The product itself is very nice - easy to install, making good sound. But, the one I received from Bestbuy has two taller and two shorter speakers, which is different from what is advertised. Not sure if this is an old or foreign version. Customer service doesn't have any idea and never been helpful. I am happy with the sound it's making, but...

Sound is nice, but DVD player is fussy

For a HTIB, the sound on this system is pretty good; better than the Panasonic HTIB it replaced. But the DVD player is problematic. Because it's a top-load design, you have to click the disk onto the spindle. This didn't work well with Netflix DVD's, which have a label applied around the center and interferes with the tabs on the spindle. If the disk isn't firmly attached with all three tabs, the disk wobbles a bit. Even worse, after it's closed, if the disk is wobbly it gets stuck and the top won't open again so you can fix it. This was almost a weekly occurrence, especially when children were using it. Cycling power and quickly hitting "open" before the disk could spin up again was the only remedy. I see this as a design flaw on these top-load designs; a draw-type design doesn't have this issue. So there's nothing to "repair". The sliding door is certainly slick, but not worth the trouble it causes. This system would probably be OK for someone that doesn't rent disks, or is diligent enough to ensure the disk is on right each time. It's otherwise a compact system with decent sound for movies (not really music) that doesn't take up much space. Kudos to Best Buy BTW. I lived with this several weeks past my return window, but the local store agreed to take it back and give me store credit toward separate components.

Dual purpose DVD and 5.1 sound system

My main reason for choosing this system was to have a better sound system for my new Samsung flat panel TV. I had to experiment with the connections and settings to get the Sony to communicate properly with the TV, but it's working nicely now. When I turn on the TV with the TV remote, the Sony turns on and outputs the TV's sound (in 5.1 surround when it's available). The TV remote controls the volume just fine. The sound quality is quite acceptable. The rear speakers are wireless making setup much simpler. The only negatives I can think of are the Sony has no user settings for equalization and at least once during playback of a non-Bluray DVD the player hung and could only be reset by unplugging the AC power.

Easy to set up with real good sound. Base is really strong, but just tone it down for my listening. Wanted a system with 3D and I'm happy with this one

This was an open box product when ordered, dont expect anyone to come and fix it from Best Buy, it costs money. Otherwise it goes well with My 4K / 3D Sony TV, they both go hand in hand. Was scared after reading the reviews of this product, but wanted to experience it my self. It is certainly a great product. Go for it, if you are thinking to pick one. Don't hink, pick it.

Easy setup. If you're really into audio you may notice the slight tones from plastic speaker enclosures. Hardly noticeable if you're into the movie. The screen mirroring doesn't work with Apple stuff without NFC( not shure about iPhone 6) the tv slideshow app works good as a remote. iPhone 5s and ipad2 Bluetooth pandora well. I like that when you turn everything on it doesn't blast the volume you had it at until you press the volume button and it doesn't blast commercials although you may notice a delay. in a 15x24 living room I've been asked several times to turn it down.

This is very good home theater as far as sound quality goes but the its software has issues as I need to keep unplugging it to restart or the apps keep freezing up after 2-3 hours. e.g Home screen wont come up unless I unplug it.

I was looking for something small, inexpensive, and rather simple to install, but I did not want to sacrifice sound. l looked at several sound bar options, and the sound quality was sufficient. BUT, in order to really have the true "theater" experience you NEED the rear speakers for the audio to envelop you and produce a theatrical experience. Sonic field positioning is the true joy of watching movies, and now most cable providers broadcast in 5.1 as well. I am totally impressed by the sound produced by this little unit - and it has all the bells and whistles - Bluetooth, Pandora, and lots more. The initial cost is greatly offset if you consider that it includes the (Blu-ray & 3D) DVD player and all the apps that make a 'smart TV' unnecessary. So when I considered the savings of buying a non-smart TV and not having to purchase the DVD unit this unit was essentially FREE. The rear speakers are wired to a wireless amp which eliminated the need to run wires to the back of the room. Sweet. Yes, I love it!

Overall a very good home theater system for the money. It will do just about anything you might want it to do except wash the dishes. The "wireless" speakers are wired to a wireless reception box (which you can locate just about anywhere in the room) so you do have some flexibility but don't expect wireless speakers from the home box.

Was afraid to pop 500.00 for a system in a box but I was pleasantly surprised at the sound it produces. The individual speaker adjustments work well so you can get good sound out of the wireless back speakers with tv and really nice playing music using the correct sound 'mode' offered. My rear speakers are all the way in the kitchen, around 30 feet or so, and I can hear them up by the tv.Giving me a half house system.Very easy to hook up , sound settings seem a bit tough at first but easy once you find the place to go. In the 'settings' toolbox on set up menu. Goes great with my 65" 2016 Sony bravia hdtv. TV heaven. Even with a hillbilly antenna set up.

Waited till now to write a review about this product, just had my daughter's 1st birthday today and all I can say is that this system exceeded all my expectations. I have a bigger Family room and I can feel the vibrations from the speakers all through my house. I'm kinda amazed at some of the negative review about this product as I've had no issues with it from day one. Amazingly the system is smart enough to come on once my TV is turned on (I'm using the Audio RCA cable and after setting it to come on earlier than the default system boot up) Also I can operate the system with my Samsung smart TV bluetooth remote and this has been a bonus for me ever since, the good part is I don't have to pair up the remote. Somehow, all my smart system are in sync, and I'm all the more loving it. Good Job Sony, this is giving you all thumbs up.

Overall a good Home Theater system, easy to setup and configure. However, it has "Hung Up" twice. The first time the unit was stuck in "Setup" mode. I had to power down and unplug the system. Easier said then done when placed in and entertainment center. I had tested all features during setup/configuration and everything worked fine for 1 week. Then it "HungUp" Then second time, about 1 week after the first hang up, I could not open the area to insert a CD/DVD to play. I hope to find a solution so I don't have to move the entertainment center, AGAIN. And finally, the wireless satellite speakers tend to drop out for several seconds at random. Currently looking for a solution to this issue. Over all very frustrating. Very disappointed with Sony on this particular product.

I'm not one to like sound systems, but this one is good. You can mess with how loud or how soft sounding you want each speaker. And you can also switch how the sound will be heard. I really like it. I think it's a very good buy.
