I am quite impressed with the performance of this system. However, it is more of an entry-level gaming PC. During my testing, Rise of the Tomb Raider had an average of 74 frames per second with default settings and DX12. We saw the mid-90s with a few drops to mid-80s fps in Diablo IV, with settings on high. As with any computer, adjusting the graphics settings could get you better frame rates . Additionally, the 3050 Ti only has 4GB of RAM, so I recommend playing something other than triple-A titles on this system. Overall, the laptop is responsive for daily tasks, but I did notice some stuttering in games and when loading applications. Occasionally, the delay was enough for me to think I didn't click the app, which led the app to load twice. The display is clear and looks great for watching movies, gaming, or browsing the web. The keyboard is also comfortable and responsive. Battery life could be better, but this is not a significant issue since I primarily use it at home. The quad cooling takes some power to run, so you give up a little battery life for not overheating. The system wasn’t shipped with loads of bloatware—big points for that! I only had to uninstall 3 applications. All the games ran smoothly once loaded, and online games were perfect. Highly recommend the Acer AN515 58 to anyone looking for a reliable, entry-level gaming laptop.

In the hours I've put in testing this laptop, it's pretty nice and performs well given the internals. Looks wise, it's a nice laptop, certainly carries the gamer aesthetic. It's quite large though. I'd expect a system of this size and weight to have some higher tier components, i7 with at least a 3070 or 4060. There's plenty of input's and outputs. There's a Type C and HDMI on the rear. 3 USB 3 Type A ports, 2 on right, 1 on left. There Ethernet port on the left as well. The AC adapter connects on the rear, which I personally prefer as it means less cables coming out of the sides. Performance side of things. I was rather impressed with it. I know it's not a new game or anything that's cutting edge, but I tested out Horizon Zero Dawn and was rather blown away. You can, without DLSS get 60 FPS in that game on Ultra Settings. That's quite the accomplishment, especially given this is a 4GB card and it was exceeding the frame buffer by around 300-400MB of VRAM. I did also test with DLSS and got an uplift to an average of 75FPS from the 61FPS Average in the benchmark. I was going to test a new game that recently went to Early Access on Steam called Forever Skies but for some reason the Benchmark option doesn't work. Given this only using a 3050 Ti, most modern titles are going to be a Medium or Low settings in the majority of them with DLSS, especially given the 4GB of VRAM. Looking at some comparisons of the 3050 Ti to other cards, it fairs fine at normal/med. Once you get to high, it quickly starts to fall behind at 1080p. It's roughly 5-10% slower than a 3060. At High Settings, that changes to around an addition 10-60 FPS depending on the game. The 4060 is about twice as fast as the 3050 Ti in nearly everything. Battery life I'd say is ok. I tested watching a Youtube stream at 1080P60 and an hour, it was down to 75%. So just watching videos, you're looking at maybe 3-3.5 hours run time. Gaming that's gonna be even less depending on what you're playing. With the size and heft of this laptop, a bigger battery would have been welcome. I appreciate that ACER didn't skimp on the drive. It's a great TLC based drive that's quick. Measured over 6500 Reads and 3500 Writes. Nothing to sneeze at. This is also a Gen 4 drive. They even included an adapter to install a secondary 2.5" drive in the box with the accessories. The screen is Matte and I personally perfer those over others. I've got a work laptop that has a glass 4k touch display and it picks up every single reflection in the known universe. The Acer has great reflection handling. It doesn't get crazy bright, but enough for comfortable gaming in a darker environment. It's 1080p at 144hz which is certainly welcome. I used a different gaming laptop that had a slightly higher resolution, but it was a 75hz panel and that's just not acceptable especially with how expensive that one was. The Keyboard is backlit with red lighting. There's also a 10-key which is always welcome. It's not bad to type on or use, but certainly cannot replace a dedicated external keyboard. The cooling can get noisy. It wasn't very distracting but I was wearing some open back headphones which certainly let's sounds in. Just to see the loudness, I set the fans to spin at max in the NitroSense app. These things crank to around 7500 RPM at maximum speed, there's also two, 1 for the CPU and 1 for the GPU. It doesn't take long for them to bring temps down. Leaving it on auto is advised. If you're going to run them at max, you're going to headphones to tune it out. With all this in mind, I'd be hard pressed to recommend it at it's retail price. You can do much better for the same price with better GPU's and CPU's. There's some around this price point with 4060's and those are significantly better performing than the 3050 Ti.

