I like it. It is very similar to the Acer Chromebook 15 I had previously. I especially like the fact that the keyboard has lighted characters, so that if I need to use the Computer while my wife is sleeping with the light not on, the keyboard characters are all lit up. Also, because my new Computer is a mirror of my old one, the installer was able to do a 1:1 copy of my old gmail and google.doc Files, so I did not lose any information from my old Computer. The whole install was pretty slick. I guess that's about it.

I bought this for my son to do virtual tutoring. I was excited about the price I paid since I caught it on sale. Now we've had the chromebook for 6 months and it no longer charges. It is stuck on 1%. I've done several steps to troubleshoot the issue but nothing worked. I finally called Acer since the laptop is still under warranty. They originally wanted me to Pay to ship the product to them to repair it!! This seems ludacris to me. Why would I the consumer have to pay to ship a product that broke within 6 months back to be repaired. I finally got someone at Acer to agree to send me a shipping label but that took 4 phone calls and I still don't have the label. I'm hoping once I get through this repair process that It works correctly. I will NEVER buy an Acer product again.

I was looking for a cheap Chromebook in the $150-250 range. I needed something for simple work tasks - checking email, internet research, taking notes, etc. A touchscreen definitely was not needed. But then I saw this in-store and could not get over the HD tablet-like display. The resolution alone is worth the price and the upgrade. So much easier on the eyes than a dull, standard laptop. It's like an iPad with a keyboard attached, more powerful, a better OS, and at a price that makes it a great value. This is my first Acer product, and am very impressed so far. Battery life is good. Very pleased and would recommend to family and friends.

My New Chromebook Purchase With BestBuy

After doing some careful research I selected the Acer Chromebook Spin 514 to replace the Toshiba Chromebook I've been using for 6 years. Auto-updates on the Toshiba will stop in September 2021 so I needed to replace it, and updates on the Acer will continue till 2028.
I have not used the Acer much yet as I'm using my familiar Toshiba for as long as I can. The Acer touchscreen is a nice upgrade feature that I'm sure to enjoy in the coming years.
BestBuy got the new Chromebook to me in less than 24 hours - very fast.

I have been buying Chromebooks since there finally was a model for $250 -- very basic. This Acer is by far the best Chromebook available, especially at this extremely valued price and worth twice the cost. The touchscreen is very responsive and bright enough for indoor use, the keys are easy to use (and I press rather hard), having two USB ports works for me to use a mouse and flash drive, and the 2-n-1 feature is something useful at times. A minor complaint is opening the laptop -- very sturdy hinges, which is appreciated. My major disappointment is that my HP Envy printer is recognized but will not print. It printer works with all my other laptops, desktops, and my iPad. Hopefully I will find an online answer to get it to print. The laptop feels a little heavy, but that is expected with a 14" IPS screen and its wonderful features.
Since I will not be doing any databases, spreadsheets, or other intensive tasks, this Chromebook is great for streaming music and movies, playing my imported MP3 music, do basic photo editing, emails, and web searches. I have read reviews of the battery lasting 10-12 hours, and so far that is what I am experiencing.

Well, I didn't buy this for my own use, but I bought two of these. They both perform great. Have lots of extra's like touch screen, backlighted keyboard, and can be used like a tablet. The aluminum shell is nice.I'm gifting these to my daughter and granddaughter to replace Chromebooks I gifted them for Christmas that were only 32bit, and couldn't connect to their wireless printer.

After several years of faithful service, I was notified that the software my Chromebook used would no longer be supported. Dang! So, I started looking at Best Buy because of their service and wide selection. After talking to the Best Buy Sales Associate I was shown the Acer Spin 514 and loved it. The price was right, it's fast, looks great, and meets all my needs (and more).

This notebook is a LEAP for Acer's quality - Particularly on their ChromeOS portfolio.
Design:
The book is heavy, and feels thicker than it should for its size. There was a lot of attention given to heft and the feeling of premium, but the device has almost TOO MANY chamfered edges and almost a fragility introduced from having sharp edges and lots of brushed/polished surfaces. Maybe I just prefer the rounded look and feel of notebooks like the Pixelbook Go or other Chromebooks with a "softer" feel. I didn't get the feeling from this device that I could take it anywhere and use it comfortably, as those sharp edges and shiny parts looked like they'd take nicks and scratches easily, and no one is going to make a snap case for a niche Acer product.
Keyboard/Typing:
The keyboard on this is the FIRST Acer that felt like a premium device - This is AS GOOD or BETTER than my Dell or Apple keyboards on much more expensive enterprise devices. It also rivals premium typing experiences on Dell's XPS line or HP's Spectre series. The SLIGHTLY indented keys and excellent/even travel are the stadards for everyone else. This is the FIRST Acer device that didn't have a flexy cheap keyboard that I've experienced - This is even better than their gaming laptop keyboards!
Performance:
The Ryzen 3 in this device is hard to fully evaluate - I think for MOST ChromeOS use cases it will be perfect. I did find that in running certain Linux apps in VM Containers the graphics performance was mixed compared to Intel-based laptops, which could either be shortcomings in Linux to support Ryzen, or in net lower performance compared to 10th/11th gen Intel kit. Since this is a MINOR use case example, I didn't take any points off for this. Android apps and Chrome web-based experiences were smooth and fluid, so this platform is perfect for most users and use cases.
Battery:
Battery life was good, but not any different than I get from my other ChromeOS devices, so I dont think the Ryzen platform has derived significant benefit.
Screen/Display:
The 1080p display on this device is an EXCELLENT IPS panel, with good color (not calibrated for a specific color space, but looks great with apps and online). Contrast and brightness are similar to other premium business laptops, but aren't super-premium ultra contrast or ultra-bright displays featured on some flagships. This is expected considering this isn't a specialty or ultra-premium offering. The other concern is the MASSIVE lower bezel, where most other midrange and premium manufacturers have moved to 16:10 or 3:2 ratio displays that escew this design trend, Acer seems to EMBRACE it in the name of keeping a 16:9 aspect display employed (I'm sure to keep costs down) but there isn't even a logo or any information on the bezel - Just a distracting dark VOID - And an opportunity to brand or emblazen the device with some style. Just looking at it from a distance, the top and side bezels look quite modern, while the bottom takes the design language back a few years. It makes the entire laptop look like a design from 2016-era...
Overall:
Acers first attempt at premium materials and business-grade specs is an admirable one - Their design language just isn't compatible with it (big bulky vents and excessive chamfered shoulders are out-of-style)- If they can solve some of the aesthetics and come up with a Chrome-first design language, this offering will only get better. As it stands, if you like the way it looks, Its a FANTASTIC offering from them that should serve a broad range of users well at the right price point if the value is there!

