    Clear cases are better, but tinted do in a pinch.

    I prefer to buy the clear DVD cases, but, in a pinch, the tinted ones do as well (they are built the same, after all). The main problem with the tinted cases is that it can be harder to read the titles on the DVDs -- especially if you write on the discs with various colors of markers as I do sometimes. Also, the tinted cases never come in packs of just one color. So you can never choose your favorite. If I want color-coding for disc-cases, I can just use colored-paper inserts in the clear cases. That way I only end up with the cases I need; there are no left-over colored cases sitting around. (I'd recommend the tinted Memorex cases if the store were out of clear ones. But buy clear DVD cases first if you can.)
