Customers are positive about the sound quality, comfort, battery life, open-ear design, fit, bone conduction, and lightweight features of the OpenRun Pro Premium Bone Conduction Open-Ear Sport Headphones. They appreciate the clear and immersive sound, comfortable and secure fit, long battery life, ability to hear their surroundings, lightweight design, and innovative bone conduction technology. On the other hand, customers are negative about the volume, bass, price, connectivity, and microphone. They feel the volume could be louder, the bass is lacking, the price is high, the connectivity is unstable, and the microphone could be improved for better call quality.

I have waited for wht these Shokz headphones do for years. Headphones hurt my ears. Shokz has done it right with headphones that sit on the temples of your ear. No device in my ear. The sound is excellent. The design is terrific. It fits comfortably. Bluetooth pairing is easy and works smoothly. The unit charges with a usb cable and it is a magnetic connection from headphone to cable. A nice feature indeed. Typical controls on the headphones work smoothly. On/Off and Volume control buttons work well. There is a multi-function button that does just that. It controls several functions by repeated taps. This headphone accepts phone calls and the clarity of the call is very good. Phone sound quality is good on both ends. The charge holds for a good amount of time. Shokz has an app for the headphones, but it is rather basic and really not necessary. For some reason every company thinks they need an app. I really like these headphones. Quality. Great Design. Comfort. Ease of Use. Shokz has a winner here with the OpenRun Pro headphones.

If you’re seeking headphones that prioritize safety, comfort, and situational awareness during outdoor activities, Shokz’s bone-conduction models—particularly the OpenRun and OpenRun Pro—offer compelling options. Here’s a comprehensive review to help you determine which model suits your needs. ⸻ Shokz OpenRun & OpenRun Pro: Overview OpenRun: Ideal for budget-conscious users, the OpenRun provides solid sound quality with an IP67 waterproof rating, making it suitable for various weather conditions. OpenRun Pro: A premium choice, the OpenRun Pro enhances audio quality with added bass and offers improved comfort features. ⸻ Sound Quality OpenRun: Delivers clear audio, especially in mid and high frequencies. While bass is present, it lacks the depth found in traditional earbuds. OpenRun Pro: Features TurboPitch technology, enhancing bass response and overall sound richness. This makes it more suitable for bass-heavy music genres. ⸻ Comfort & Fit Both models are lightweight and designed for secure fit during physical activities. The OpenRun Pro, however, offers a more refined fit with less clamping force, making it comfortable even for extended wear or when wearing glasses. ⸻ Battery Life & Charging OpenRun: Offers up to 8 hours of playback with a quick charge feature providing 90 minutes of use from a 10-minute charge. OpenRun Pro: Extends battery life up to 10 hours and includes a rapid charge feature—5 minutes of charging yields approximately 1.5 hours of playback. ⸻ Durability & Water Resistance OpenRun: Boasts an IP67 rating, ensuring protection against dust and water immersion up to 1 meter. OpenRun Pro: Has an IP55 rating, offering protection against limited dust ingress and water spray. While sufficient for sweat and light rain, it’s less robust than the OpenRun in this aspect. ⸻ Controls & Connectivity Both models support Bluetooth connectivity and feature intuitive controls for volume, playback, and calls. The OpenRun Pro additionally offers EQ settings accessible via the Shokz app, allowing users to customize audio profiles. ⸻ Final Verdict • Choose OpenRun if you prioritize water resistance and a more affordable price point. • Opt for OpenRun Pro if enhanced audio quality and additional comfort features are worth the investment. Both models excel in providing situational awareness, making them excellent choices for outdoor enthusiasts. ⸻

I love my Shokz OpenRun Pro for workouts and daily use. The bone conduction design lets me hear my surroundings while still enjoying music, which feels much safer outdoors. They’re super lightweight and comfortable, and the sound quality is surprisingly clear for open-ear headphones. Battery life lasts all day, and the fit stays secure during intense activities. Perfect if you want to stay aware and stay connected.

