It's ok

Nice Basic Tablet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a nice tablet for the price. Full access to the android market apps. I use it to watch Netflix and it works just fine. It comes with decent storage to download apps and games. If you are familiar with Android phones works the same way. I am more familiar with Apple but found it pretty easy to learn. The camera is average, not great quality but decent. For the price it's not a bad purchase especially for younger kids if you are not wanting to pay the higher price for Apple IPad. Battery life is good on a single charge and it does charge fairly quickly. It connects easily to your wifi and the speed and responsiveness is good.

Sound stopped working
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The second time I used the tablet, the sound stopped working. I got online and learned that it's a common problem with this unit. So I returned the item without any problems.

Good tablet for child or light use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, the Iconia One 8 is a nice looking, basic tablet that is priced accordingly. It looks much like its pricier competition, and although it does not have the same control buttons, its buttons are placed in the same locations as its pricier competition, making it easy for someone accustomed to that brand to begin using it right out of the box. Although there is no manual included (manual is download, only), I found setup easy. Downloading apps is straightforward, although I would appreciate having a progress indicator. The charger has a very short cord and a "one way" device plug. That means I have to put the device close to an outlet, then put on my glasses to insert the plug into the device. There is a battery icon that gives a very rough indication of battery status, but a percentage indicator would be nice. The display is fine - not as sharp as a high end tablet, but good for the price and quite serviceable. I've found it satisfactory for browsing the Internet and checking the weather radar. The on-screen keyboard is a good size, larger than I expected and easy to use. It is an Android device, so I can use it with our new Sony 4K TV and probably with several other brands, as well. That means we have easily streamed live content (after installing the appropriate apps) and gotten a good picture and sound quality. I like to read in bed and was hoping to use the Iconia One 8 for that - it's a nice size and weight - but I cannot get the display to be dim enough to prevent keeping my husband awake, even after adjusting the brightness level of the device and of the reading apps I use (Kobo and Nook), so I have gone back to using its pricier competitor. Of course, this might not be a problem for another user. This would probably be a good choice for a child or for someone who wants to do some of the things one might do with a smartphone, but with the advantage of a larger screen.

Good tablet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Screen is very responsive. Plays average games well as long as they aren't extremely resource heavy. Browsing the web, e-mail, and any app i tried all ran with no issue. Picture is not perfect but its still very clear, high end users won't be happy with it but everyone else should be happy with it. Video's, Movies,Tv etc, i had no issues playing either. The only major flaw is the sound. Problem #1 is its on the back of the tablet, second issues its only in one location so the sound isn't spread out evenly either, and even at max it doesn't get very loud. I would recommend anyone who gets this to get a cheap external speaker to use with it, and or headphones. Sound is fine with either option its the internal speaker that is lacking. Battery life is decent, depending on usage, and how much you have actively running in the background, you'll need to charge it every night to once every 3 days. I know that's a big range but i usually get around 10 hours out of it. Another issue there are a lot of apps you cant take off but you can disable / hide them. However this is common with many tablets. Cameras aren't great but they are typical for a low end tablet, they can take pictures they just wont be all that great. The sound issue or the cameras might be a dealbreaker for some but everything else works just fine. I use mine at home usually so setting a speaker on a table nearby if i want to use videos or if Im out id have headphones on wasn't a big enough of a flaw for me to return the device as everything else works great. As for the cameras i rarely use them. The storage you can expand with a micro SD card to 128GB. Its a good tablet, mainly aimed at, kids, retirees, beginners, and those on a budget. Its not a high end tablet but its decent especially for the price when on sale.

A good basic tablet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start off by saying if you're expecting this tablet to be compared to an iPad or other higher end Android device, then you might not want to read my review. This tablet is perfect for just browsing the internet, reading email, and having some games/apps on it. That being said, getting setup with this tablet was easy and asks you to create a Google account (I already have one that I signed in with). It syncs with your account well and it comes with lots of stock Google apps to use. There are some app icons that are on the main screen, but they are not installed on your device (meaning they are shortcuts). You can remove these from the tablet, which I ended up doing. The size of the tablet is pretty nice and the back of it has some grip to it that makes it easy to hold. The OS installed as of this review is Android 5.1 and works pretty well with it. The tablet has a Quad-Core processor, which is pretty fast for this tablet. Opening apps seems to be quick for the most part and I haven't experienced a lot of hiccups with it yet. As with all tablets, the camera isn't anything that great. I am not one for taking pictures or videos with a tablet, but did just to see the quality. In low light, the pictures are grainy and pictures with more light aren't that much better. But let's face it, most of you aren't going to use this as a primary camera. There are only two physical buttons on the tablet, the power/sleep button and the up/down volume both located on the right side of the tablet when it's facing you. Switching between apps uses virtual buttons on the tablet itself. Overall, this is a good basic tablet. This is what I expected the device to be and it isn't disappointing. Like I said, it's not the workhorse tablet that you could replace your computer with, but this is good for a leisurely device.

A snappy device for a budget tablet!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upon setting up my Acer - Iconia One - 8 Tablet. There was something I did not expect from this ideal sized tablet. It was one quick, very responsive device. It was a breeze to setup, with it's almost current Android OS, Lollipop 5.1. The only real negative matter at hand with this device is it's front facing camera, the quality of it sensor is not up to par. Comparing it to other current devices, it just does not measure up. My review would be 5 stars if it took better selfies... This is a great device for consuming media, whether it be movies, news, email or social media.

Great little tablet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a tablet/e-reader with a bit of power but at a low price. Something I could carry around, hop onto a web browser with as necessary, and keep track of a new small business remotely (I use more powerful full Windows systems for the actual tracking but with my spreadsheets uploaded to Microsoft's OneDrive/Office 365 cloud it gives me a way to get updated information quickly or to make changes to my spreadsheets.) This little tablet does everything I need it to do, and it's got some kid-friendly programming to boot (which is great when my 5 and 4 year old are around.) I'll stop short of giving this five stars because it's not a five star device, though I will say that it's great for the price. There's a bit of a lag when you're multi-tasking (not terrible, not a deal breaker, but I've worked with far snappier tablets at higher price points...) The cameras, while decent and fully capable of handling quick photos, Skype, etc., are not professional grade (5 MP on the back, 2 MP on the front) and the display is a bit choppy when trying to take a "selfie." I'm not sure what the person in the other review is talking about. The speaker on the device, while not powerful and a bit quiet, works fine so if you're watching a video in a quiet room it's adequate, though it's certainly not going to win any awards for sonic quality. That said, the 16 GB of built-in storage is plenty for most people, and if you like to keep videos, music, etc. locally or store a lot of photos the MicroSD card slot makes it expandable and works just fine (plus it's easily accessible and the card is easy to get in and out. The screen response to touch is snappy. Downloads are fast. Video runs with no problems (have streamed video from NetFlix, YouTube and Kodi Media Player.) Has ScreenCast so if you have a device that allows you to stream to your television it will work with that. And if you have a Bluetooth speaker or headphones the sound quality is just fine. In short....if you want something with a bit more punch than a sub-$100 budget tablet and not as limited (without sideloading) as a Kindle Fire, okay (not exceptional) cameras, a clear screen and enough power to run your productivity apps, music, videos, Kindle/Nook readers, or lower-powered games, this tablet is an excellent choice.
