Good device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's exactly what I wanted it to be, an inexpensive way to switch between multiple google play accounts on one device. Performance has been good. Battery life is a little shorter than desired. Sometimes I have to disconnect/reconnect wireless to keep strong signal - not sure why, but overall it's been very good. Easy to set up and use.

GOOD but ...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted inexpensive and it certainly met that criteria. I needed an Android operating system -- check. But as others have mentioned, the battery does drain pretty quickly. Still it suits my purposes, since I don't have a smart phone, I use this device to monitor my home security cameras remotely when I am traveling. I can not give this device a blanket recommendation because it depends on how it will be used.

Good Tablet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good for the cost, but the audio is shaky. I have to keep hitting the back of the tablet to get it to play sound out of the little speaker it has. I returned the first one because I could hear nothing when i turned it on, they replaced it with another. now I have to do what i describe above from time to time, however if i use an ear piece the audio is 100% perfect. Otherwise good for the money.

Great tablet on a budget.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked up this tablet while comparing other similarly priced tabled. This beat out the competitors based on the hardware specs and screen clarity. I removed one star as I felt this device doesn't feel as sturdy as some of the higher end tablets and the screen has no bevel to protect it. If you pick up this tablet be sure to get an appropriate case to protect it from falls or impact.

Good job for a good price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am one of those that as soon as I buy a piece of new technology, I want to use it immediately. I lack the patience and the will power to dedicate valuable time reading through pages upon pages of complicated set up instructions in multiple languages. Upon opening the box of the Iconia One 8 tablet, I was immediately gratified. There were three items inside: the tablet, the AC power adapter with USB connecting cable, and the user manual. The enclosed user manual must have been written for young people with excellent vision. I was able to read the Getting Started pages easily enough, but I couldn’t read the Safety and Comfort or Regulatory Information sections or the Passport booklet beyond the subtitles. Thank goodness we live in a technological age where so much information is at our fingertips on the World Wide Web that I could download it to my laptop and read it at my leisure. I did allow time for it to charge overnight, but only because I had other obligations at hand. My first thought as I held the 8” tablet in my hand was how comfortable it was with the dimpled back. That made it easier to grip with my fingers and it didn’t slide on a smooth surface. I turned on the power and the One 8 booted up quickly thanks to the MediaTek Cortex A53 MT8163 processor Quad-core 1.30 GHz. Acer’s Iconia One 8 runs on Android™ 5.1 Operating System with a Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) battery. According to Acer’s website, the max battery life is 9 hours, making it a desired item to bring on long car trips or outings with children and adults. (I didn’t run the device that long to confirm the batter life.) There’s a micro USB port on the bottom (great to recharge in a car with a converter) that sits alongside a headphone jack at the top. The volume and power buttons are located on the right side. It is set up similarly to my smartphone, making it feel comfortable and familiar. The dimensions of the One 8 tablet are .4” height, 5” width, 8.3” depth. It weighs 11.99 oz, making it not light, but not overly clunky. It is easy to hold in landscape mode, though the tablet does get heavy after a while when streaming videos. The screen display is 8 inches, running at a 1280 x 800-pixel resolution. Streaming movies was easy, but the speaker placement made it difficult to listen and watch as the sound was somewhat muffled coming from the bottom right corner and going into a direction other than my ear. I watched multiple episodes of the same show and found the color saturation and brightness off, causing the colors to appear washed out and gray rather than vivid. Once the One 8 boots up, you are walked though the steps to Synch your apps and email from Google and your smartphone. That was so convenient and it saved me the time to have to do it manually. Once on the main screen, you see several pre-loaded (game) apps taking up valuable space. There is Acer BYOC (abPhoto, Music, Files and Acer Portal) and Iconia Suite with EZ Snap, EZ WakeUp, and Pocket). Acer’s B1-850 offers 1 GB RAM and 16 GB Flash Memory. What is wonderful is the MicroSD slot memory reader to expand the device’s storage capacity. The downside is that the slot is not covered, so it can collect dust or dirt. The device easily connected to Wi-Fi through the Bluetooth and I was off and running. Apps loaded effortlessly. The LED backlight made it easier to see the images on the screen in bright conditions. I had my husband text out the keyboard as he has difficulty typing on the smartphone with his larger, less dexterous fingers. He declared the One 8 keyboard so much easier to type on. The letters are not too big that they take up a lot of space on the screen, but there is enough room for big fingers that there is less chance of mistypes. My two favorite uses for tablets include taking pictures and streaming movies. Acer’s One 8 has two cameras. The rear camera is 5 megapixels, and the front camera is 2 megapixals. I was disappointed that the quality of my indoor shots was not as good as those taken on my smartphone. But for a quick outdoor photo, it will do in a pinch. I guess I can’t complain when I compare the price tags for my smartphone and the tablet. Acer’s One 8 still offers a lot of options for a budget price. I enjoyed the different camera modes and options under the settings: Modes: Normal mode, Live photo mode, Motion track mode (consecutive shots), Face beauty mode, Panorama mode (with instructors on when and how to use) On the screen: Auto capture when detect a smile, HDR; Switch from rear camera to front camera Under settings: GPS location info, Image properties, Anti-flicker, Shutter delay, Anti-shake, Face detection, Auto scene detection, Self-timer, Picture and Preview size, ISO The bottom line on the Acer One 8 tablet is that it is an economically priced tablet that does the basic things a tablet needs to do. The Android operating system makes it easy to run right out of the box. It is perfect for kids with small hands, but adults with larger hands will find it comfortable as well. The long-life battery means hours of portable use without having to charge it. The front and rear cameras take average quality shots that won’t win an award, but are perfectly adequate for posterity’s sake. Can you find tablets that offer more options? Yes. But you won’t find them at such a reasonable price. If this is your first tablet, it is worth buying to allow you to get familiar with what a tablet has to offer. Once you identify the specific options you desire in a tablet, then it will be time to pass this down to your children and upgrade to the next level of Acer tablets.
