For the price, this is a really nice tablet. It is designed for media consumption and does that very well. Don't expect it to be a gamer, it handles basic gaming, but not beefy enough for hard core stuff. One warning, finding a case for this is nearly impossible. You can use a general purpose 8" tablet case, but there will not be a cutout for the camera.

    Great Tablet For Work

I had an iPad Mini originally for work but I always felt that I wasn't getting enough bang for the buck. I just wasn't using it enough to justify the price of the Mini. The Acer Iconia One though is a perfect blend of power and price. It has everything that I need for use at work (for taking notes in meetings, email, quick look ups of info, and for pulling up documents to show others). While not pocketable (unless you have very big pockets), I really like that I can hold it completely in my hand (and I have just normal size hands) and type very steadily on the device. It tucks away in my briefcase easily and has a very good sized screen for what I need. While I have a lot of Apple gear/programs and work on Windows systems at work, I find that the Android system has enough programs in its stable to cover me with very little workarounds. The Acer does come with a little too much bloatware (cruddy programs that you will never use) but it is pretty easy to disable them and get them off your screen. Hey, at least you CAN get rid of them, unlike Apple's baked-in programs on the iPads! All-in-all, I'm very pleased with this tablet and see myself using it for a long time. Good choice!

I've always had a good experience with Acer. This tablet is nice for the price. The only problems I have is that sometimes it takes a very long time to charge and other times it does not. My other problem is that once I try to turn it on from sleep mode it takes about 6-8 seconds to turn on. But otherwise it's an awesome tablet.

The tablet meets or exceeds the needs for the child this was purchased for. I don't like the fact that a child- friendly/proof case is not available for this tablet which is a replacement for one under extended warranty but is no longer available.

We bought this tablet for our 13 yr old daughter to play minecraft, other tablet games. Is perfect. Keeps the charge for a long time (or long enough that I'm not noticing her complaining about it anyway). Good buy for the price!

DIsclaimers: 1) I was given this device in return for my fair and unbiased opinion of it. 2) I'm primarily an Apple person. While I do have other devices based on Android and Windows technologies, I primarily use Apple in my day-to-day life. The Acer Iconia One 8 (model B1-850) is a tablet that gives you a lot for not very much money. It has a look and feel that makes it seem like it costs more than it does. It's not the fastest thing out there, and it's certainly no stat king, but that doesn't mean it's not a capable device. It does have a few drawbacks, but it's pros outweigh it's cons. First, we'll start with packaging. While not as fancy as what Apple, Amazon, or Samsung would put their devices in, it's still nice. The tablet comes with a 2 amp (or 10 watt) wall charger and a solid microUSB cable for charging and syncing with your computer. It also includes a basic instruction manual in an easy-to-open package. The packaging does well in protecting the device. As for the hardware itself, you have an IPS screen with a glass digitizer. The IPS screen is bright and clear with good color and image quality; the screen resolution of 1280x800 works well for it when it comes to playing games, watching video, or reading websites and books. The glass digitizer gives the tablet the screen feel you'd get with an Apple iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, or higher-end Amazon Kindle Fire tablets, and supports multi-point touch with up to 10 fingers. The textured plastic back isn't overly slick and remains comfortable to hold after an hour. The 64-bit quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM make for a smooth, fluid experience in Android Lollipop. It's powerful enough to handle anything from productivity tasks (surfing the internet, checking your email) to social media (Facebook and Twitter run fantastically well on this device) to casual gaming (Smash Hit, which can be a little demanding, runs at 60 frames per second on this device). Don't expect it to run more demanding games smoothly though. Bluetooth 4.0 is also featured in this device, which means it's compatible to BTLE devices, and it works well for anything from headphones to a keyboard. It also features in-line microphone support with analog headphones, USB OTG connectivity (with an appropriate cable), and a micro SD slot that supports micro SDXC cards up to 128GB (I only had a 32GB microSDHC card to test with, and it works well). The disappointing spots, when it comes to hardware, are the cameras, the speaker, and wifi connectivity. While the stats on both cameras sound decent enough (5mp rear camera, 2mp front), both are slow and suffer in poor lighting conditions. The rear camera does somewhat better with video than photos, but the only way to get a good picture out of the front camera is with bright lighting; both cameras also took pictures that seemed undersaturated to me. The speaker is mounted on the rear of the device and sounds tinny when compared to the speaker in my iPad Air or even the speaker in my in-laws' original iPad. The wifi connectivity is actually on the slow side; 2.4 GHz connections are limited to 65mbit and 5 GHz connections are limited to 135mbit. The range for 2.4 GHz connectivity actually makes up for the slow speeds, however - I was able to stay connected to my wireless network router over 300 feet away from it. In terms of software, Android Lollipop has come a long way from the days of Froyo, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jellybean, and even KitKat. The interface is here is pretty much straight Android, with a few apps pre-installed. Acer includes their "Bring Your Own Cloud" suite, which I did not test out because of issues with my Windows machine (there is no Mac OS-based client software for this service). The built-in Google apps work as they should, and the selection of apps in the Google Play store will fill most of the voids that Acer left on this device. You can also change the interface used to any number of home screen apps. That brings us to battery life. Acer claims this device will last 9 hours on a full charge while streaming video. After using this for a full day for social media, email, web surfing, YouTube, and a movie on Netflix, I can say their claim is probably an underestimate. I also benchmarked the device to get an idea of what it's performance is. It scored 35000 in Antutu, which is a stress test that gives you an idea of what the processor and video capabilities are. In comparison, my iPad Air scored 67000 and my iPhone 6s scored 135000. I also ran the SunSpider Javascript benchmark on these three devices, an iPhone 4s, and my iMac Core 2 Duo, with scores as follows: iMac - 221 ms iPhone 6s - 220.8 ms iPad Air - 490.2 ms iPhone 4s - 1830 ms Acer Iconia One 8 - 1635 ms So as you can see, it's not the fastest thing out there, but it's also no slowpoke either. The Mac is running Mac OS X 10.11.5, the iPhones and iPad are on iOS 9.3.2, and the Acer is running Chrome 50. All in all, this isn't a bad device. Improvements to the cameras, a better speaker setup, and wifi connectivity speed improvements would make it nearly perfect, but at the price it sells for, it's still a good value.

