A Worthy Inexpensive Tablet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the right customer the Acer Iconia One 8 is a reasonably-priced tablet with a nice set of features and capabilities. It is not for the high-end consumer (e.g. iPad customers) nor will it replace a laptop. But that is not really its target demographic. If you are looking to spend under $100 for a workhorse tablet to surf the web, check e-mail, play games, take pictures and even read e-books using the Kindle app, then this tablet will do quite nicely. The touch screen is nicely responsive and very clear. And there are a lot of apps available via Google Play. And the battery life is pretty good too. Leaving it on but not charging does not drain the battery much at all if you use the device minimally.

Great Tablet for Newbies
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Acer Iconia One 8" Tablet is a great tablet at a very reasonable price. Was ready to go right out of the box, had my account setup and was using the tablet within minutes. Has plenty of features for the tech newbie or even someone looking for a new tablet. The quality and build are nicely done, and the controls and cameras are conveniently placed. If you're looking for a sub-10" tablet with plenty of features for less than $100, the Acer Iconia One would be a great option to consider. Pros: SD slot for expanding memory Headphone jack and small speaker for music Easy to setup and use Looks great Cons: Doesn't support Apple products (shouldn't be a surprise since it's an Android device)

Decent & Simple Android Tablet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decent and simple Android small tablet. Perfect for kids use. Setup took about 10 minutes. If you are familiar with any Andoid devices than nothing is new and everything is very familiar. Memory and storage space is a bit on the low side. Recommend getting a MicroSD card for additional space and moving some of the apps you install to it. The plastic back and edges don't feel very strong so I also recommend getting a case that will cover and protect them (especially if you are going to let your kids use it). Sound from the speaker is ok. Camera shutter is a little slow and is only 5MP. Connecting to wi-if networks is easy like on any Android device but seems to run a little slow compared to my other devices. All in all, for the price it is not bad for a simple Android tablet.

Not terrible depending on your needs
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I, personally, wasn't incredibly pleased with this tablet. I'll preface my review by stating this tablet was my first experience with an Android tablet and have almost exclusive experience with iOS (Apple) devices. Initial setup was relatively straight forward, but there were a couple of bloatware type of options that I didn't choose to participate in. I feel like things could have been more streamlined and less about logging in to a bunch of services and signing up for a bunch of things you probably don't need. After setup, I made sure to log in to the services that were integrated like Facebook, Twitter and Google. Integration was nice for sharing and using the extra Acer dashboard that was on the left most page. This page was just populated with all of your social network stuff so tweets, facebook posts and youtube videos. You could customize this with which services you wanted displayed too. I browsed around the app store and installed a couple of apps that I use a lot. I was happy to see 1Password available. All of the basics were there. I installed Hearthstone to see how well it ran. Running it for the first time gave me a warning that this device's specs were lower than those that were recommended but the game still ran. I played a couple of games and although the framerate definitely dropped plenty of times, it wasn't unplayable. I'd say if you're looking to play more intensive games, you may want to go for a device with some higher specs. I imagine Minecraft might run OK but I wasn't able to test it. The hardware feels decent. The size is all right to me. I prefer a little larger just for the screen real estate but this is all just up to your preference. Sadly, my device came with a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen. It's very noticeable on black and red screens, but you have to look for it most of the time. Screen resolution didn't look too bad. Overall, I think I would only recommend this device for people who minimal needs. If you just want a device for light web browsing, email, facebook and some very casual games, you'll probably be fine with this device. Maybe as a device for kids to play some light games with. If you're looking to do actual work or play games with a lot more intense requirements, you'll probably have a bad time.

Coming up ACE(s)R!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a little skeptic about taking this Acer for a spin, but I was pleasantly surprised. This tablet is very responsive and provides a decent picture. I thought the battery life handled itself well and it charged and a decent rate. There are also some Acer specific apps installed on the tablet already. After checking them out, they appear to be well done and very useful. Big props to them. The only knock that I can give it is the internal memory. With my other mobile devices I have set the bar at 32GB and I hit that eventually. I would like to see an option around there in this size of a tablet. It is compensated for with an external addition, but that is never a true problem solver.

Great little tablet!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to set up to my liking. The back 'button' is on the screen, not the frame where you can't see it like my large Samsung tablet. Front and back camera is a great touch. This is the tablet I would get for my elderly aunt since it is so easy to use. Not a big fan of the high gloss on the screen but it seems that everything has that now...very reflective and annoying.

LOVE THE ACER TABLET
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The white ACER tablet is great. Love the speed. Touch is sensitive so that you're not continually swiping to get somewhere. Clarity and resolution of screen is very good. Its easy to navigate to the apps and comes with a good "starter pack" of apps for most uses. Just had to install Netflix. I watched a couple of movies and had no problem with the streaming ... no waiting for the movie to buffer. My ONLY COMPLAINT is that there appears to be something wrong with the speaker. It CONTINUALLY cuts in/out ... like there's a loose connection inside the tablet. This is annoying when watching a movie, so had to wear earphones which I don't like using.

