Released in 2009, this collection is 18 tracks long! Like “American Idiot” it is broken into three “acts” as another punk-rock or alt-rock opera album. It is just about as good as the aforementioned CD (5 stars) and has some great stories! Having been a big fan of The Who and the rock operas “Tommy” and “Quadrophenia”, this is made in the same approach and is worth it. Many have tried this type of album format and flopped, but not here! Very well done (4.7 stars)! Great job, Green Day! Oh heck; 5 stars!

If you're a Green Day fan you will like 20th Century Breakdown. Nothing ground breaking and all very familiar but isn't that what we like about Green Day. East Jesus Nowhere is a great song.

    Good Album

Green Day never fails to amaze me. They are such a great band, and a huge inspiration. This album covers alot of what American Idiot does. It has great music, lyrics, and vocals, but it sounds like a repeat of American Idiot in all aspects. Not to talk them down because I LOVE the album still, I was just hoping for something a little different. I really enjoy older Green Day around the Kerplunk era, and this sounds nothing like it. I actually saw them on their 21st Century Breakdown Tour, and I was so happy to hear them play ALOT more old music than the new. Love the album and I recommend it to anyone who is a TRUE Green Day fan. I know alot of people refuse to listen to new Green Day, but they are still doing great, just in a more mature scene.

    Mind Blowing

I was thinking the new Green Day album would suck, and just a cheap excuse to make money, but Green Day once again not only created another amazing album, but improved over American Idiot. This one most resembles American Idiot if you want to compare it to their other music, but 21st Century Breakdown is much more diverse, with traits from American Idiot, Warning, the 90's era punk style, and plus a newer style that seems much more mind blowing (I would define this new style based on the second song of the album, 21st Century Breakdown). When I listened to the new CD, and I still do and always will, I noticed the structure was similar to American Idiot, but the music just improves over it because Green Day let some of their early styles come back and I think this is why it is a better album. I would also say a few songs almost overwhelm me with amazement, which just improves the experience. Some may like the more solid and straight foreward style of American Idiot more, but really 21st Century Breakdown is an improvement and sets new standards.

Green day has done it again, they have managed to make two jaw dropping albums in a row. This CD is in my opinion is better than american idiot. The reason being is that it has more songs and it is longer. Green days songs are the anthem of a new age. Green day are not afraid to speak their minds for what they believe in. Best songs on the album include 21st century breakdown, viva la gloria, and 21 guns. 21 guns is by far the best song they have ever written, this song really attaches to you. 21 Guns really hits home. Overall this is a very solid follow up to American idiot. i recommend this album to fans and those new to green day. This album is also packed with great chorus lines to sing along to.

I was so pumped to go buy this CD and it really surpassed my expectations. After American Idiot, which was about a 4.5 star, I couldn't see something possibly outdoing it. But I was wrong. 21st Century Breakdown is split up into 3 acts that consist of fast punk songs like Christian's Inferno and Murder City, to slower more alternative songs like Viva La Gloria (both of them) and last night on earth and Restless Heart Syndrome. I've listened to this album 5 times through and it just doesn't seem to get old. It is a top 3 Green Day album of all time.

    One of their best yet...

This is one of my favorite Green Day cds yet. It has all of the big sounds of American Idiot, but also has older Green Day sounds and styles woven thoughout it. The lyrics are wonderful, and each song has a catchy melody. And I think that even if you didn't like American Idiot, you'll like this cd because there are a lot of things you'll recognize as older Green Day. Especially if you're familiar with their cd Warning. And even though it's broken up into 3 'acts' it's not a Rock Opera like American Idiot. They have another hit cd on their hands.

Greenday has become the modern day Beatles

21st Century Breakdown is one step beyond American Idiot which I thought couldn’t be topped. Greenday has become the modern day Beatles of Punk Rock. This album guarantees Greenday a spot in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame and permanent Rock Star legend’s status. As with American Idiot, 21st Century Breakdown will go down in American history as one of the greatest albums of the 21st Century. Take if from me, as a 49 year old man, I have heard a lot of great music in my lifetime and right now Greenday is untouchable. These guys aren’t Punks anymore.

if you like warning and american idiot you'll like it, it has the big sound of American Idiot with the great pop ear of Warning, now the first two acts are great, but personally the third act is a bit weaker, but it is very hard to have a perfect album, but Green Day gets oh so very close. all the songs have huge hooks and fun melodies, and the cool thing is that some "sounds" come back throughout the album, and one more thing it's not really another opera

Songs 1-7 are superb, 7-17 are very good, and then they hit you with #18, which is simply awesome. Billie Joe Armstrong is an immense talent and his vocals reach a certain part of you that just makes you want to listen over and over again. Catchy hooks, riffs, and huge 100% USDA beefy power chords abound. This record simply cannot be played loud enough.

Green Day has a perfect albut. It is heart felt and poetic. I absolutely loved this album. It is different than their older stuff but that's what's great. Green Day shows with this album that you can still make a classic album after 20 years. Their sound has matured and they have gotten more powerful than ever. Long Live Green Day!

The song "know your enemy" is just one reason you should buy this cd. Its the same music and voice of Billie Joe that we all have come to love. I was very excited to hear about the new cd's release and bought it right away and i love it. if you like green day or like just one of their songs, don't hesitate buy this cd.

This is the first time i bought a Green Day album and i think they are still a great band. They will be in the rock n roll Hall of Fame one day. This album has fast and slow songs that are equally great for the ears. On Thursday i am buying more Green Day albums just because this makes me want more.

Most of the songs are just phenomenal. Green day is one of the best, most creative and innovative bands there is. I had American idiot in my cd player for a couple months back when it first came out. This album is just as good if not better.