I replaced a much more expensive Samsung 7" tablet with this 8" model. I love it! It is easy to use, the keys to type on are larger, making it easier to type emails and reviews like this. I would recommend to a friend for sure.

Budget Tablet: Surprisingly Worth Your Attention!

The Acer Iconia 8 tablet has been an exceptional product for the last two months. Its price tag, while often a detractor, is perfect for those who need something on a budget or those who do not need a lot of horsepower. It is perfectly suited for the most basic of tasks such as email or surfing the internet. For the price, the build quality actually felt pretty solid. However, I would like to caution though that if you are considering this tablet, or have done so, to please keep in mind this tablet is not designed to compete with more expensive choices. Therefore, to prevent disappointment I caution to keep expectations relatively reasonable. Starting with the display, the 1200x800 IPS display was actually quite colorful. The color contrast was quite vibrant and I found text quite sharp and clear. Viewing angles were also excellent. I also ran a couple of HD videos that I made and they look fantastic, especially the one from a bluray source. Using VLC player, the 1080p playback was smooth and did not lag or skip. I also used the tablet to read PDFs for my online college course and it worked out quite comfortably. In addition to reading documents, the tablet's physical size facilitated this as you can hold it easily in one hand. Thus, web browsing would also amount to same comfortable experience. Furthermore, battery life seemed to be fairly good, with light to medium use. It could easily last for a day or longer. I was able to almost get a little more than two days out of it, but granted your life will vary depending on use. For charging, it took roughly two hours to get a full charge. Aesthetically, the Acer Iconia One 8 was constructed quite well. The touch screen seemed quite durable and Acer did not seem to cut any corners; its responses are fairly on point. The plastic back might feel a little cheap to some people, but for me personally it did not really bother me. Additionally, the micro SD slot and micro USB are located at the top, as well as the 3.5mm headphone jack. I would like to add that having the micro USB on the top actually helped during reading sessions as it kept the cable away from me, but also prevented any tension imposed by the cable while in use. I did not have to worry about the male end of the micro USB snapping off inside the tablet's port. For testing its audio capabilities, several have mentioned horrible sound or messed up speakers, though I did not have that issue. During my video tests, the sound came out quite clear, though as one would expect there was hardly any bass. At max volume, it did not sound good at all, but that was expected. For general listening, it does its job well, albeit headphones are recommended. In addition, for music playback I tested using my Kilpsch Status headphones and loaded it up with various FLAC files from my personal collection. Sound quality was actually fairly good; some of the bass oriented songs actually came through much better as opposed to the speaker. I also tested its Hi-Res playback using Jazz and Classical genres, with both files at 96 KHZ/24 Bit. These all sounded fairly decent and for a budget tablet I was surprised it handled it quite well. However, as one would expect, it could not produce all the subtle sounds associated with these types of files. Conclusively, one would be fairly content with the sound just as long as you aren't expecting a concert. Headphones produce the best fidelity overall, while the speakers are best left at low to medium volume. Camera quality was not at all surprising, working best in very well lit environments or with lots of daylight. This was probably weakest aspect of the tablet itself, although you must consider that for the price, we were lucky to even get a camera in the first place, let alone two of them. Granted, most people would not be taking scenery shots with a tablet of this price, as most of its use would be focused on other tasks. As for picture quality, most of the pictures were fair, with most colors washed out. During the day, with the windows opened, pictures came out much better. In the end, the camera is a nice feature even if it is not up to par. Nonetheless, it would be enough to entertain kids, especially with certain applications that could modify pictures for a few laughs. Conclusively, I would say this is probably the weakest part of the tablet, though definitely not a deal breaker. Conclusively, the Acer Iconia One 8 is an exceptional product at its price tag, and I have no doubt that it would meet the needs for someone who wanted to check their email, shop their wish list, or browse around on the internet. In addition, watching a couple of videos here and there would also be a pleasant experience. As caution previously, as long as your expectations are reasonable, there would be little to complain about. However, if you are easily disappointed, I would strongly advise to consider the higher priced tablets. I also would like to point out that the Acer Iconia 8 may also work well for kids to play games on, but performance here may be hindered by the 1GB of RAM. Although I did not test this personally, simple games should have no problem running on this tablet. Furthermore, if its primary use is to entertain kids, the price is extremely attractive as it would be easier to replace this tablet as oppose to more expensive alternatives if something were to happen. In the end, for a budget tablet the Acer Iconia One 8 fits the bill and most certainly your needs as long as you curve your expectations. For the price, I don't think you can beat it.

This has been one of the best tablets for it's price. I tried another cheaper tablet which was an off brand, (AZPEN) and it had to be replaced two times in two yeas. So far the Acer is performing better than I expected.

I bought the Acer tablet because my older one was getting hard to charge. The Acer was economical and is a good reader for my Amazon downloads. It also takes pretty good pictures and videos, and can browse the internet just fine. I am satisfied with this purchase.