Very Impressive Tablet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although Acer is hyping the Iconia One 8 as a perfect family or kids tablet, I think they are underselling its capabilities. The market is flooded with tablets right now and there are a lot of bad choices available - but it’s hard to find any reasonable fault with this tablet. I’m planning to use this primarily with the Kindle eBook application and for some browsing and maybe some Youtube away from home and this little 8" tablet is clear and fast on all counts. I had considered buying the new (cheap) Kindle Fire but I found its reaction times to be too slow - and the newer iPad minis with their Retina displays are mighty fine but they are fairly expensive (too expensive for a part-time reader and browser). This is my first Android device - and Android has come a LONG way over the last several years. The operating system is intuitive and fast, the interface looks great, and the applications available are just about endless. I think this is a great tablet. Pros: Beautiful screen - clear and bright. Applications load and run very quickly. Browsing is much faster than on a Kindle. But the Kindle eBook application works beautifully on the Acer - and the dimensions of the screen are better for reading. Reasonably good 5MP camera with HDR capabilities (I love that setting!). Feels VERY sturdy and well built. Intuitive and easy to setup. And yes, Acer has made this tablet very kid-friendly (and, by extension, very parent-friendly). Multi-touch screen. MicroSD support for cards up to 128GB (otherwise the 16GB system memory might be restrictive). Excellent Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functionality. Cons: Charging is slow-ish and the battery life is shorter than what you could expect on the new Kindle Fire and iPad mini (definitely not a deal breaker - charge it overnight). Also, this tablet is heavier than the new Kindle Fire and iPad Mini but it also feels less delicate than its competitors. Best Buy doesn’t have any custom protective cases for the Iconia and the cases available online are questionable (I decided to go with a sleeve).

Very Nice Budget Tablet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Disclosure: This tablet was sent to me without cost for review but without any restrictions on what I could write in this review. I am being as objective as possible and have NO association with Acer or Best Buy other than as a customer of the latter. This tablet was clearly built to a low price point, but that does not mean it's a bad deal. Quite the contrary. For basic tablet functions--and for someone wanting a screen larger than a "phablet"--it works very well. The shell is all plastic, but seem sturdy. Without a protective case, it fits well into my average size hand. It comes loaded with Android Lollipop (Android 5) which is an advantage, although an update to Marshmallow would be a step up. Setup was a snap for anyone with some familiarity with Android and a Google account. As is typical with Android devices it comes with a large (but not overwhelming) amount of bloatware, some of which can be deleted, but much cannot. Happily, considering the limited amount of internal memory, it has a slot for a micro SD card which slipped in easily (but looks like it could be a challenge to remove when the time comes). The software mounted the card easily. Booting is slow, but not agonizing, and it has a nice easy sleep/wake function which works well. The camera will not replace a good stand-alone and has no flash, but it works well for snapshots and has some easy (Acer-unique) editing software. I have not yet tried video. Going back to the operating system, Acer has followed the pattern of others and modified some interfaces and commands to make the distinctive, but not necessarily better. Summary: 1. Good tablet that will meet many users basic needs at a very fair price-point. 2. A familiar and easy-to-use operating system. 3. Some bloatware and overall undistinguished performance compared to pricier tablets.

Nice tablet for the price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Acer Iconia One 8 (BT-850) is a nice little tablet. The 8” display has good color and resolution. However, I wish it had a lower brightness setting or “night time” theme for reading in the dark. It’s easy to customize display and widgets menus to put your favorite apps on the home page. Two swipes (or 2-finger swipe) from top brings up quick settings for brightness, WiFi, Bluetooth, Airplane mode, auto-rotate, location, and cast screen. This is handy for making quick changes to these settings without having to go to the setup menu. The B1-850 has Google voice search (a nice feature in my opinion). The build-in microphone does a decent job. The documentation states that you cannot use a headset with an external microphone, but my headset works fine for listening and speaking. Earphones are highly recommended if you want to get any audio out of the system. The built-in speaker (singular) is VERY humble. The unit will accept a SDXC card (up to 128GB) and the USB port is “On-The-Goe” enabled to permit connection of USB clients like a DAC (provided a software driver is available). The GPS works well outdoors, but would seem to be useless for navigation unless your car has WiFi. A few complaints… * There are no accessories on the Acer web site. I expected a cover at the very least. I wound up with a generic 8” tablet cover that works well enough, but don’t expect a local retailer to carry device-specific covers or screen protectors. * I know this is an Android thing, but you cannot remove the preloaded apps. One app, InMobi (a mobile advertising app), keeps trying to connect to my location and Google Play account. * The USB port is at the top of the tablet. This makes it cumbersome to charge the unit while in use. Overall, a nice tablet for the price.

