If you're looking for an easy to start with gaming computer, this is a strong contender! The box includes a desktop that has enough horsepower to get you started on high quality, high framerate gaming out of the box, a decent enough keyboard that types pretty well for an included keyboard, and a mouse that is not terrible (for an included mouse). All of this together means that the computer will be able to grow with you over time, whether that be a new keyboard and/or mouse, connecting it to your monitor/TV/projector/all of them, or upgrading components inside! My Predator Orion 5000 PO5-650-UB11 desktop came equipped with an i7-13700F (no on-CPU graphics), a NVIDIA RTX 3070, 1TB NVMe SSD storage, and 16GB of the latest DDR5 RAM. Basically, this is an awesome gaming package that is just waiting for you to hook up a gaming monitor and WOW yourself with excellent performance and a very customizable rig! There is more than enough RGB for those that like it, and it's addressable! That means you can customize the look just for you! The RGB on the motherboard instead of on the RAM, GPU, or elsewhere is weird, but it works and still looks good! The case is durable! There's a slim chance that something like the graphics card is going to shake loose, maybe the RAM, but even that is locked in! The side and top panels are removeable to get to the components and dust filters (all removable and easy to clean!), they are held in place by a Philips head screw that was cranked on pretty tight for mine, but you can mostly leave those in a drawer after you have it home and rely upon the quick release latch system to keep things contained and allow easy, tool-less access! This rig had no problems handling COD Warzone/BO:CW/MW at max settings, Fortnite, Forza, or Fallout 4 & 76, and GTA V at max settings! The productivity side is even more impressive, with the i7-13700F and RTX 3070 making for a solid streaming and video editing rig! The amount of power you get from this CPU/GPU combo allows you to easily stream at high quality 1080P or 1440P without an additional capture card or streaming rig, perfect for someone just getting into streaming, casual streaming, or is more interested in recording and editing videos for YouTube! There are two more RAM slots that are not populated for memory expansion, especially if you're looking to stream and record, then edit with Premiere Pro. The 3.5" HDD/2.5" SSD sleds in the bottom of the case are also pre-populated with the SATA data and power cables! You literally just have to pop them onto the drive sled and slide them in! Pros: -Great airflow! -Excellent match of hardware -New RAM sticks look good! (not just plain PCBs) -Good amount of included storage space and LOTS of options to add more! -Keyboard and mouse are more than usable, not just e-waste -Good thermals, all around! -High performing out of the box. -Very limited proprietary programs and bloatware. -Hot-swappable 3.5" HDD/2.5" SSD trays for easy storage upgrades! Cons: -Second NVMe SSD mount shoots off the side of the motherboard -On-board RGB LEDs are an odd choice -Case can be used with other equipment inside of it, but there may be some oddities, such as the 2.5" hot-swappable drive mount that isn't usable and the massive GPU brace (that can be removed, but not reused) Overall, this is an amazing value and a great pick for someone who wants to get into higher-end PC gaming, but doesn't want to fiddle with building their own. This is also a great value for the parts inside and performance! I would highly recommend it!

A Highly Capable Starter Rig For A New PC Gamer!

