I got this to replace my old and ailing apple notebook. I love this Chromebook! Zippy, lots of storage, great graphics and screen that pivots to create a notepad. The only negative are the pesty constant built in --NORTON-- that I don't want but am constantly bombarded w reminders. What a nuisance!

As a 5th Chromebook user, I can confidently say that the Acer Chromebook Spin 714 is a gem! The combination of a 2-in-1 touchscreen, Intel Evo Core i5, and 256GB SSD makes it a powerhouse. Whether for work, play, or both, this Chromebook delivers.

I pretty much hate this Chromebook

I pretty much hate this Chromebook. I have had it since the beginning of December 2022. The first one I returned because the battery drained so much more quickly than my last Chromebook. The new one did the same, so I figured that was just the way it was going to be. Every few days it will decide not to wake up when I open it, so I have to do a hard shutdown and startup. Once a week or more, it will sit closed but get extremely hot, which I assume is dangerous. I also have to do a hard shutdown for that. I thought I would spend a little more money on my latest Chromebook and then I would get a nicer machine, but this is the worst Chromebook I have ever owned. There is a lot of glare on the screen. And I find it to be a bit heavy and bulky for what is supposed to be one of the newest machines. I was excited to have the speakers on top, but the sound is not good, nor is it very loud. Speed time is good. I usually have a lot of tabs open and it does pretty well, but does slow down when it really gets busy, which is typical for most Chromebooks. I rarely use the touchscreen, but it is responsive when I have. I find the computer too big and heavy to use in tablet form. The keyboard is very nice. It feels good and the backlight actually works.

I was looking for Chromebook replacement for traveling that had the speed and features I needed for my job and could still be used as an entertainment device. Acer checked off the majority of my needs with the Chromebook Spin 714. Compared to my previous Asus C536 (a very solid unit), the Spin 714 is better in just about every area, especially weight and performance. I struggled with the C536 on the road due to the weight (over 4lbs) and the Spin 714 was joy to carry (3lbs) this past week. Plus the performance and screen quality difference is an added bonus. While I will not say it is a true speed demon, the Spin 714 is extremely responsive and dare I say fast, especially in Google Docs, Google Keep, Canva, Polarr, Sketchpad, Clipchamp, Squoosh, Kami, iA Writer, Evernote and especially Squid. I've also tried Adobe Express and MS Office online without issue, as far as the hardware is concerned. And after work, the unit has doubled as my entertainment device on this trip. The screen clarity and very good color/tone accuracy plus the 1920x1200 resolution is a great choice for everything from Netflix/Apple TV to Pocket Casts to ReadEra. VLC also works very well on this unit. The stylus and touchscreen have worked well with everything I have tried so far. Plus, I loaded Steam and played a few casual games without issue. Spotify is my choice for music and while the speakers are decent with clear audio and nice volume, I typically use my Airpod Pros for listening (and for Netflix/Apple TV). I have not had any issues with the BT connection over a couple of hours of streaming. The webcam is really good as it has a 1080p camera that has been a god send in meetings along with the dual-mics as everyone hears and sees me clearly now. That might not be a good thing. :) Compared to my previous Chromebook, this is like going from HD to 4K in some ways. I've only used Google Meet so I have no idea how well it works in Zoom. The port selection including HDMI out, a 3.5mm Audio Jack, Type A/C USB 3.2 /Thunderbolt 4 is excellent and another big upgrade for me. And the last of the good stuff, the unit has WiFi 6 and BT 5.2, both of which have worked extremely well over the course of the day and in the evenings. I have thoroughly enjoyed the unit this past week, especially since I traveled four days and put it through the paces right after unboxing it. The chassis is fairly rigid and the hinge design has stopped any screen creep from occurring so far. I read about the other issues here regarding the audio pops, screen clarity and trackpad quality. I have not experienced any of it so far, at as described. About the audio, it is solid for a unit at this price range, but like most two speaker designs, it will not blow you away. I did not have any noticeable pops or crackles in all the programs I tried including YouTube and especially during meetings playing back sample videos. The display is very clear and has really good color accuracy. While at times I might have wished for the 2560x1600 option, I never missed it. And finally, my one gripe is about the trackpad. I did not experience any issues with it that kept me from doing my job, but I do wish the tracking response was a little better. Clicks and finger recognition were solid, just tracking speed could be a little faster. Overall, I am happy with this unit and glad I purchased it.

It was a bargain on sale, but not sure I love it. When it's in full flip mode the cover there is a bit of space between the screen and the flipped over keyboard. I use the device in this mode to read ebooks and find it kind of annoying that it does not sit flush. There have also been a couple of random reboots. The garaged pen is really handy. The hardware feels really sturdy, but definitely not a super modern look. All in all a good utilitarian device but nothing to get excited about.

