearly which doesn’t go good with my downstairs neighbors. Of course I think the salesman was letting me listen to the higher end model and selling me the cheaper sound bar. Kind of like bait and switch but the product is very good

Watching movies is fabulous. My wife says I am too loud when she is upstairs trying to sleep.I have Directv so I am connected via HDMI. The only thing I wish is, being able to listen to bluetooth and still seeing my DirecTV programming. I can do that on my LG soundbar in another room. Any suggestions?? Thats why I dont give it 5 stars. Otherwise I love this Sony system!

Not the quality I would expect from Sony

Owned for 8 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this product hoping it would be a nice upgrade from my budget Vizio SB-3251 Soundbar 5.1 that I bought in 2017 and pair well with my Sony TV. I even purchased the wireless Sony speakers to complete the 5.1 setup. I really wanted to like this system, but I just couldn't. With the exception of the larger subwoofer that the Sony system has, the sound delivered by the Sony system I paid $1200 for (and the Sony Wireless speakers are certainly not worth even half their price), was no better than the Vizio I paid $200 for three years ago. I also own a Samsung Q6 Harmon Kardon Soundbar set that was quite a bit less than this Sony and performs much better, especially with the Atmos sound. I also had issues with the Sub cutting out when it had a clear line of sight to the soundbar and I made sure there were no routers interfering as they suggest on their site. I also toggled off various other thing that they suggest on their forums, but no luck. This could be a decent purchase for someone upgrading from TV speakers, but if you are looking for good value for your money, look elsewhere.

Make sure that software is updated as it helps the overall performance of the soundbar. If the sound skips on cutting out on the subwoofer, please check the following that may resolve the issue:
If there is a device nearby that generates electromagnetic waves, such as a wireless LAN or a microwave oven in use, locate the system apart from it.
If there is an obstacle between the main unit and the rear speaker, move or remove it.
Locate the main unit and the rear speaker as close as possible.
Switch the network connection of the TV or Blu-ray Disc player from wireless to wired.