I’ve been curious about these for a long time but i was nervous spending so much on an unfamiliar technology. They were deeply discounted recently and I got them. Im glad i did. Im glad I got a good price, but i think they’re worth more than I paid. They sound great, but most importnatly to me, they fit great. I wear them when I take my dog for walks, grocery shopping and when I ride my bike. They’re so comfortable, I often forget I have them on after a walk and only remember when i go to adjust my hair and feel them. Calls sound great, BT connection is solid, battery life is great. The controls are simple and easy to find and operate while wearing. I have just a couple things i wish were better, but these are very minor issues. I wish they turned off automatically after being idle for a long time, they could be a smidge louder, and I’d like a less bulky case with a built in charger. Although, the battery lasts so long that i havent needed to charge them often and having the charger separate allows for using a different case. They do have a new version that are two separate pieces more like traditional earbuds, but I actually like that these are connected becasue it makes them super securely attached to my head. Speaking of my head, its a big one and these fit no problem. I love these and they’ve quickly become my main set of headphones.

Packaging was minimal and came with the headphones, a hard shell case, and a proprietary charging cable, that was short. I do wish that the charging cable was usb c to allow for using other cables that I already have and not having to have a dedicated cable for the headphones. The headphones are not heavy and are curved around the back of your head/neck. The heaviest part of the headphones being the part that attaches to the ear loop. The material of the headphones is smooth but leaves some finger prints if they are oily, but can be wiped off. Synching the headphones was probably the quickest and easiest synchronization I’ve ever done. It showed up right away. There’s only three buttons; the power button shares duties with one of the volume buttons at the bottom of the ear price behind the ear and the pause/play/answer/end call on the left ear piece. A long hold will power the headphones on and off. On power up it provides the battery level. It’s a tad annoying that it doesn’t do this in percentage, it just gives levels example high/medium. Sound is decent but is not for audio enthusiasts, but these headphones are not meant for that. They have a good microphone and sound quality for video and music. There is some sound that can be heard when standing next to a person wearing them depending on how loud the volume is. I could tell if it was music or talking happening if standing near the headphones. The most noticeable part when wearing the o headphones are the ear lol pieces. The loop guy goes behind the ear and is comfortable . For me the left earpiece sitting right before the tregas part of the ear is comfortable and sits right and doesn’t move. The right part of my ear I can’t get it to sit in the same comfortable spot it tends to love and push against it and is a tad painful after a few minutes. This may not be everyone and might me just me, but I never got it to sit right. Phone calls could be answered using the pause play button. The ring did come through on the headphones but was a little hard to hear compared to the phone ringing itself unless having the volume way up. I didn’t want it in call volume blaring so I had the headphone volume a medium which caused the problem. It’s fixable if you don’t kind having the volume way up. Having the volume all the way up or wait to put on for a sec the bass will vibrate and the buzzing sensation is crazy and a little off-putting. All together I love the one headphones. The sit and you don’t have to worry about them squeezing out of your ear and falling off and stop leave you open to being aware and gable to hear when needed.