The Acer Nitro 5 is a total W, nga. I copped this for gaming and light editing, and Allahumabarik, it runs everything smooth af. That 12th Gen i5 + RTX 3050 Ti combo? Straight fire. Most games run high-ultra with no stutter, and the thermals are solid thanks to the dual-fan cooling system (loud tho, vro, not gonna lie). 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD = chef’s kiss. Fast boot times, zero lag, and enough storage for your fav games unless you tryna hoard 100GB triple-A titles Screen's crisp, keyboard got red backlight that lowkey slaps, and overall build feels premium for the price. Only con? Battery life mid, like 3-4 hrs tops if you're gaming. But ay, it's a gaming laptop, not a MacBook. Final Verdict: If you're looking for a budget-friendly but powerful gaming laptop, this the one, broski. Highly recommend.

The Acer Nitro 5 series of gaming laptops have been around for some years. And though serious gamers would consider this as a mid-level gaming computer, this specific model can still hold on its own. This Acer Nitro AN515-58 boasts of having a 12th gen i5 12405H which has 8 cores and has a maximum turbo frequency of 4.4hz. For most gamers, this would be quite sufficient, This comes with 16GB DDR4 3200 MT/s pre-installed. But it can be upgraded to a maximum off 64 GB using DDR5 4800 MT/s. For now this will serve its purpose, but I may upgrade the RAM to 32GB when memory becomes more affordable. As for the GPU, this gaming laptop is equipped with an Nvidia GTX 3050 Ti GPU. And while note the latest out in the market, this GPU is still 30% faster than the earlier GTX 3050 GPU. And like most laptop GPUs, the included GPU includes 4GB of RAM. As a point of comparison, gaming desktops now have 8GB of RAM. Still this would suffice for most gaming applications. One point of contention here is that this model comes only with 512GB of RAM. And with games being so huge nowadays, this may not be sufficient. As such, I immediately replaced the stock NVME M.2 SSD with a Samsung 2TB EVO Plus SSD. And upon opening the bottom of the laptop, I immediately noticed that there is a slot for another M.2 SSD inside. I understand you can use Intel’s Octane Memory and Storage Management app to create a RAID volume. But having a 2TB SSD, I feel I no longer need this function. Also, like most gaming laptops, this model also has a slot for a SATA based SSD. Again I understand you can use RAID on this but I do plan to use the SATA SSD on my previous gaming laptop as that is where I store data for games and other configs for easier transfer when it’s time to upgrade. One thing I did notice is that Samsung’s Data Migration was not able to fully clone the SSD since the hidden partitions were not copied. Perhaps, using other cloning tools may clone everything. Nonetheless, I did a clean install of Windows 11 on this machine. So far everything is fine with this machine but I do have some minor gripes though. First, is that the backlight of the keyboard is not customizable. And by default, the backlight turns off after 30 seconds. And while this is normal for gaming laptops, the issue here is that it is hard to read the keys when the backlight it off. If you do not plan to use an external keyboard, then this can be sort of an annoyance. But in my case I do plan to connect this laptop to a 32” 4K display and also connect a gaming keyboard and mouse combo. Also, Acer Care’s instruction for calibrating the battery is a bit off to say the least as it instructs you to drain the battery and charge it again but the app requires you to plug the laptop otherwise the app won’t work. Just calibrating the battery the old fashioned way by doing a full discharge should suffice. That said, I would still rate this gaming laptop as a capable laptop able to run AAA games found in Steam. I would still recommend this to others.

First of all, this laptop seems well built. Despite being plastic, the chassis feels stiffer than I would have expected at this price class. The specifications are certainly reasonable for the price. If aesthetics matter, it has a “gamery” look to it with the accents and features that would seem more at home at a lan party than in a conference room. The display is full HD resolution with a high refresh rate. The feature set is also adequate, but not exceptional. It has a thunderbolt (USB-C) port on the rear, along with HDMI. There is no DisplayPort output, but the thunderbolt port can provide that with the right adapter, so running two external monitors should not be a problem. The 16 GB of RAM is adequate, but it is DDR4 instead of the more capable DDR 5. However, this is understandable given the price point. Aside from the usual USB-A, audio, and RJ-45 (Ethernet) jacks, there is also a Kensington lock slot, an appreciated feature that is missing from other laptops at more than twice the price. But, sadly, there is no fingerprint sensor nor any type of SD card reader. Quite surprisingly, the internal storage is unusually expandable. It only comes with a single 512 GB m.2 ssd, but that is easily replaceable, and there is a slot for a 2nd m.2 drive. More surprisingly, next to the battery is room for a 2.5” SATA drive, and the laptop includes the necessary cable. So this laptop can accommodate THREE solid state storage drives. Unfortunately, the SSD is of limited usefulness these days, and it takes up space that could have been used for a larger battery. The included battery is 55 WH. Not a terrible capacity, but gaming components prefer performance over power efficiency, so this will only provide around 2-½ hours of watching YouTube in my tests. So this does not have “all day” battery life, but this is excusable given that its target audience. But a larger battery could have fit in the case if the SATA drive space was removed. The keyboard also feels good for a non-mechanical laptop, and is acceptable given the price point. It has a numeric pad on the right, and the touchpad is large enough and very usable. While the keyboard is backlit, your choice of colors consist of red, red, or red. The lack of RGB is understandable given the price, but a white LED, while not being as “cool” would be slightly more practical. Still, the backlight is certainly usable in a dark room. As to actual real-world gaming, it ran modern titles very well, including Fortnite Valorant, Cyberpunk, and Genshin impact at a stable 60 fps or more. Overall performance was good considering the asking price.

