Great UAV for any skill level

Great UAV or Drone or quadcopter, whatever you want to call them. Flies great and smooth as can be. Do not have the gimbal yet but that will make this just that much better. Having the automatic take off and land function is great because it truly lets anybody be able to fly this drone. My 9 and 6 year old kids love flying the drone. Great fun for the whole family.

    Best UAV/UAS on the market

Works Flawless. I'm an extremely experienced operator, looking at this UAV/UAS through the eyes of a new flyer, it simply amazing, yet has all the features for advanced users and a device that will continue to evolve.

    Quality UAS for unique photography

3dr Solo UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) is a fun, practical device for getting action shots recording rc races, real races and examining things that are difficult to get to. After buying mine I had to update firmware twice which was easy but should have been taken care of before release. This device has more flight modes than my others. I only wish 3dr had thought to make a combo package with the gimbal, without gimbal it is like a toy, with it is comparable to Yuneec, DJI and Blade Chroma in terms of photography.

I charged the batteries and watched the training videos. My experience flying this has been awesome! If you follow the instructions and do what they tell you, you will not have an issue with the Solo! I would buy it again in a heart beat!

Have never flown a drone, but right out of the box, was very easy to figure out and have in the air w/in a short time. Only thing I don't like is the short battery life (20 min), but guessing most of the drones have the same flight time.

    Terrible Warranty Service from 3DR

I had an issue with the drone and it flew away as it lost GPS signal and the controls would not work to control it. Tried to get help from Best Buy since it was still brand new, but they only wanted to defer me back to 3DR. Tried to get warranty help from 3DR, forget it, they are quick to place blame on everything but the drone. I highly recommend you do not buy this product.

I'm a very experienced UAV pilot and I've had the Solo for almost a week now and I've taken it for 13 flights. All flights have been flawless and all smart shots work perfect.

I was about to pass on the Solo and buy a Phantom 3 and If I could of found spare batteries I probably would of bought the P3. After getting my Solo and spare batteries I am so glad I got the Solo. The features a really awesome and work as advertised.

I had been doing research on what drone to purchase based on my needs for almost a year. I am new to flying and bought this mostly for the photography capabilities. I must say that this thing has met or beat all of my expectations. It can really move and it has been very easy to learn to fly. The auto modes make it easy to make a beginner look like a pro. I'm excited to see what the future holds for 3DR and the Solo!

This is my second ever drone. It felt like going from a flip phone to a smartphone. It's fast. I mean really fast! I love all the settings and features, I just need to get the gimbal, which isn't available yet.

08/01/15 first day was a learning curve, the only trouble was near the end of very simple start up with updates and connectivity of Samsung S5 the controller and then Solo. kept getting Magnetic Interference from Solo went to different areas and then got frustrated so waited till morning. took the drone out to a large parking lot devoid of people and vehicles, took the drone out of box put the props on turned Solo on then controller then phone with the solo app, everything was looking great and then, Magnetic Interference, good thing I wasn't at the firing range. then I remember on a website says you have to be far from any metallic object, my truck, picked up Solo and walked until it emitted a beep noise, well, well finally no alert, set her down pushed the fly button and voila it flew!!! this is an amazing device very well made and can take some light crashes, which 3DR did put one each extra blades in the box. you don't need a go pro but looks really cool on the cell phone. Get one you wont regret, it is a little temperamental to get started but have patience and you will be rewarded.

    Released a little early

I pre-ordered my drone with expecting to get it on June 8th. It was a week later. Once I got it I was surprised to find out that there was no built in flight trainer as stated in the ad. It has been postponed till July. I've never flown a quad copter before and didn't want to risk crashing a $1k one. So I'm a little disappointed after buying this and buying a $500 go pro hero black to use with it. I think it was released before its time and once they fix the bugs it will be a great buy