I’ve been looking at these headphones for a long time and had seen mixed reviews. I finally decided to pull the trigger and I’m glad i did. I’ve owned them for a month and use them all day every day. Here’s why I think they’re great: 1. They stay in place. I work in the trades. I work inside, outside, climbing ladders, crawling under things, upside down, in the dirt, in the rain, in attics, on roofs you name it. I never have to worry about these falling off. I have never been able to keep earbuds or “in ear headphones” in place and I’ve tried all of them. I wear them all day and sometimes I forget I’m wearing them. 2. They’re sturdy. I sweat. A lot. I work in south Florida. In the summertime I measure the heat by how many shirts I sweat through in a day. I also get dirty and work in environments that aren’t exactly “electronics friendly”. I’ve had other headphones that didn’t make it through the first day. 30 days in and these work just like they were new. 3. They keep my hands free. I can answer a call or pause my music with a touch of a button on the left side of the headphones. The volume buttons are on the right side. I don’t need to take my phone out or stick my dirty fingers in my ears either. The answer button is placed in such a way that I can even answer a call with the back of my hand. Not needing to take my gloves off to answer a call is awesome. 4. Situational awareness. I can listen to music and still hear what’s going on around me. This is a big one. With earbuds I feel like even if I paused the music I would still need to take them out to hear what people are saying. I also drive a golf cart and operate machinery. It’s a safety issue to be able to hear what’s going on. Even with music playing I can hear people talk at a conversational level. Noise cancelling headphones are great on a plane or in a waiting room, but they don’t work so well on a job site. As a bonus, they work with earplugs in. In fact, the music sounds a little better with earplugs in. So cool. 5. Decent sound quality. I’m not an audiophile, I just love music. I don’t need to have true recording studio sound at all times. I read many reviews that talk about the horrible sound quality, so my expectations were low. I was very surprised by how great they sound. They sound better than any cheap or midgrade headphones I have tried. I would say they give many “high end” headphones a run for their money too. Phone calls are hands down the clearest I’ve ever heard on any headphones. Ever. And I have not had anyone yet tell me that they can’t hear me. 6. Battery life. I put these on at 6am and I don’t take them off till I get home around 6pm. I listen to music all day and make/receive about 25-50 calls in that time period. I have not run out of battery yet. I don’t play music very loud, which probably helps with the battery life. Negatives? Well I’ll give you a couple. If you turn the music up full volume, the vibration behind the ear is a little uncomfortable. I never listen to it at full volume so it doesn’t matter to me. But it’s worth mentioning. Also, the part that wraps around the back of my head sits off my neck a little bit, so if I’m laying down it kinda pushes them off position a little. Also, if you have to wear “over the ear” style hearing protection, these will obviously interfere with that. That’s about all I can come up with for negatives. I love these things. If I lost or broke them tomorrow I would go straight to Best Buy to get another set. No question.

The original Shokz OpenRun Pro (launched September 2021) is a lightweight (~27 g), durable bone‑conduction headset ideal for runners and cyclists. It offers surprisingly clear sound and enhanced bass over earlier models while keeping your ears open for ambient awareness, thanks to PremiumPitch 2.0+ drivers, Bluetooth 5.1, multipoint connectivity, app-based EQ, and fast charging (5 min = ~90 min playback) shokz.com +15 accidentalrandonneur.wordpress.com +15 soundguys.com +15 . However, it uses a proprietary magnetic charging cable—a specific two-pin connector unique to Shokz—that’s convenient but means you can’t just grab any old USB-C cord if you lose it thetechnologyman.com +1 bestbuy.com +1 . The IP55 water resistance is solid but not swim-friendly, and mic quality is merely average. Overall, it’s a feature-packed, comfortable pick for outdoor use—just be sure to keep track of that one-of-a-kind charger or order a spare.

Was in the market for a pair of headphones for running, hiking, and other physical activity. Picked up the OpenRun Pro based off of Reddit recommendations. Was impressed with the fit and the tech. I had not previously experienced audio through bone conduction and came away impressed at the clarity of audio (at lower levels). The headphones felt comfortable out of the box and held up extremely well during runs/heavy workouts. Not having anything in the ears was a plus as well. Sadly, the audio quality just isn't there yet. While fairly clear at lower levels, the audio distorts a bit at higher levels (which I needed during runs as you your surroundings are much louder than with in-ear or over-the-ear headphones). The bass was also lacking, though that wasn't a huge issue for me as I don't like overdoing it on bass. I do like a little bit of bass, and it just gets lost, especially when doing physical activity. Battery life was fairly decent, no connection issues with an iPhone 11. Sadly, the audio quality was enough for me to move on. I'd still recommend these headphones for those working out in quieter areas or at home. I'd even recommend them for people with difficulty hearing. The bone conduction tech is pretty neat and I'm excited to see how it improves over the years.

