Great Tablet with a Great Price

The Iconia One 10 tablet has a good battery life, nice and clear screens. It is simplistic and attractive in its design. It has 1GB RAM with 32 GB flash memory. A microSD card slot is located on the top of the tablet.
As soon as I hit the “ON” button, I received a message indicating “System memory low”, and is the only reason why I gave these four stars. This “memory low” does not slow down the tablet; it can just be annoying.
It is best used as an entertainment-focused tablet. Great for watching movies and games. It is about the size of my iPad air 2, but less expensive. The volume buttons are on the top left side. If you want great sound from this tablet, it is best to use headphones or a Bluetooth speaker.
It feels a bit clumsy while in portrait mode, but I need to familiarize myself with the tablet. If you have had a tablet before, give yourself some time to get accustomed with its functions and processing. I know there is nothing like picking up your trusted tablet and going to town because you are used to it. Once you get familiar with the Iconia One 10 tablet, you will really like it.
I think using landscape mode will be your best bet.
In summary, this is a great tablet with a great price.

I wanted a reader tablet. I was looking at my options and found this Acer - Iconia One. Not only is it good as a book reader, I use it to surf the net and watch YouTube. I know it's a lower cost tablet, that said, what a great value!

The Acer Iconia One 10.1-inch tablet is a fine "budget" tablet from a major manufacturer. In the ten-inch screen size segment you'll find a number of tablets from under a hundred dollars to over five hundred dollars, so why should you choose this one? Let me give you my perspective:
The most important points about the Acer Iconia One tablet are that it has a proper screen resolution - 1200 x 800 - a proper amount of internal storage memory - 32 gigabytes - and a MicroSD slot that will allow you to add a card as big as you want, which you can use to store music, pictures, videos, and any other content you'd like to add to your tablet. I really wouldn't recommend getting a tablet without features at least as good as these.
The screen does a fine job, though you can certainly pay more and get screens with higher resolutions and better screen technology. I'm not convinced that you need -- or can even see any benefit from higher resolution screens, though I think you can see the difference between 1200 x 800 and resolutions lower than that. However, you can definitely see the differences in better screen technologies -- tablets with "IPS" or "OLED" screens have "wider viewing angles" (at the least), which you can easily see. With this Acer's screen, you can easily see the difference between when you have the tablet laying flat on a table, as opposed to holding it up and pointing the screen towards your face -- it will be considerably brighter if you have it angled towards your face. Screens with better screen technologies won't show as much of a difference. But that's the main advantage you'll get if you pay more for a screen with IPS or OLED technology. Please note, though, that you'll see "TFT" listed as a screen technology for some tablets, but that's the same technology that this tablet uses -- it's not an "improved" technology.
The internal storage memory is the amount of room you'll have to load apps into, to hold any data that they'll need to access, and so on. I sure don't think that 8 gigabytes is enough, and 16 gigabytes is just barely enough -- 32 gigabytes will give you enough room for all of the apps and games and anything else you'll want to run on your tablet. But if you want to load up a bunch of music MP3 files, picture files, and video files, adding a MicroSD card and using that is something you'll definitely want to do, and you can do that with this Acer tablet. I've got a 128GB card installed in mine, and it works just fine. I expect that any larger cards (200GB is the largest available as I write this) would also work just fine.
So, those are the "most needed" features that this Acer tablet includes. There are only a couple of issues that I would consider to be negative points about the tablet:
Sound quality is pretty minimal. It's fine for notification sounds and such, but for music and video playback, they're certainly not the best. However, all tablets use very small speakers, and I don't know that anyone would be very satisfied with the sound quality from most tablets. Of course, the solution is to pair up a Bluetooth speaker -- even an inexpensive, ten or twenty-dollar speaker will sound far better than this tablet's built-in speakers, and the same probably goes for most other tablets at any price.
The other issue is how this tablet has 1 gigabyte of system RAM -- at the top end of the price range, you can find tablets with 3 gigabytes. The main difference you'll note is that more system RAM will make tablets run faster, though this is just something that you'll have to decide whether it's really worth paying more for more RAM or not. This tablet might take a little longer to boot up, and it might take an extra second or so to launch apps -- I think the differences aren't really that big.
Finally, you will read in other reviews about a notification that says, "System memory is low," so let me give you my perspective on that. Yes, I have seen this notification, and note that it is a "notification," which won't really show up unless you pull down the notification panel -- it's not something that pops up on your screen, that you have to work through to continue working. The real bottom line here is that the Android operating system will manage a device's memory all on its own, and you don't have to do anything, or worry anything at all, about it. If your system memory is low, Android will close any processes that you're not using, so you can continue doing whatever you're doing at any given time.
This notification is really just a "feature" of the "System Doctor" app that is included with the tablet. Among other things, indeed you can launch the app and optimize the tablet's memory, but again, Android will do that for you automatically, so you don't really need to mess with it. In the end, this is NOT an "error" message, it's not any indication that there are any problems with the tablet -- it's just a "feature" that's mildly annoying. You can just go ahead and ignore it and keep doing whatever you're doing with the tablet.
In the end, my opinion is that the Acer Iconia One 10.1-inch tablet is one of the best "budget" tablets on the market. Especially if you can find it at a sale price, it's a great value. Sure, you can spend more and get more and better features, but you simply don't "need" to spend more to get a decent Andriod tablet. I think it's a fine-looking tablet, and I appreciate the tablet's textured rear panel -- it's very easy to hang onto. I'm giving it a five-star rating, given how it rates with other tablets within its price range -- I just don't think you can do better for the price.

Going into using this Acer tablet my expectations weren't high. For my purposes, it is perfect. All I will use it for is to watch videos, listen to music and surf the web.
I added a 32gb microSD card to up the total memory to almost 60gb so I can download movies and music without worrying about the storage.
The quad core processor is sufficient to watch movies, listen to music, etc. Where I did find it lag a bit was playing some games that I have tried. Since I won't use it to play games very often it's not an issue with me.
The screen resolution is about what I expect out of a $150 tablet. I will say downloaded movies do look better than when you stream videos. It's clear with very little blur during action scenes.
The built in speakers are adequate for videos, but not great for music. I've tried using wired and Bluetooth headsets and the sound was much, much better.
All settings are easy to change without much effort.
I have no need for a high end tablet with the laptop and phone I use. This tablet performs exactly was I would expect it to. I've read some negative reviews, but I am very realistic about the performance I will get from a tablet at this price.

I am very satisfied with my new Acer tablet. I have tried a number of less expensive tablets with poor results. The Acer gives me great performance on the things I need such as lists of church music and public library books.

If you purchased this tablet for email, streaming video and basic productivity functions you won't be disappointed. Is has plenty of onboard storage as well as SD expansion capability. Multi-tasking is limited due to there only be 1 GB of ram, of which 1/2 is normally used by the OS. You will get regular "low memory" warnings if you try and do 2+ things at once! This is not a "gaming" tablet, but it did play low level games just fine! It's a great deal for the price along with great battery life if you understand the hardware limitations!
