This unit replaced a failing Chromebook that I used for years. This one is fast with an excellent display. Trackpad is a little flakey and that is the only drawback.

My brother wanted to try a Chromebook so I loaned him my Spin 713. In the meantime I purchased the 714. I was worried that I would not like some of the changes. Not so! Some of the early 714 review comments were about the lower screen resolution. As it turns out Acer got it right. Side-by-side there is no practical difference in screens of this size. True, if you are a gamer, with the 713 cranked up to it's top resolution AND an external monitor, you will probably notice a difference. That's overkill and not the way us older business types use our Chromebooks. The 714 screen is beautiful, sharp and plenty bright. I have not found the lack of an SD card port a problem. I find the 256 SSD plenty big for all my research and instructional videos. If you really need more room, just plug in Samsung's T7 2TB mini external drive. Regarding the other features: The stylus addition is truly a practical tool when in tablet mode. I love it! Upward firing speakers and that camera shutter are welcome additions. By the way, my brother never returned the 713. He sent me a check instead. Two happy campers!

I didn't know how much I was going to use this laptop. I originally bought this as a laptop that was going to be a bare bones device to travel with. However, since it is a Chromebook and already part of the Google ecosystem, I use this ALL THE TIME.

    Very good Chromebook but...

I purchased and returned this Chromebook a few days later. The screen is gorgeous and the specs give it great performance (probably more than is necessary for a general purpose Chromebook). The keyboard is very good, coming close to the very good keyboard Google used for their original Pixelbook. Track that is fine and the speakers, when working, are okay (pretty much middling quality lacking base, just what you would expect from a Chromebook). And the webcam was fine too. There are, however, two significant problems. First, affecting every unit, is that the battery life is very underwhelming. At about 80% brightness and running not very many intensive applications, you can expect 4.5 to a little over 5 hours of use. On a Chromebook in the year 2023 costing over $700, that's not acceptable for some of us (not an issue if everywhere you use this laptop you are near a plug). The other issue, and I don't know how common this is but Reddit is full of complaints about it and I experienced it as well: the speakers crack and pop and chirp randomly. Doesn't matter if you're playing a video or listening to music. The only thing you have open is Google Docs, the speakers will randomly pop with static. This is been a known issue since the laptop released. It has not been fixed after multiple new Chrome OS updates. Given these issues, would I recommend you buy this for the regular price of over $700? No. If you think you can live with short battery life and the likelihood that the unit you buy will have the speaker issue, go ahead and get it if you see it on sale for closer to $500.

I love it! It starts right up when I open it, it is fast, I can multitask with many folders open, I love the size and the weight, and it packs well in a carry on. I don't use the "spin", but it's nice to know that I can. I love Chromebooks. Thanks, Best Buy!

Everything about this Chromebook is top of the line. It's fast, has all of the features anyone could want, and is delightful to use. The screen is bright and clear. The keyboard is lighted and responsive. I also have a Google Pixel phone which links seamlessly with the Chromebook and is very convenient. Highly recommended!

I love this machine. I was skeptical about Chromebooks, but this beat my expectations. There are some occasional audio blurps, but overall great unit. I didn't expect to be able to geek out with the Linux environment. Very cool. I appreciate the onboard stylus and the optical mouse.

Big sad miss for Acer on this Chromebook

I have had many Chromebooks which I have done reviews and videos on many of them including Acer 713 models. This is unfortatly a big miss. I got mine firstly at $599 and then price matched to $499 and now I see it for $479 which to me means on this new device they can't give it away. For a Chromebook that on oaoer has everything you would want. A great screen, great keyboard, good enough trackpad, top firing speakers, thunderbolt 4 inputs, HDMI out and the list goes on including Intel i5, 256 eVMNE SSD. Sadly this device has been plagued with issues from bluetooth, and crackly speakers that buzz which is a carry over from the 713's of 2021. My 714 keybaord & trackpad just simply stopped working. Have no idea what happened forcing me to return it. I would have to recommend the 513 or get a 2020 version at this point until Acer can get the 714 series back to being reliable.

Great: Fast (10/10). Decent screen (8/10). Great keyboard (10/10). Built-in stylus (9/10) AWFUL: Loose trackpad. Horrible speaker crackle, both when in use and at random moments (a brief but audible pop). If an update is able to fix this speaker issue, I'll be only too happy to amend this review. Very disappointed about the trackpad issue as well, though. How is quality control allowing this in 2022?

I replaced my troubled Acer Spin 713 for this 714. Doing my due research, the 714 seemed like a wise replacement. Upon receiving it, I was a bit disappointed to learn that the price I paid wasn't a sale price, but rather a basic price for a stripped down version minus a Kensington Lock and a fingerprint scanner. Items that I wanted. This wasn't made clear by the salesperson at time of purchase. Perhaps I confused it with an Enterprise version (?). Beyond that however, the 714 is a very capable Chromebook with most of the features I wanted. These are not at all disappointing.

I was looking to upgrade from my old Chromebook, and there were a number of choices. I purchased this one, and after playing with it for nearly two weeks, I have to say that I made the right choice. It has everything that I was looking for, and more. It has the speed, and the most current technology. The touch screen is great, and the video display is beautiful. It has more storage space than I know what to do with.

    Best Chromebook I've Owned

I've been using Chromebooks for at least 5 years now, and I didn't expect to like this Chromebook as much as I do. The keyboard is nice and I really like the 16:10 aspect ratio. If you can catch this on sale, you won't be disappointed. Plenty of power to do what you want. I've set it up in developer mode so I have a Linux terminal and have installed Visual Studio Code. The virtual spins up really fast. I did this setup on my previous Chromebook that was an i3 8th gen and that it was noticeable how long it took for the terminal to come up. I understand the improvements and core differences, but I spent the same amount of money in the past for that machine as this one on sale.

So far so good! I love the touch screen and keyboard combo. I am still getting used to the touchpad as the "left click" is not intuitive. The garaged stylus works great as well as the included mouse. Battery life is good. I do wish the screen hinges were a bit sturdier as there is some wobble when using the touch screen while in laptop mode. Setup was a breeze with no issues.

It's nice and quick with a good display, no complaints about the internals at all. My only, small, complaint is with the way the hinge works. Due to the design and placement of the hinge the bottom corner of the screen is the lowest part of the device. When using it while having it placed on bare legs that corner starts to feel a bit sharp after a while, and you (I) end up having to move it periodically so that it can start digging in at a new spot.