This has been an excellent performer, plus ported for USBs and Micro SD cards so I can upload files to Dropbox, making standard laptops even more obsolete. Supposedly tougher than the average Chromebook, with the Gorilla Glass touch screen. I take this thing everywhere, so we shall see.

Honestly, I've never been too impressed with many of the Chromebook laptops for my high power, multi-tasking career choice. Most of the ones I have tested were OK for day in to day out work tasks but are not cut out for heavy lifting of the professional CAD, Graphics, Drawing, Photography, or major Project associated software. This device and available applications are definitely a step in the right direction.
Acer seems to have updated the design and features to improve its mobility, added a bright 2,256x1,504-pixel screen resolution and an awesome touchscreen. The 3:2 screen ratio gives you much more vertical space and is roughly the size of a sheet of paper, plus is super lightweight in comparison to the other Chromebook and non-Chromebook competitors thus it is perfect for all of lightweight work efforts like note taking, sketching, doing homework, side bar tasks, watching movies, checking email, video calls and pretty much anything that you could do using a base tablet or one of the larger cellphones.
For me one of the major plus’s is the hinge screen design, although similar to what you'd expect to find on most of the other two-in-ones Acer designed these to slightly lift the rear when you're using it as a laptop and enables it to be angled in any position to use the tablet mode. Thus removes a need to buy an extra laptop backend wedge lift or a tablet stand. In the short period of time I have had this device, I have not noticed any quirks with the design.
This device has two USB-A and two USB-C Thunderbolt3 ports both can be used for charging. There is also a microSD card slot which I have used to transfer data from another device to this one, this laptop has more connections than most of the other devices I was considering.
The rest of this device is what you'd expect to find on a premium two-in-one. The speakers are at the rear of the laptop and can be heard regardless of the positioning. Sound is excellent.
The webcam and mics are good considering this is a budget minded device. I would have to say I have not found an off/on button for either the microphone or camera without digging into the settings. This device will have you covered for office tasks, school work, basic photo efforts and video editing, so some light content creation isn't out of the question with the integrated graphics.
As for battery life seems to be solid and is on par with Acer’s marketed specs. I can say I had no problem writing a couple papers, checking email, web browsing, watching a few movies through my service provider and streaming music for a full day and into the evening and still had an estimated 20% remaining on the battery when I shut down for the day.
Although my Chromebook device processor and RAM choices was not wise for what I really need to do work wise. I would recommend, buying the Ryzen7 processor rather than the Ryzen3 and select the higher RAM option rather than the base option. I have ran some heavy tasks and had to wait for the device to catch up. Although this device doesn’t exactly meet all my professional needs it more than meets my after work needs and would be a great student or after work extra device. Although there's still some room for improvement in certain areas e.g. processor speeds I have not truly found any real deal breakers for students or casual laptop users. Acer has almost won me over to the Chromebook with this device purchase and I love the design of the Acer Spin 2 in1. I do recommend this device for casual users and/or students. I would not recommend this specific device for professionals that need to run the heavy lift professional applications daily that require major multitasking and/or significant processor speeds.

I was looking for a Chromebook with backlit keyboard, and decent storage, this fit the bill. As an aging baby boomer, my eyes aren't as good as they were in the past, this keyboard makes my life easier. It is quick and nimble. I have it connected to Ethernet at home, and use it as my main tool after Windoze came out with 11, and has too many issues with Windoze. From here on out it is Chromebooks for me.

love it, but it is slow though. it's been a month now since I bought it and I've noticed it has gotten faster or maybe I've gotten used to it. I recommend this laptop if you're looking for something to do work on. It's not super fast so just keep that in mind but I do love the light-up keyboard, and the touchscreen and that I can fold it and use a stylus pen to write with since it is touch screen :D

This laptop I had my regrets buying while waiting for it to be shipped but I had limited options financially. I bought this chromebook while it was on sale for $299. Can't beat that but as soon as I received it setup was really simple and after about 10 minutes I was right to work using it for very basic simple tasks like filing out forms online. the response time for loading websites is fairly quick and youtube loads fairly quick as well. This laptop may not be for everyone as its just intended for light & basic usage speaker volume is fair may sound a little low but none the less sound is clear. This laptop if being used for making pdf files or viewing as well as using it for basic office duties, emails, and so forth you will be just fine as well as using this for school it will do just fine. I have been more of a windows user and this is my 1st chromebook and so far I am really impressed and most importantly im happy with this laptop.