I have used them more for my work-from-home routine than outdoor activities. I spend almost 3-5 hours a day on work related calls and I have tried different in-ear, on-the-ear and over-the-ear headphones. These headphones are hands down the best ones when it comes to comfort. I barely notice them and the call quality and battery life is excellent. I have already recommended them to a number of my friends :) Some more details: They come with a nice and sturdy case and a charging cable. The charging cable has USB on one end and a special magnetic connector on the other. The magnetic connector connects to the headphones. The cable is rather short. There is a quick charging feature. Plus a full charge provides almost 10 hours of battery life. I am usually able to use them whole day without a need for a recharge. The band that keeps the buds together is quite inflexible and it lies at the back of your head over the neck. So, I don't think there is any personalization possible but the design is good which keeps them in place even if you move around/shake your head. ** I haven't used them for a run yet. As mentioned, the sound quality and call quality are excellent. The buttons on the buds are easy to use. They will let u take/disconnect call, skip/rewind tracks, increase/decrease volume. ** There is a bit of tickle/vibration which is normal for bone conduction head sets.

I bought one of these for my son when they first came out and he loved it and used it until one side stopped working this last year. He just got this pair for his bday and he says it is so much more streamlined and performs better than the original. He is just as delighted as he was with the first pair. I listened to them and I can't tell the difference between this and just hearing through an earbud. Also, when I turned it up, it did make it hard to hear other things. It definitely felt like I was "listening" not like I was sensing it through bone conduction but if you remove it from your ears, you definitely just feel vibration, you don't hear sound. So these are interesting and great. It doesn't create that pressure feeling that you get when you listen to music too loud but it does block other sounds if you turn it up too much.

The Shokz OpenRun Pro Premium headphones are a great choice for anyone who wants quality and convenience. The sound is crisp and well-balanced, making music and podcasts enjoyable whether I’m working out or just relaxing. One of the standout features is the microphone — it works really well for talking, with clear voice pickup and no hassle during calls. I don’t have to repeat myself or worry about background noise getting in the way. They’re also lightweight and comfortable, which makes them easy to wear for long periods. The open-ear design is perfect for staying aware of my surroundings while still enjoying good audio. Overall, the Shokz OpenRun Pro Premium delivers great sound quality, a reliable microphone, and comfort that fits both active and everyday use

    >> Overview The Shokz OpenRun Pro Premium headphones are the device to use when you want or need to be aware of your surroundings while listening to music and podcasts or having a call on your cell phone. They seem to be targeted for the outdoors person; however, I’ve found that you can enjoy them pretty much anyplace. With the Shokz OpenRun Pro Premium headphones, I can enjoy listening to almost perfect music in the serenity of my bedroom while reading a book or just staring at the ceiling or being entertained with some tunes while shopping at the noisy supermarket. It is easy to operate, it has buttons to allow you to answer a call and bring the volume up/down, among others. I would give this device a rating between 4 and 5. - Pros: open-ear, comfortable, decent sound quality, easy to operate. - Cons: headband not adjustable. >> Open-ear Bone conduction with open-ear come together, I am not aware of other consumer technology that can set your ears free while still being able to wear a headphone like device and listen to music. I really love this concept, it is just great having nothing covering or inside your ears (the only thing I am not sure is long term effects of this technology on your ear-subsystem). I own a good number of different headphones and headsets, and I would say, that after at most a couple of hours, I cannot stand any of them covering my ears or the sides of my head; whereas I can wear the Shokzs for hours, they are perhaps the most comfortable wearing headphones I’ve own. Well, I already own an AfterShokz (now known as Shokz) OpenComm Headset, that came out in 2020, which I almost exclusively use for home office work as it has the mic sticking out. In contrast, this Shokz set is perfect to be used anywhere, no weird mic sticking out, it just feels like other regular set of headphones. >>Silent/Noisy places When used in silent areas/surroundings, e.g. bedroom, office or outdoors areas with minimal noise, the sound quality that comes from this device is great, so you can enjoy your favorite tunes at decent volume levels while still being aware if something is coming your way or someone is calling you in the distance. I’ve noticed, though, that in crowded or noisier places, you do need to place the volume fairly high. At that point, people who are nearby, such as in the Supermarket, can hear a buzzing coming from you. I still need to get used to wearing the device outdoors in public because sometimes I feel like other people are also listening to what I am listening. >> On the move I’d say these are great headphones when going jogging or walking outside. The device properly secures itself around your ears and it doesn’t fall while doing some workout. The headband seems to help the device to be kept in place, and it doesn’t really get in the way although it is not adjustable (my only complaint). I already mentioned that the only issue I saw when doing something outdoors (or where there is too much ambient sound) is that you must turn the volume up a little too much to get some sound into your brain. >> Sound quality I was not expecting top-notch sound experience; however, the sound quality that comes out of the device is very good. If you are listening to music, the quality is more noticeable in silent places when compared to more noisy ones (of course this is expected). Now for making calls and/or listening to podcasts, this thing is just perfect to use almost anywhere. It is stated that it has some improvements with respect to its predecessors, such as bass, and I’d say that indeed, overall, the quality feels better. I’ve noticed that in some songs, the sound of the drums and voice is a little enhanced, perhaps just the way this technology works makes some sounds to be more noticeable (?). Well, it is stated that this has two EQ settings, one standard and other vocal booster, that I have yet to define which one this one is configured with. >> Battery Battery life is great, in constant use it can last one full working day (which I did just for experimenting). If you use it for a couple of hours each day, it can last for several days. One thing I found that is not accurate is the remaining battery life indicator that comes in my phone, for example, it showed it had 20% left of battery at some point, but after a few seconds it shut down. Charging times have been above 30 min so far, I’d love for it to charge faster.