The Acer Nitro 5 is an impressive gaming laptop that delivers strong performance without breaking the bank. Equipped with an Intel 12th Gen Core i5 processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti, it’s more than capable of handling modern games at high settings while maintaining smooth frame rates. The 16GB of DDR4 RAM ensures multitasking is seamless, whether you're gaming, streaming, or running multiple applications at once. The 15.6-inch FHD display provides crisp visuals with solid color accuracy, perfect for both gaming and everyday use. The 144Hz refresh rate is a nice touch, offering smoother gameplay, particularly in fast-paced titles. While the battery life could be better, this is typical for gaming laptops, so it’s best used with the charger plugged in during intense gaming sessions. In terms of design, the Acer Nitro 5 is sleek and functional. It has a bold, gaming-centric aesthetic, and the cooling system does a solid job of preventing overheating during extended play sessions, keeping temperatures under control. The keyboard feels responsive, with customizable RGB lighting adding a bit of flair. For those looking to game on a budget, the Acer Nitro 5 offers fantastic value with excellent performance and a solid feature set. It's a great entry-level gaming laptop that punches above its weight.

    A Solid Budget Gaming Laptop

The Acer Nitro 5 is a budget gaming laptop which comes with a 15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) 144Hz display and packs a 12th gen Intel Core processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics card, 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of SSD storage. Vents and ports are located along the sides and rear, with a bit of red trim along the rear vents. The rest of the Nitro 5 has chassis is black, giving it an understated look that is a contrast to most gaming laptops. The Nitro 5 has a reasonable amount of ports. The left side has an Ethernet port, a USB-A port, a headphone jack and a Kensington lock key, while the right side sports two USB-A ports. Over on the rear, you’ll find a single Thunderbolt 4 / USB-C port and an HDMI port. You may find the single USB-C a little lacking, but again, this is an entry-level budget gaming laptop and the port selection is adequate. The 15.6-inch FHD screen is large enough to show details in games and work well for movies and streaming content. The screens is reasonably bright , and the colors are reasonably accurate for gaming, although it will likely underwhelm if you happen to be running photo/video editing software. The Nitro 5 has decent audio quality for a laptop, but it's not going to wow you with bass -- an issue with almost all laptops. You'll want to carry a decent set of headphones with the Nitro. While it's not going to overwhelm you with performance, the Nitro 5 does a competent job of running most 1080p games I tasked it with running at medium to high quality settings -- Cyberpunk 2077 being the exception at 25-30 FPS. That's fine, as one shouldn't expect to run games with all their bells and whistles on a laptop this inexpensive. Productivity performance is more than reasonable. I had no issues running office applications while having a dozen tabs open on my browser and running Youtube videos. While not a slim and lightweight as a business laptop, the Nitro 5 is capable and holds its own. The keyboard has plenty of room and the action is decent. The touch pad is a bit underwhelming, but gamers will have a controller or an external mouse, making the touchpad a bit irrelevant most of the time. The build-in 720p camera is underwhelming, and doesn't support Windows Hello, making it pretty much pointless for anything other than .. well, it's just pretty much pointless. I suppose it's serviceable if you just have to have to attend a Zoom meeting. That's something, I guess. Battery life was like everything else -- reasonable. It lasted between 5-7 hours of regular use, but not much more than a hour for gaming. Heat was reasonable when not gaming, however the Nitro 5 does get a bit warm when gaming, but so do pretty much all other gaming laptops. The fans were fairly quiet when things heated up, and I didn't experience any issues with thermal throttling. Overall, the Nitro 5 doesn't really stand out in any area, but it doesn't disappoint much either. It's a solid entry-level gaming laptop that won't break your bank account, and that's not a bad thing at all.