Good Starter Tablet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Being a lifelong Apple user I struggled to use this tablet at first. However after a few days of tinkering I was able to get it running. I do like the seamless integration that Google offers with Play, gmail, YouTube etc. I also like being able to purchase more memory which is great considering this tab only comes with 16GB. The one area this tab fails is screen resolution. Not nearly as sharp as other android devices and the processor is slow in comparison to other ones. This is a good tablet for the price and would be an excellent starter tab before breaking into the big boys.

Great Starter And/Or Budget Tablet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This tablet gets the job done. I'd recommend it as a first tablet or for casual use. I was able to check my email, Facebook, and browse the Internet without issue. The plastic back feels a little cheap and the speaker isn't great, but for the price point it's a relatively good tablet. The touch screen isn't the best, but it's responsive enough and I didn't get frustrated. The display isn't mind blowing, but it looks good. If you know this is a budget tablet, you won't be disappointed. Bloatware is my only real complaint. As far as functionality goes, this is a solid tablet.

Budget tablet that gets the job done, cheaply
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll start this by saying I'm quite biased when it comes to tablets as I own many other competitors' tablets that put this one to shame. That being said, this tablet is a third the cost of flagship tablets. It has most of the things one would expect; touchscreen, charger, speaker, wifi, camera (front and rear), a battery. It also happens to come with android 5.1 and a VERY unbloated one which is a great plus. I only found 5 apps on it that I consider bloatware and they were extremely easy to disable. Ideally I see this as a starter tablet for kids, senior citizens, or for employee use. Camera: is TERRIBLE, do not rely on it at all. Slow, takes terrible photos, has gimmicky features as well. Speaker: sounds small and is buggy, I often have to reboot when it stops working. Operating system: I've only had it a week and it has rebooted on its own twice already, I cannot begin to state how annoying this is when in the middle of doing things. Wifi: Actually I found the wifi module to be quite speedy. Screen: can get pretty bright, one major disadvantage though was that this device does NOT have an ambient light sensor, meaning it will not get brighter in bright settings or dimmer in dark settings. Battery life: not great, I got a max of 3 hours on it doing close to nothing, playing a movie will drain it entirely, I do not suggest using this as a gaming device other than for simple arcade games. I did find the EZ wake up feature to be pretty cool and I wish my other tablets had it. I enabled it to wake up and go straight to Google just with a 5 finger tap when the screen is off.

Great little tablet!!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's a nice portable device, and perfect screen size to carry around with me. I take this to the gym and use it to watch my shows via Netflix, Hulu, while I'm on the treadmill. The device feels solid and study. The graphics is very bright and clear. Battery life isn't too bad either. The only down side is the 16gb internal memory. If you want to watch videos and especially download for offline viewing, you will need to get a MicroSD card.

Great budget tablet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This 2016 model is a great burget tablet. As a budget tablet, there are certain compromises, but overall feels very usable and agile enough for most tasks. For comparison, 2015 models used Intel Atom CPUs, this uses a quad-core Mediatek Cortex. Most android apps are designed with ARM CPUs in mind, but I'm not sure it's actually an improvement over their previous design. The speaker sounds tinny. There is a small grille on the back of the tablet. The sound comes from the back and sounds muted if not held 'the right way'. I think this could've been improved without substantially changing the price or other specs. Buttons on the side are plain plastic, and the overall case fells a bit toyish. It doesn't seem like it would take small drops very well, so I'll be getting a case. The screen is nice for what this is: 8" IPS 1280x800. It's very legible and much better than other screens at this range. The 8" screen feels much larger tha other 7" models I used in the past. It has a a memory slot, and runs on Android Lollipop 5.1. I don't have high hopes about seeing an upgrade to 6 however. The cameras are usable, mostly for video calls. Although it does not have AC Wi-Fi, it works well and is fast with g and n standards. The battery seems to drain a bit fast and it takes a bit long to charge. While Acer does bundle applications and its own UI, the applications are minimal, and many can be removed. Acer's modifications feel natural and works well. It has 1 GB RAM and 16 GB ROM Overall I would recommend it for a budget tablet.

Solid Tablets for the Price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received a 8" for my review for TIN, so my review is reflective more of the 8" device than the 10", however I did get a chance to play with the 10" in store for a bit, so I'll keep the review kind of high level. Essentially the device is a great google tablet. You get the play store, some junk icons on the homepage, but the cruft is kept to a minimum. So if you're experience is nexus devices, you'll feel at home at this device. You can even debloat it for the most part. The screen is lower resolution than some tablets in the past, but it's acceptable and gives the tablet's CPU/GPU a bit of wiggle room. Even with only 1GB of ram on the 8" model, I did not experience any slow downs in everyday browsing. Be certain you are not buying a premium device here - that said it's build quality is excellent, and I'd put it a notch above Amazon devices when it comes to overall software experience. I really enjoyed my 8" and I'm certain the 10" with it's larger RAM and Storage would be a great edition for those entrenched in Google's ecosystem.
