Good budget tablet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let's be clear, this is not a great tablet, but what it is, is a good entry level budget friendly tablet that performs basic functions well enough. There are no bells and whistles on this tablet, and what it does have isn't really great, but that's expected from this price point. The all plastic build is solid and light with a texture back, a nice touch. The screen resolution isn't great but clear enough for browsing the web. The color is surprisingly good and crisp. The camera is sub par making pictures look muddy. The back mono speaker is bad. Volume is somewhat low and sounds hollow and echoes. The usability is where this tablet does perform to expectations. It reacts well to input and is pretty fast, but does occasionally lags when hit with fast typing and changing apps. It does get warm somewhat fast, even from just being Facebook for about 10 mins. The UI is easy to understand, and if you're familiar with Android OS then this tablet should feel right at home. Overall, this is not going to compete with the big boys, but if all you need is basic functionality then this will work out fine.

Pleasantly surprised
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very surprise by the tablet performance and the features that offers. The pictures and video comes beautiful and clear. When compared to other tablets I have purchased in the couple of years this one by far is the best.

Very nice beginner tablet or starter unit for kids
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I didn't have a lot of expectations for this tablet. I've never owned anything by Acer and have always perceived it to be a lower quality item than comparable products. However, I was pleasantly surprised at this 8" tablet. It was an extremely fast set up (5min) and after a few minutes of clearing out the bloatware (there was a lot but some might want those apps) it was ready to go. Installing updates took a few minutes but the tablet was moving along while updates rolled in the background. Battery life has been average. Overnight it only lost 1% while sitting idle, which is good. But when playing a game like Plague it dropped by almost 20% in 20min or so of playing. Battery life on most devices like this tends to improve after the first few charge cycles and that game does use a lot of resources, so I'll give it an average mark. In normal operation, such as email, surfing the web or using various apps, it is quick, responsive and there is no lag. Build quality appears to be solid but it's a little heavier than I would expect an 8" tablet to be in 2016. Screen resolution is solid but, again, this tablet wasn't meant to compete with the 4k displays out there. For the money, there might not be a better tablet out there. It comes with 16GB of memory, with about 9GB available. However, it has a MicroSD slot and I had no issues inserting a 32GB card into this machine. I did not test anything higher because the 96GB card I own is in my phone. Overall, this is a great budget table for someone who is looking for something basic or as a gift for a child. There is a kid zone app that restricts the user to apps and games that are child focused included in the tablet. Also, a 30 day free subscription to Google Music was included at no cost. I would absolutely recommend this tablet to anyone looking for something basic without breaking the bank.

a budget tablet. gets the job done. great value.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To start this review, I think it is important to make sure one understands what they are looking for in a tablet and what one is purchasing. Across the internet I saw some reviews comparing this table to higher-end and much more expensive tablets, the iPad Pro, for instance. This is not that device, which is why it is many many hundreds of dollars more affordable. With that understanding, I will begin. Here I will highlight some of the features of the device: PROS Connection: Although it does not have AC Wi-Fi, it works well and is fast with G and N standards. I haven’t had any issues with connection. It always gets connected and it never drops the signal. Display: The display is not perfect, but the 8" IPS 1280x800 screen displays clear and vivid colors. It is a pleasure to consume media with, and quite honestly, is much better than most screens seen in this category of tablets. Performance: No lags, no freezes. The multi-core chip and 1GB of RAM are enough for my use case. I use the tablet just to browse websites and play light and simple games. If that is what you are looking to do, you should be fine, but I do feel doing much more may cause some slowdowns. Micro SD Card: Well, it has one, which in itself is major pro. These are becoming more and more rare these days, but with one, a user can add quite a bit of space at a fraction of the cost of buying that storage space with a more expensive model. I put in a 128GB card and it’s working flawlessly. Software: Personally, I am predominately an Android user as I appreciate the many options and customizable features it brings to the table. This tablet is running Android 5.1 and will serve your needs quite well. Acer did a good job with their Android UI modifications and I find it works well. That said, be aware there are some bundled programs that come with the device. For the most part, it is easy to remove and bypass nearly all of them. Some of the programs may be useful, I can not say, as I did not use any of them. CONS (OR NOT REALLY, JUST THINGS TO BE AWARE OF) Internal space: Even with the addition of a SD card, the fact remains the tablet only comes with 16GB of internal storage. That is simply not a lot of space in today's world. While you can store many things on a SD card, some programs will not allow that practice. Just something to keep in mind. Build Quality: Again, it is hard to truly take points away here, but this is not an all aluminium-build etc...with all premium materials. That said, it feels well built, solid and has a nice bit of weight to it, that is, not to say that it is heavy, but rather it "feels good" in the hand. I would, however, recommend a case given the materials used. Camera: The 5MP rear and 2MP front cameras, are, well, usable for general needs. You can snap a picture and use them for VoIP calls, but they are not much more than enough for you to get by. Sound/Speaker: The sound works perfectly for all uses, but the speaker lacks lows, with little bass and does sound tinny. Overall, I like this device and I think it is a great value. I think people looking for a simple device that does not feel cheap and perform many tasks well, it is a great purchase. If your use case is web browsing, email, facebook, light work and some casual games, you can't go wrong. A great family/child tablet as well. If your needs are greater, you may be better served looking elsewhere.