    Love Them With One Problem

This is the second pair I’ve bought (the first was when they were called Aftershokz). I bought both from Amazon. The volume of the second second pair isn’t as loud as the first pair, but I wouldn’t call that a deal-breaker. Both are lightweight and comfortable. The top end versions I have last a long time and charge quickly. The only problem I’ve had is the speakers detaching inside the headphones and rattling. I can shake the headphones and hear the rattle. This is a common issue with these. If the folks at Shokz get this corrected, this would be great. I wear them everywhere, even in some noizy environments! They are the best bone conduction headphones I’ve worn so far.

    Usage for the hearing impaired.

Usage: I purchased the Shokz-OpenRun Pro for the longer battery life. I do find this is adequate if barely for a day's use. I am totally deaf in one ear so wearing the standard earpieces leaves me with very few choices. I purchased with the hope I would have the ability to hear other conversations, safety while driving etc. For the most part this has been true. The volume is lacking with background noises going on but with only one ear I think the average person will get double the sound and won't need more volume. Comfort: The wrap around over the ears works pretty good for the eye glass users. It may take a while for the user to get used to the pressure of the sound conductor against the side of the face. In fact, Eye Glass wearers may get used to the pressure faster than non-users. Hey, now you get a taste of the nose rests we deal with. They are comfortable enough I accidently got into the shower with them on and there were no issues afterwards. Issues: While the streaming works perfectly I am plagued with disconnects while using on phone calls. While streaming will last for hours, phone calls may last a couple minutes to 15 minutes before losing contact with the phone (Apple). The worst thing is you get no warning like "Disconnecting" etc. It is not disconnecting the call itself so if I am close enough to the phone my customers can still hear me. I do not necessarily think this is the head set but maybe. Adjustability: There is no adjustability at all. For me this is ok. For someone who has a small head, there may be an issue. I have talked with others who swear the tightness gives them a headache. I have not had that happen to me, however you do have to have the conductor in exactly the right place to get the full volume, so there must be some pressure to keep it there. Quality: Unlike some earbuds, I get sound from both sides even though I can only hear in one ear. Most people don't even realize they only get sound in the left side if they have a wired headset. I get the full sound in both sides, so I doubt I get stereo, but i used to have to turn my left air buds upside to get sound in my right ear. Final thoughts. This is by far the best headset I have used. While not perfect due to losing the connection and inability to attach to multiple devices with instant connections, it is adequate for my needs. If my phone calls did not drop, I would give this a really high mark.

