A somewhat sophomoric comedy. At times this film can be funny but it is mediocre overall.

This movie just seems sad. The jokes are flat and it really needs to do better here.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin was the start of a strange phenomenon a few years ago that has continued through the films of Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen, and the rest of their group: a series of crude, well-written, frequently male-dominated comedies that carry positive message about friendship and male bonding. I've never seen anything like these films, because they somehow manage to never let convention bog them down, but rather use it to create a whole new level of comedy and human experience, usually related to relationships and how they develop, fall apart, of somehow hover in balance. This film is about Andy Stitzer, a middle-aged electronics store employee who still lives a sort of teenage fantasy life, but is also completely alone. Upon finally reaching out to him, his co-workers learn that he is still a virgin, and thus they make it their mission to change that fact at pretty much any cost. The film really exploits the perils of dating and having forgotten how to survive in the dating world to great effect, but the real asset of the film is its humanity, particularly in the character of Andy, played memorably by Steve Carrel in a star-making role. Andy is an innocent and a good man who has merely forgotten what it is to try to stop being alone. His co-workers, though crude and at times a bit too obsessive about his "condition" really do want to help him, and because of that fact, Andy finds the courage to both develop a strong friendship with them and a romantic connection with a nearby store owner, played by a charming Catherine Keener. I really recommend this film. Be warned that the humor does venture into very risque territory, but beneath its crude exterior lies a heart of gold. And a lot of laughs.

I kept hearing about how good this movie was and read all the reviews and finally I said, "All right all right, I'll check it out!" Let me tell you, the previews didn't do this movie any justice. This movie was so funny that my stomach was in so much pain afterward from all the laughing. This was definitely one of those movies that caught me by surprise at how over the top it was with its humor. Andy has to be the text book example of a true 40 year old virgin and watching him trying to remedy this problem is just way too funny....mainly because of what his co-workers at Smart Tech put him through. If you purchase this movie, you won't be sorry as it's one of those movies you can watch over and over again.

If you have a good sense of humor then this is a great movie for you. It has adult themes so the right audience is required. It is funny to watch a man in his 40s have a very simple life of collecting action figures and even funnier seeing him act like a teenager when he becomes interested in a woman his age. Seeing an inexperienced man taking advice from a bunch of guys that don't have their lives together is hilarious and it only gets better when Steve Carrell tries to work on a relationship with a mother of two. Great buy and fun to watch over and over.

There's no way I can be sad/depressed watching this movie. Steve does a phenomenal job as the 40-year old virgin. From his job at the stereo store to his visit to the local Planned Parenthood to his infamous waxing scene (which was really done), his reactions and commentary are dead on and make for a movie that provides laugh after laugh, while still telling a relatively "cute" story. Perfect for a date movie...boys and girls alike will like it.

This movie is just plain funny the whole way through. I honestly can't find any faults in it besides that it obviously isn't a movie for the whole family. However, those that can watch it will have a ball. I highly recommend picking this one up. There are tons of special features and the picture and audio quality are decent for Blu-ray. You will not be disappointed.

This is one of the funniest movies I have seen. Steve Carell does a great job in the main role. The supporting cast (his friends/coworkers) are hilarious too. I have seen this movie many times and I still laugh every time I watch it. I highly recommend this movie to everyone except young children, as there is nudity and crude humor.

This is a good mainstream comedy. While it does not live up to Apatow's television work, it does have a heart of its own. The comedy does seem to be placed in the beginning so that it can then be more dramatic at the end, but what comedy doesn't do that anymore? Overall, this film certainly seems like it's worth owning because it is a good movie to watch when you just don't feel like thinking.

Was hilarious, ive watched this 50 times atlest over and over and i still die out laffing although i wouldnt let anyone under 18 see this movie theres nasty language and some crude scenes!

This is one of the funniest movies I've seen in years. Every cast member in this movie is hilarious, some even more funnier than its star (Steve Carell). There wasn't a dull moment and I LMAO through the entire thing. That's the sign of a great comedy! You will definitely love this movie!

This movie has a cute concept but the scenes in it are HILARIOUS! Steve Carell and the "man-o-lantern" scene is spectacular! And the extras of that scene are just as funny! This is a great comedy about dating and a guy who is just a BIT on the nerdy side! A must see if you like weird humor!

This movie is a riot. You will be laughing all through the movie. You will find yourself watching it over and over. It is worth the purchase especially at this price! The actors are all extremely funny especially Steve Carell

This movie starts off with a hilarious concept and then delivers a lot of "funny" throughout. Steve is such a great comedian and I highly recommend buying this movie at this price. If you've liked Steve in his other movies you will love this one too! I say buy this for 6.99.

This was one of the funniest moves that Stave Correl ever plaid in. The whole movie is gut busting. Not exactly a movie for kids but still funny all together. GET THIS FILM IT'S SO FUNNY!!!!!!!!!

Movie is hilarious, but this so-called "unedited version has been edited. It is missing one of funniest scenes ever - the one between the 2 men arguing over getting free extended warranty.

I did really enjoy this movie, unfortunately after seeing Steve Carrell in one of the best shows ever 'The Office' I don't find him as funny without playing the role he did in that, but this movie itself was really good.

what can i say you laugh till you drop for those that have seen it they know what im talking about and for those who havent seen it pick this one up because this is a classic film

If you just want a laugh out loud, cheeks hurt due to laughter kind of movie than this is it. It is a non stop riot of laughter and fun. A great movie to watch with every one.