Screen keeps blacking out
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is HORRIBLE. The screen keeps going black (but the back light is still on). I can tell that this appears to be a software issue since sometimes when the screen reappears, it looks for a fraction of a second to be what was on my screen several seconds BEFORE it went black. Yes, I am running the very latest system firmware, and yes, I have tried resetting the system to factory defaults several times. I have a minimal amount of software loaded on this tablet, and these are applications that I have used for several years on many other systems and never had any problem like this. I have been an Android user for years, and I actually help design computer chips for a living, so this is not a "stupid user error."

It's a good tablet for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had it for about 3 weeks and the screen just crashed on it's own. I will bring it back to fix it (I put on a warranty with Geek Squad), but besides that it works fine.

Easy setup
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This sleek, lightweight tablet is a joy to use. It was simple to pull it from its box upon purchase and walk thru the prompts to set it up. Its battery was at 70% capacity upon me pulling it from the box. Love when you don't have to wait for a device to be fully charged before you can start using it. Haven't used an Android-based tablet since my 16GB Galaxy Tab 2 days, so was pleasantly surprised that entering my Google account info during the setup phase gave me the option to install the same apps I'm currently using on my Samsung Galaxy S5. Battery life on device seems to be 6-7hrs. It can run a bit warm if you're running super intensive games on it, but it doesn't seem to overheat. Easy access to microSD slot too.

Surprised and happy!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I should probably start off with a couple of disclaimers. First, I love Apple products, that's usually what I prefer. Second, this is my first tablet, so I don't have a lot to compare to. I have a Mac and an iPhone, and I haven't enjoyed my experience with Android in the past. All of that being said, Apple doesn't have a tablet available for $100, and I love this Acer! First the size, I think it's good. I don't have huge hands or anything and I feel like the 10" would have been too big for me. (Although I wish the 8" was available in 32GB instead of just the 16GB). But I can deal with that. I was very surprised and happy with the picture/video quality. No, it's obviously not 4K Ultra HD, but for a little tablet like this, it's more than enough. Also, the complaints about the speaker in this thing? I don't get it. Again, it's a $100 tablet, it doesn't have top quality but pretty good! I can watch Netflix without headphones, no problem. The battery life is also impressive. I took this out of the box and started messing around with it. I've been downloading apps, playing music (Pandora!), tried Netflix (works great), and playing games (Sonic!). I have about 1/3 of my battery left after 4 1/2 hours of use. And remember, I didn't charge it at all, this is fresh out of the box. Bottom line, this may not be the ultimate tablet, but it is a solid item that comes with a very decent price tag. I love mine (in fact my roommate is a little jealous that he didn't get one). I would absolutely recommend it.