To start, I am not a very techie person I needed a new laptop because my previous acer chromebook would no longer update. I am so pleased with my purchase. I love the backlit keyboard. The picture and sound have been great for streaming shows, I am subletting a place without a tv. The screen size is all that I need. It also stays charged for hours. The only cons for me, are that when on my lap, the edges are sharp. I would have liked a bit of contouring to not dig into my legs. I wanted an extremely lightweight device like my previous laptop, this weighs a bit more. Overall though, I am extremely happy with my purchas and expect this device to last many years.

Acer Chromebook Spin 714 is Tops in the Classroom

PRELIMINARY OBSERVATIONS: The Acer Chromebook Spin 714 Laptop is the best tool I have discovered for use in the classroom. The 14.0" diagonal screen offers the perfect size / weight combination. The 2-in-1 Touchscreen enables quick response - something absolutely essential to keep you fully interactive in the classroom. The Intel Evo Core i5 includes 8GB RAM & an ultrafast 256GB SSD with no moving parts to break. The color is Slate Blue: it is beautiful & does not distract. DETAILED OBSERVATIONS: The stylus is not only included, it is literally built into the lower laptop frame where it stays charged. Simply remove it gently with a fingernail & it is immediately ready to write & draw on the screen. The stylus is so well hidden, I thought it was accidentally omitted from the box & Googled it, only to discover where it resides. The most fantastic benefits for classroom use are the super fast boot up time (almost instantaneous) & the easy to use Chrome Operating System by Google. Simply go to the Google Store to load apps. There is no learning curve to set it up, or to operate it. When relaxing at night, this laptop is an entertainment machine! I loaded Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube & other websites. Load the passwords one time, then simply choose your preferred source of entertainment with one click. You are connected within a few seconds. CONCLUSION: The Acer Chromebook Spin 714 Laptop is an ideal aid for the classroom. It is also a pure fun, entertainment center. I HIGHLY Recommend it!

Speaker and Trackpad Issues Spoil a Great Device

The good: This device gets a lot right and I was really looking forward to using it as my daily driver laptop. I prefer this screen ratio to the 713 and the size is great. After using it for 2 weeks or so, I had no gripes about multitasking or running multiple apps and the Chromebook ecosystem has been great for my needs. 1080p webcam, integrated stylus and battery life have all been great. The Bad: However, I am now on my second unit with the random speaker crackling and touchpad issues. The speaker crackling is completely random, sometimes when adjusting volume, but mostly just when audio is playing. Its happening 3-4 times per minute and sounds like an audible pop or crack, almost like a car speaker clipping. The trackpad issues that I've had have included it not responding to touch to click roughly 30% of the time and the trackpad feeling "loose" when you tap it. Also, was really hoping for the option to upgrade to a higher resolution screen than 1080p but it seems that is reserved for the enterprise model only. I may try a third unit and hope that its primarily an early production run issue, but I have my doubts. Acer, if you want to contact me or want me to contact you, actually have someone with knowledge of these issues respond!

Likes: Screen quality, processing and graphics speed, capacity and interfaces (touchscreen, active stylus, mouse, touchpad or keyboard), battery life, Chrome OS and value. Dislike: None. Confirmation of ease off use: My sister-in-law's 5ish year old Dell Chromebook broke (dropped and then informed motherboard was fried).. I recommended this one since mine worked so well, she got it this weekend and keeps on texting me about different aspects she loves. We are both cranky Medicare eligible oldsters so our delight is well-earned.

Love Chromebooks. I did a lot of research. This model will be supported by Google until 2030. This is the longest support I could find. Some only have 2+ years of support left. This model provides WiFi while some only provide blue tooth. The screen has finger touch, it bends so you can watch movies. The keys light up so you can see them well in the dark. The key board is large making it easier to type. It comes with a mouse although I have not used it. Battery life is long. I love this computer and this is my 2nd Acer. All of the data from my 1st Acer transferred seamlessly. Set up took a couple of minutes and unbelievably easy.

I love this little laptop. My old Chromebook would freeze up if I had too many tabs open. I can open as many tabs as I want now. I have no problem pairing with my phone so I can type text messages. The speaker could be better but at least I can hear it. I have a jbl speaker to pair it to. The battery seems to last a long time and I occasionally use the pen when I want to do certain things. It has the power to do the things I want to do and It never gets hot. I really enjoy it.

