Awesome Gaming Tower for the price

Setup: This is a really complete gaming tower. The setup was pretty simple. It was well packed and included an RGB wired keyboard/mouse. I plugged in the tower and pushed power. The basic setup thru Win 11 was pretty smooth and fast. Then I ran the usual updates. Initially the desktop ran slow the first few hours as it was downloading and updating drivers, Windows and Graphics card. After those it ran smooth. I am not much of a fan of the Acer care app that looks for system updates as there is no way to hide it and it runs in the tray. After creating an Acer account and registering it I was ready to go. Use: I liked the performance and the included 1TB SSD is plenty fast. The SSD is the same as laptops. M2 NVME and it is PCIE 4 which means it is the fastest speeds currently out. The initial noise from the Tower is very quiet for a gaming computer. There is a software app called Predator Sense is pretty useful in that you can see/tweak your CPU/fan temps. Also set the fan control from auto to Gaming. I did find the Gaming to be the best for keeping a cool system but it does not auto switch when going from gaming to regular productivity so I have to physically switch it every time. I like how you can change the lighting in this for cool effects with all of the fans/leds on the motherboard. It really makes the computer look cool in my room. Normally I keep the tower under my desk but this looks so cool that I leave it on the desk since the lighting is cool and the side is clear so you can see the insides and they are very neat and organized. I do like the spare USB A and C ports included on the top of the tower near the power button and the Mouse/keyboard can change lighting but there are 3rd party options that are worth the upgrade if it is in your budget. Gaming performance: I tested the following games on a WQHD 2k 165hz IPS Display. I tested them for 60 seconds for the average FPS with the fans on Game mode. Max Visuals, Ray Tracing, DLSS and Dynamic Boost enabled. I think the mid range gaming setup is a 2k monitor and 3060/3070 GPU. I think if you want 4k then should get the one with the 3080. My results are: Dirt 5 153 FPS Fortnite 136 FPS Moto GP 22 164 FPS Flight Simulator 2020 60 FPS Forza Horizon 5 82 FPS Halo Infinite 59 FPS Video Editing and Adobe Lightroom: I found this to be very smooth when editing 50 raw files and converting them to JPG after it was one of the fastest, I have ever used for this task. I would have preferred upgrading this to 32GB ram for these tasks. I did edit a 9min 4k video and export it to 1080P for a Facebook upload and again no slow down and very fast performance. I really like the performance of the full voltage 3070 (Usually 210-220 Watts) combined with the 12th Gen Intel I7 chip makes for a fast system since it has the cooling to keep the CPU core temps from throttling. I found these to run the hottest I have tested to date so this truly is leaps and bounds above the mobile counterparts. The build quality is amazing for the pricepoint and there is room for expansion with the ram and 2 more HDD slots that are toolless which is also a nice premium touch. In reviewing all the gaming desktops under $2k available this takes top honors for me since it is well built and looks awesome. Also there does not feel like anything was shortcut except the fan control software. Other Thoughts are I wish Acer had more wireless mechanical keyboard options to match and other gaming peripherals. Acer did a great job on this system. Also, I like the included Killer 2.5gbps NIC card over the plain Intel 1Gbps.

Very fast, looks cool, has had no problems with keeping up with any of my games. Surprisingly, I love Windows 11 too. The keyboard it comes with isn't bad, there's really nothing wrong with it, but I am terrible on high profile keys. That being said, all of the RGB in the keyboard and mouse is great.

For my review of this Acer Predator Orion 5000, Model PO5-640-UB11, P/N DG.E2ZAA.003, I give it a 4 out of 5 star rating. Out of the box, it is a BIG metal case at 19.9” deep x 19.1” high x 8.6” wide. It has technical specs of an Intel Core i7-12700 - 16GB DDR5 SDRAM Memory (64GB Max) - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 - 1TB Gen 4 SSD. Storage is supported by a 1TB Solid State Drive, with expansion options supporting 2 SATA drive bays. Graphics are supported by a NVIDIA GeForce® RTX™ 3070 up to 8GB supported memory. Networking is supported by Ethernet plus Wireless LAN IEEE 802.11ax. There are a multitude of 10 - ports consisting of 4- USB 2.0 Ports, 3 - USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A Ports, 1 - USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A Ports, 1 - USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C Ports, and 1 - USB Type-C. The operating system is supported by Windows 11 Home, 64-bit. As for cooling, there are enough fans (5-total) in this case (with RGB lighting) to make enough fan noise in "fan" gaming mode to compete with the helicopter scene in Apocalypse Now sans “Ride Of The Valkyrise” soundtrack! :-) Without sarcasm, the fans are very loud in gaming mode that sound canceling headphones are a must!! I do find this gaming desktop to be above entry-level for those looking for some serious gaming along with some major expansion opportunities, it’s a thumb’s up! The reason for the 1-star deduction was for I believe this gaming tower should have another hard-drive in its expandable 2-drivebay options.

