No one would call this quiet. It makes an unpleasant buzzing sound, starting out very loud. I also purchased the Insignia Mini Fridge with Glass door, and it also makes this unpleasant buzzing sound. So why do they both get reviews of 'quiet'? My guess is that Insignia went cheap on some elements recently and they no longer are quiet. For sound sensitive people, the Insignia is not the fridge for you. Neither of these mini fridges can be near a wall, they have to be at least 5"s from the wall on both sides and 3" on the back. Also, they run quite warm. They cannot be on a rug. On the plus side, both mini fridges look very nice and have very nice layouts. They would be perfect if they made a white noise hum instead of the obnoxious buzz.

Produces a lot of ice shavings in the freezer area because there's no auto defrost, so just keep that in mind and know you'll have to clean it every few days/weeks.

I’ve had one that wasn’t made that way and the freezer never kept my food frozen. So far this is great. Now I can make ice cubes with this mini fridge.

But it's still a really good fridge would definitely buy it again if needed.

As a matter of fact others in his dorm have the same unit and they like it. The freezer part is small. and the ice cube tray is even smaller, but everything works great.