I was so looking forward to this model! I had the 2021 Acer Chromebook Spin 713 and thought that this 714 model would take everything that was stellar about it's predecessor to the next level! However... This was not the case :( Let me start off by saying that the device itself is very attractive to look at. Nice screen ratio, nice build quality, garaged stylus, I/o on each side, and a great color. That was fine. What wasn't fine is the noticeable downgrade in screen resolution from the 2k display of the 713 to this Full HD display of this 714. Also, this model has an upward Firing Speaker Grill that delivers some decent quality sound. However, there is random crackling noises even at lower volumes. Which is very concerning. There was another review that stated this but, I thought that they could've had a defective unit. Turns out, mine was the same. The trackpad is a good size. It's just a little slow as opposed to what I was used to. The biggest thing that bothered me however, was the performance. This computer comes shipped with a 12th Gen Intel Core i5 processor. So it's supposed to be BLAZING fast. Which, it is! But, I ran into a few issues with the display freezing and also opening other apps after I had closed them. It also randomly went into tablet mode without me flipping the computer around to activate it. This would deactivate the mouse so that I had to touch the screen. Also, with Chrome OS devices you can swipe up on the trackpad with 3 fingers to show all of the windows that you currently have open. This is usually a smooth transition. Not on this computer. Once you perform this gesture, you'll notice some major pixelation on some of the windows for a second before going away. This NEVER was the case on the Spin 713. I thought I could justify all of these issues with telling myself that I could wait for an update to fix i. However, I realized that the only reason I got the computer in the first place is because I thought that it would give me the same great performance I was used to. There was never anything wrong with the spin 713. So, I returned it and ordered another Acer Chromebook Spin 713 2021 model with the 11th Gen Core i5. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this Acer Chromebook Spin 714 unless somehow they can fix these issues.

The first time I purchased this Chromebook I received a faulty computer, the speaker had a crackling sound. I went back and exchanged it and this time the Chromebook is working great. I love that it has the backlight and the Chromebook is light weight. It has so many features my last computer doesn’t have and I’m loving it. It’s also a great computer for college. Buy it!

I did a fair amount of research before deciding upon this make and model and despite the reports that this was a good model I would have to say the operating system can be prone to glitches esp. during transition from laptop to touchscreen only. The display often will freeze at a distorted screen angle. I find the touch screen either overly sensitive to touch and then swings to opposite. Using the pen helps but using finger can be frustrating at time. The keyboard surface is not rigid enough and if you should lift unit holding onto a single corner and sometimes when u lift unit holding both outer corners the pen menu screen pops up even though the pen has not been removed. The keyboard is so weak that if the unit is on soft surface, say a pillow on your lap that if u rest ur right wrist on the right outer corner the popup pen menu displays and prevents u from using the keyboard. The positives are screen quality is really good, the processor is fast. The SSD seems good as well and battery life good.

Very nice chromebook with some drawbacks. The speakers a good upgrade over the trash that they put on the 713. But they still aren't great. They are what you would expect from laptop speakers. Drawback - the speaker pop/crackles constantly (and is why it's getting returned) The frame doesn't seem to be aligned in several areas which I find unacceptable for a device at this price point. Your fingers catch the edges constantly. I will be trying out the 516 GE despite it's lack of touchscreen. Battery life is absolutely fantastic, easily getting close to 10 hours constantly regardless of what i am doing (I use this mostly for casting sports) or with 12+ tabs playing video and sound there is ZERO delay or hesitation with any aspect of this. It is as smooth as butter. The trackpad has a little play where the screen 'slides' once you release, but it's minimal and not too distracting once you've used it for a bit. I would recommend this chromebook once it hits $400 or so. For $500+ I just expect a LITTLE bit more well rounded quality on the little things. But it is a very solid device and if you can live with the minor drawbacks then you will be extremely happy with it.

This is my third Chromebook, and the first one with a lot of bells and whistles. I really like the two-in-one feature where I can use it leisurely as a tablet that props itself up or as a laptop if I need to do some serious writing. It has plenty of power and speed for whatever I want to do and a big screen without an unreasonable amount of weight. One of the features is a stylus that I haven't used, so I don't know how well it works. One thing that bothers me is only one USB port. If you use a wireless mouse, you are out of luck if you want to pull something from a USB or upload data to one. The display is beautiful and the speed is good with no delay on the your side of the device. If it's on the other side, there's not much you can do about it. I like the Chromebook's security and ease of use. It might not do so well for someone who needs a complicated program. It might work, but I won't need that. All in all, this is a great device that I would buy again.

Very useful and fast laptop. This is my first Chromebook so it took a while to get used to but once I got used to it, I really like it. The keyboard is enjoyable the use and the device is blazing fast. I have an android eco system so I can just pick up texts and videos from my phone or TV to this Chromebook. All apps are fast and the display is gorgeous. The only thing I don't like is that it is heavy so it limits the mobility aspect if you want to use as a tablet more than laptop. Overall a great device with lots of capabilities and speed if you get it at a discount price

The screen size and ratio is great, it has some decent power when it comes to running Linux containers, the typing experience is pretty solid. However: The touch pad has issues, on wake it's very finicky where it will move the mouse in a stair step like fashion, when two finger scrolling and then lifting up, a web page will scroll slightly more instead of staying in place like every other laptop, almost as if it's still taking inertia scroll into account even though you pause before lifting fingers. There are also moments where you have to tap 2-3 times to get a click to register. There's a very annoying audio pop that happens fairly frequently, such as when loading a page with videos attached, opening the play store then clicking on a button, starting the Linux terminal, things that have no audio associated to it, still cause this pop, this is with the laptop fully muted as well. Those two issues are bad enough to bring this laptop that i'd consider 4, maybe 5, star down to two stars.
