I love my tablet great for watching movies while I'm at work

I'll start this review with my final opinion of the Acer Iconia One 8: It is not bad at all. For well below $100, you get a tablet running Android Lollipop version 5.1; 16GB of RAM; and an 8” screen at 1280x800. For me, all of these things add up to a device that is perfect for consuming media. Twitter, Feedly, Instagram, YouTube and others all worked well with the Acer. It's not without its shortcomings, though. With 1GB RAM, the tablet can stutter at times, but this usually only shows up when trying to quickly scroll large lists or web pages. It's noticeable, but temporary. It's something I'll live with given this tablet's low price. A bigger problem with the Acer is it's inability to keep a connection to my router's 5gHz wifi band. It seems to connect, but just as quickly fails. However, the 2.4gHz band's performance has been steady so this isn't a deal-breaker for me. Like most other non-Nexus-branded Android tablets, the Acer Iconia One 8 comes with a handful of software pre-installed, only some of which can be removed. I replaced the built-in launcher almost immediately with Action Launcher 3, which runs perfectly. Using that launcher, I was able to hide the other software I had no interest in (and could not uninstall), such as an Acer photo viewer, file manager, and music player. This is not a high-end tablet and it's price clearly shows it. I'm glad I have it, though. If you're looking for a competent device running a recent Android release, and you don't want to spend a lot, you could do far worse than the Acer Iconia One 8.

(3.5 out of 5) This Acer tablet is pretty much what you'd expect: It gets the job done, albeit with some slight stumbles along the way. First, the screen isn't full HD, rather 1280x800, which is somewhat surprising considering all the other "HD" tablet products. Secondly, it may have a quad-core processor, but this is nothing flashy; after a few days with it, it seemed a little unresponsive (but I also felt this initially as well). Essentially, it isn't as snappy as you'd expect. Also, multitasking is fine, but with only 1GB of RAM you may not have a lot to work with. Games work fine, but again are held back by the screen. I wouldn't recommend any demanding games either, as full titles such as KOTOR (an old Star Wars game) were not playable. Camera is what you'd expect, okay but nothing to praise, or neglect. The biggest surprise was the battery life of this tablet; continually got 4 days of standby time with it, as well as a solid 1.5 days of use with it, which I never expected. The tablet itself isn't bad looking, which is a nice touch. To sum it up, the pieces of the tablet are fine, if not a bit average. There isn't anything standout about this tablet, other than decent battery life, but there isn't anything terrible either. If you need a solid little (8.1 inch) tablet in your life that isn't going to constantly die, this may be a decent one for you.

This tablet is great for everyday use. Not as good as an iPad but still good

After charging, I let it sit for more than a week and the battery was still full of life. The camera, listed at 5.0mp, was not as clear as I'd hoped, but would be sufficient for taking decent photos or video conferencing. The focus seemed a bit slow. It is lightweight and not huge, so great for traveling. The 16GB version, out of the box, had just over 8GB of available space after the pre-installed Iconia Suite. All in all, a nice small tablet for a small price.

This is a great tablet, if you get it at $79.99 and not the original price.