    Wonderful Desktop

A wonderful desktop. It has everything that I hoped it will have at this price point (barring wireless keyboard and mouse). The looks are good and the footprint is adequate and nothing too big. The opportunity to tinker with the hardware is immense and if you want to upgrade anything, this is just going to be so easy. The unit simply has a lot of space to play with. I think I saw two spaces for extra HDD and the RAM can be increased to 32 in 5 minutes. The SSD talks man. It just talks. Wonderful response times. The colors are nice and the keyboard and mouse are all backlit. Gameplay in normal setting is flawless. I am a sports gamer and I tried out the following games in the last one week: FIFA 22 NBA2k22 Football Manager 22 Madden NFL22 Did not miss a beat in the normal settings based on the gameplay that I tried. It never over heated and went along smoothly. Don't be worried if you think air cooling may let you down. In my humble opinion, this should do the job wonderfully. If you edit pics and videos: this will be so quick. Editing pics with Luminar is way faster than any other setup one may have as that software is so slow and tough to work with. Editing pics with Lightroom including batchwork has been snappy as well. I have tried editing some videos, nothing big, and have been very happy with the performance of the set. I really do not have anything bad to say about this unit. Buy it.

Received and the rear fan was broken. I contacted the manufacturer but their only solution was to send in the computer for over a month to replace fan. Couldn’t give me a good reason why they wouldn’t just mail me a new fan and I could send them the old one? I don’t want to return this computer over a fan and I don’t want to be without the computer for 2 months either. Really frustrating!

Pro: -Performance -RGB fans are bright Con: -Cooling and airflow isn’t that good -Limited fan control, no custom curves -Loud fans The Components: I’m somewhat of a PC part snob so take what you will. Are the parts high end? No. They work fine but you will be missing out on features such as digital audio or surround out, on board video out, and more USB ports. -Motherboard is mATX with 5 USB ports, 1 USB C, Ethernet, and audio in/out and mic. It’s the bare minimum, but pretty much as expected from a pre-built. There’s only one M.2 slot, but there are extra fan headers. There are RGB throughout the board but they are all hot spots. -CPU is the i7 12000f, so no integrated graphics or overclocking. The cooler looks like a bigger version of the stock Intel coolers. -The GPU is dual fan 3070. Solid black back plate and on the bottom there’s a cut out of the Predator logo. The fans are quiet up to about 60%. -The power supply is a non modular 800w one. -The RGB fans are center lit and have a good diffuse to them. They can get loud at higher speeds. -The case is big. It’s way too big for the components, but it does have a lot of room to work with. There’s room for 2 HDD and 2 SSD on the back. The front is glass so airflow is not that good. It does have 3 more USB and another USB C. -The keyboard and mouse are also RGB and are passable. The lights are controlled by a separate app than the one for the motherboard and fans. Cooling isn’t that good and loud fans: The 12th gen CPU can get hot, and while playing a demanding game with all fans at max, the CPU temp can go into the 80’s and GPU in the high 70’s. Though it’s still within the safe limits, it’s still warmer than it should be. There’s a lot of issues that result in higher temps. One is the lack of airflow from the case. The front of the case is sealed off with just about an inch and half of intake around the side of the front panel, of which the top section is blocked by the front power panel. The second is the CPU cooler, which is like an oversized stock cooler. I’ve seen people saying that once they replaced it, the temps were much better. Third is that the fan control in Predator Sense is very limited, and there’s no custom fan curve. You only have the choice of Auto, Gaming (max), or “Custom.” Auto is relatively quiet, but will have high temps. Custom only lets you set a single linear speed for each fan and only range from 60% to 100%. You can’t set a fan curve in any way, not in Predator Sense, Bios, or even a third party application. The fans can get loud at higher speeds. Overall Impression: The gaming experience is good. Gaming at 1440p and high refresh rate wasn’t a problem. It will run hot so you’ll have to find the acceptable balance between temperature and noise. There’s a good range of RGB effects and the fans look nice. The fans will get loud starting at about 60%, especially the front intake fans. Changing out the fans and cooler should alleviate some of that. Still, having to manually select the fan setting and lack of custom fan curve is annoying. The case has room to add more drives and enough clearance to add a bigger CPU cooler.

Love this PC so far, ive been using it for a couple years now and havent had any problems, the only thing i will say is the BIOS leaves little to no adjustment for any extra RAM speed or even wanting to drop the ram speed.