    A great all around drone

This is an epic drone for the price point. Before I dive into this review, I should explicitly point out that 3dr manufacturing went bankrupt and is no longer in the market of making drones. The company still exists, but is only making commercial software. This means that customer service will be virtually non-existent, product updates will no longer be offered, and parts down the road will become increasingly more difficult to find. Retailers are now just trying to liquidate stock and when that's gone there won't be anymore available. With that being said, this is a fantastic little drone with great capabilities. It is my first drone and I couldn't be more pleased with it. Before buying it, I did do a lot of research into the company and the drone - the consumer support base (forums) have a wealth of friendly knowledge. There are a handful of reputable vendors making aftermarket accessories (range extenders, GPS mods, etc...) that will keep Solo airborne for quite a while longer. Also, a third party app called Solex bought the source code for Solo and is continuously updating flight commands and profiles (Solex is available in Google and iOS app stores for $30). I've had a few hours now under my belt flying this drone and I haven't had any issues with GPS acquisition or flyaways. GPS lock usually takes 30-60 seconds or less depending on the terrain. Getting used to flying a drone does come with a learning curve and the Solo controller has an awesome Pause feature that will freeze the drone in its current spot if you feel like its getting away from you or if you mix up your direction (very easy to do in the beginning). It has definitely saved me from hitting more than a few obstacles. The return to home feature has been fairly accurate in my experience and will land within 10 feet of where it took off. As for range I've had it out as far as 2500ft in ideal conditions (no competing Wi-Fi signals, cell phone dead zone, and a clear LOS on the foothills of Mt. Rainier) but do not expect these kinds of numbers in a more urban environment. DJI definitely has a significant advantage when it comes to range. It is however a very nimble and responsive drone and it feels just as comfortable doing slow cinematic shots as it does doing more acrobatic maneuvers. So all in all, this is a great drone for beginners all the way up to more advanced users. There are certainly much better drones out there with much better customer support but they also come with a significant price jump. If you want a solid all around drone at an amazing price (and the lack of manufacture support doesn't scare you off) then definitely give the Solo a shot!

    Great drone for beginner

My 7yo son was able to learn how to fly in 15 minutes. I have crashed a handful of times including the battery dying at 300ft in the air. It bounced in the air when it hit the ground and the feet then dug into the dirt 2 inches. No damage. A friend flew it into the side of a house another time. A DJI Phantom would never endure this kind of abuse and a is likely to break into pieces after 1 crash. I recommend getting 2 addtional battery's, a few ful sets of extra props, the backpack, the polar pro feet, and Alpha antennas for increase range. You can't go wrong.

Drone flies well. Very responsive. 1/4 mi range only but adequate for my needs. Easy to learn controls. MAJOR PROBLEM is the GoPro Silver pics were recorded but camera live view transmitted to iPhone less than 30 % of time. Father's Day failure with kids last straw. 3DR online help was responsive but did not solve problem

I am a first time photography drone owner. Pretty tech savvy. Out of the box and my first flight I was extremely impressed. Very steady, easy to fly and controller is very responsive. I fell in love with it the first time I used it. I bought in to the entire Solo line and bought more batteries, backpack, led lights, antennas. I use my drone with my Gorpro 4 Black and it takes excellent photos and video.

Gathering gps signal can take up to 5 minutes. But that's part of the solo's failsafe. It waits for a solid link from minimum 7 satellites. Super easy to fly, app has sliders that let you control top speed from a baby crawl to a cheetah (higher top speed than any phantom) also upgrade in the form of software updates are being released often and adding new features. Furthermore, third party companies are releasing add ons now too. There's a super bright spot light coming out soon.

Purchased the 3 DR Solo from best buy and I love it. My son has a Phantom 3 and it the Solo is as equal as the Phantom. The only down side of the Solo is the short battery life. So, I bought extra batteries. It's easy to fly and lots of fun. Two bad the company is not making them any more and it might be hard to find spare parts in the future. But the price! 275.00 with the backpack and gimble. Can't beat that.

Don't bother getting the other lower quality build drones, this is the one to get. With all the features and functionalities that are packed in, it is worth the price, especially since it's the only product with GOPRO integration. 3DR is an amazing US company!

this drone was purchased on sale for $299 with extra battery ,gimbal and props . downloaded the app and recalibrated it before flying and it flys great straight out of the box stable in the wind and battery time first flight on windy day with gimbal and camera was 38 minutes or roughly 19 minutes per battery . I was expecting flying it to be much more difficult it has been more like fun and awe .