When I saw that Shokz had rebranded themselves from AfterShokz and released the updated OpenRun Pro headset I had to give them a try. Unboxing: The OpenRuns come in a nice logoed retail box and inside there’s a clamshell soft sided hard shell case and inside that is the headset very well held in and protected in a perfectly form fitting molded insert. In the other half of the clam shell there’s an elastic loop holding the proprietary USB charging cable. Also inside the box is a quick start guide, manual and card asking you download the Shokz app for either Android or IOS. Inspecting: I already have the AfterShokz OpenComm headset and really liked it, it is “was” my headset of choice when wanting to hear my surroundings. The OpenRun are really close to the same layout as the OpenComm except that there’s no boom mic and the MFC button is on the left side. The volume buttons are in the same location but are larger square switches instead of the small round orange ones of the OpenComm. The transducers of the OpenRun are larger, and there’s a grill mesh type opening on three sides of each, “front/back/bottom”, the OpenComms transducers are sealed with no openings. And the proprietary charging cable is still the same and you’ll have to make sure to keep track of it because you cannot charge them with a normal USB cable. Setting up: The new OpenRun is set up pretty much the same way, “I’m using Android so this review reflects that”. Pairing is really easy, just press/hold the + button till you hear “pairing” and pair to your phone. I tried pairing with a Google Pixel 6, Samsung S21 and a Galaxy Fold 3 and all paired without a hitch. Use: I was really happy with the OpenComm headset as I have some hearing issues and the bone conduction “for me” sounds perfectly clear for phone/voice conversations. Music was ok but sounded more “flat” with no base, and I only used them for phone calls. The new OpenRun headsets sound is much clearer, and does have more of a bass feeling than the old. The app also give you two settings for “Vocal” and “Standard” there’s no custom tweaking and hopefully Shokz will release and update that allows it. Using the app during calls and setting the app to “Vocal” calls are loud and perfectly clear. I made quite a few phone calls already and everyone thought I sounded very clear, I found that there wasn’t a need for the boom mic even when outside while it was fairly windy. Next I tried some streaming music, and set the app to “Standard”, there’s a definite difference in music quality over the OpenComm, music is a good bit clearer and there’s a definite boost in bass. It’s not earthshaking bass like you would get from OTE headphones but it’s good enough “for me” and I like having the my ears open when I need to hear things going on around in my environment “these are not noise canceling”. Conclusion: I’m really enjoying the new OpenRun headset, not having the boom mic means I don’t have to worry about that getting in the way. I so miss having it so I can simply grab onto the mic to mute it quickly if I needed to but I can easily deal with that since the sound clarity is better than the old model. Battery run time looks to be right around 10-12 hours, and I had a few very lengthy conversations that barely ran the battery down. Charging it is very quick and I could believe the manufacturer that 5 minutes gives over 1 hour of talk time. If you are looking for a new set of Bluetooth headphones and would like to keep your ears open so you can hear your surroundings then the Shockz OpenRun headset will be right up your alley. The bone conduction is sort of odd at first but you get used to it very quickly and these are so light and unobtrusive I’ve forgotten I had them on in multiple occasions.

absolutely love my Shokz OpenRun Pro headphones! The bone conduction technology works beautifully—I can listen to music or take calls clearly while still being aware of my surroundings, which makes them perfect for running and cycling. The fit is lightweight and comfortable, even during long workouts, and they never slip out of place. The sound quality is excellent for open-ear headphones—surprisingly rich with good bass—and the battery life is impressive. I can get through multiple workouts on a single charge, and the quick charge feature is a lifesaver when I’m in a rush. I also really like the Steel Blue color—sleek and stylish without being flashy. Overall, these are the best sport headphones I’ve owned: safe, comfortable, and premium quality. Highly recommend them to anyone who wants great audio without sacrificing awareness.

They hold charge well, the carrying case is great. Audio is great & connects quickly & easily to your device. I feel safer running trails and love that it's comfy to wear with sunglasses and/or a visor. I've used it for meetings and audio on both sides is perfect. Couple things I'd change in a future version: something to hold the charging cable in place in the case, more volume options (in some situations 1 is too quiet and one up is too loud)
