    The height of Van Halen

This ladies and gentlemen is the height of Van Halen. Unlike Diver Down, these songs hang together as a cohesive, yet not monotonous, album. Although keyboards come to fore for several tunes, it wasn't as if their previous albums weren't building up to this. If you get just one Van Halen disc, make it this one.

I was a Freshman in high school when this album was released. Being a band geek became very cool when "Jump" was transcribed to sheet music (fast forward 20+ years and my DAUGHTER'S high school band played this!). You can't help singing along with the hits from this album.

Van Halen goes from Hard Rock to Pop

Simply put: Eddie Van Halen is the greatest guitar player alive today. He creates unique, explosive, manic and swirling sounds which are unmatched by any other musician. On "1984", the finest songs are examples of this. Despite the lame lyrics in "Hot for Teacher", the song remains great because of the virtuoso guitar work. Other highlights include "Top Jimmy", "Drop Dead Legs", "Girl Gone Bad" and "House of Pain".

I had held off buying this CD for 30 years because the songs have been in constant play on the radio since it debuted. Best Buy had it a price that I didn't mind shelling out for finally.

After 30 plus years I finally decided to buy this CD, luckily the local Best Buy had it at the lowest price I could find, now I'm rocking out to Dave, Eddie and the gang!

I didn't think I would listen much to this CD, but I have had it in heavy rotation in my car since I bought it. Love Top Jimmie & Hot for Teacher.

Back in high school I made the transition from Caseys America's top 40 to listening to hard rock and heavy metal. This was my 1st / introduction to Van Halen.

If you don't have the CDs already the new remaster is a good purchase. It isn't leaps and bounds better from the original release on CD but the is a noticeable improvement in the bass. I did notice the audio dropouts mentioned on a forum.

From the start, it's clear that the band has a few tricks up its sleeve. The opening track, "1984," is a wistful synthesizer instrumental that could have come from Pete Townshend or Thomas Dolby. It manages to sound simultaneously streetsmart and glowingly pastoral, and it's the perfect prelude to "Jump," the album's initial single. Like "1984," "Jump" is not exactly the kind of song you'd expect from Van Halen: the main synthesizer figure uses suspended chords and a pedalpoint bass in a manner more suited to Asia. But once Alex Van Halen's drums kick in and singer David Lee Roth starts to unravel a typically convoluted story line, things start sounding a little more familiar; and by the time Eddie Van Halen reinforces the synthesizers with steely bursts of guitar, you know this has got to be Van Halen, even though it's a mainstream pop tune.

1984 was the biggest LP in the career of Van Halen. When "Jump" premiered in late 1983, it quickly became the bands biggest hit ever. The video was all over MTV. They followed that up with "Panama" another classic video. Then came "Hot For Teacher" the 3rd single & most unforgettable video ever... WALDO!! 2 more singles were released to rock radio..."I`ll Wait" and "Drop Dead Legs" 5 singles off one LP!! Van Halen ruled rock radio & MTV in 1984. I know rock fans wonder if its worth it to buy the REMASTERED versions of cds you already own? It is...they sound MUCH better & it usually comes with different inserts or packaging. Should you buy the remastered version? YES!!

This re-master of Van Halen is awesome. The sound quality is superb. I been having 1984 for a long time. But now I have the re-mastered one. I have always hoped they would re-master this cd. I compared it to my old one. Wow, the difference on my stereo is huge. I cant wait to play it in my truck. I compared the two cd's on the same exact volume level, and the old copy sounded like I had turned down the volume and was playing on a cheap stereo. Well spent money for this re-mastered copy.

This release is likely my favorite one from VH, as I'm a Roth guy. The mix is done quite well and has a good balance between instruments, the remaster really helps with these older releases. I wish it had more tracks but the ones here are all hits for the most part, obviously Hot for Teacher is the main here, Drop Dead Legs, I'll Wait, and of course Jump is undeniable. The Hagar years had some decent work but this is where my focus lies.

Found this Van Halen CD for 5.99 at the local Best buy... They took them out of the annoying bend and put them all on a self so you can see them....Loaded it on my Ipod and off and running.