Let me start this review off by stating that I'm writing it for the benefit of someone who is looking to get into PC gaming themselves or buying a rig for a loved one. For that person, the Acer Predator Orion 5000 is a GREAT PC. I guess it could also be a nice upgrade if you haven't purchased a new gaming PC in a while as well, but if you've got that itch, you are probably going to set your sights higher and more cutting edge. First thing you notice when taking the Predator Orion out of the box is that it is a very nice case with ample ventilation and ports. If you take a look through the glass case you can see the cool new FrostBlade 2.0 fans that have a slight twist/ripple to each blade to improve performance and noise. (I'll talk about these a bit more later in the review.) I always like to pop open a new tower when I first get it to take inventory of the layout, open bays, slots, and the cooling flow. I recommend you do the same. It was here where I ran into my first 'Huh?' regarding the Predator Orion. The documentation about the computer said that Acer had made this a tool-less design for DIY upgrades. Welp, you ain't getting into the case without a screwdriver! I'd call that a tool. I had expected to see external screws that can be loosened/tightened by hand like my other rig. Once I got the case open and after I got a good look at the cooling system, (which which is completely fan/heatsink based with no liquid cooler at all), I was struck with my biggest 'Huh?' about this computer. You can't swap out the primary M.2 SSD nor add more RAM without removing the fan/heatsink from the CPU! 'This can't be right', I thought to myself, so I looked at the online documentation, and not only do you in fact have to take those off, they also recommend you pull the video card as well. BTW, you are going to need a few tools to get that done, so we are still quite tool-full vs. tool-less. That being said, it is all a relatively easy thing if you are experienced with upgrading PCs but I sure wouldn't give it to a newby with the expectation that they will immediately be able to do upgrades. This would be a good PC to learn on later but right now, you are going to want this to be good for the needs of whomever you are buying it for. Oh, and you CAN add a secondary M.2 SSD without pulling anything and you can also add some 3.5 inch drives into two bays at the bottom of the case, which are also the only thing I found to be actually 'tool-less'. So now we have the lay of the land and so I locked everything down and fired her up. The first thing I was impressed with is that a lot of PCs when initially starting kinda 'rev-up' the fans and while the Predator Orion did kick on with the fans going pretty hard, it was by far one of the quietest start-ups I have heard. That nice, quiet, performance continued throughout my initial tests. I downloaded and played Civ VI, Star Trek Online, and Starfield. All of them played well and at good frame rates while dialed in to high or very-high quality. I was particularly impressed with how the Predator Orion handled Star Trek Online, which is my go-to test platform for many reasons despite not being the latest and greatest game out there. The first reason I like it for testing is that it is a Frankenstein of programming and is heavily CPU dependent vs. the GPU. The 13th Gen i7 in this rig did a great job handling the spaghetti code that makes up this game and the RTX 3070 handled the Lighting 2.0 FAR better than the Intel Arc 750 in my other rig despite them being 'equivalent' cards. The second reason I like using STO is that it is probably they game I have played the most over the last few years and I know it like the back of my hand and can tell when things aren't running well. The Predator Orion was one of the smoothest performers I've tried it on. Even with the graphics set to very high standards I was typically getting 60+ frames per second. As for heat, the Orion ran a bit hotter than my other rig (which has a liquid-cooler), but it was still very acceptable and things remained blissfully quiet while playing. I was going to talk about Starfield as well, but by the time I decided to write this, there has already been a patch and some discussion of the fact that Bethesda still needs to do some more optimization for PCs. I'm not going to hold anything against any computer when it comes to Starfield just yet. All-in-all, the Acer Predator Orion 5000 is a good entry point for a new PC gamer or a nice upgrade to an old system. I wouldn't buy it looking to use it as an upgrade platform right away unless you or the person you are buying it for has some experience or has access to someone with hardware upgrades. Storage upgrades will be easy, everything else will take some work.

    Excellent gaming desktop!

The Acer - Predator Orion 5000 Gaming Desktop is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a desktop gaming computer. The combination of processor and GPU in this particular model is the perfect fit between gaming power and the ability to actually cool it. Intel's i series processors are infamously hot running CPUs, but the i7-13700F is the perfect amount of power that is still easily cooled. I have attached temperature readings that I took while stressing the system and only a few of the cores reached 100c while running at full tilt, during this time the fans were running and while they were definitely audible they were not annoyingly loud. The Acer Predator Orion uses mostly consumer parts so if you later decide that you want to make upgrades it is extremely easy to do. This particular model comes with a 1TB M.2 PCIe SSD already installed, it is upgradable with another full size M.2 PCIe slot available as well as a smaller 2230 sized M.2 slot. There are 2 available RAM slots on this model allowing you to add additional RAM as needed, with a total of 4 slots, there is also an additional full sized PCIe slot available on the motherboard if you are interested in adding any expansion cards. The motherboard itself is a custom Acer motherboard with a slightly limited BIOS that could cause issues depending on the hardware that you try to install, but it also works perfectly fine. My only complaint with this computer is how big the case is, there is a lot of empty space in this case which is great if you later want to change out the motherboard for something larger, there are standoffs for larger boards, but if you only need what is already included in this case then there is a lot of dead space and I feel like they could have used a smaller case. Included with the desktop is a keyboard and mouse which of course feature RGB, they are perfectly adequate and if you don't already have a keyboard and mouse it is nice that they include them, but I would recommend upgrading them to something a bit better. The cable management on this desktop is what I would call a step above and you can tell that Acer put some care and effort into ensuring that their product was well put together. One of the great features that I am extremely happy was included is that it has Wi-Fi built in with no external antenna sticking out of the back of the motherboard. I am extremely happy with this product and I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a desktop gaming computer.

This computer so far has been great! It is super fast and plenty of plug ins for monitors and projectors. Also if you ant to put an additional hard drive in it you just plu it in! No additional cords or computer knowledge. It just slides in the 2 places available. You can add a lot of space with a push. The side is easy to access but yet secure. The fans are top notch and you can control the speed and the lights. We have 2 other gaming computer but this is bybfar the best yet!

My first issues began happening within a couple weeks; the computer would just reboot itself randomly. Critical errors where a program was trying to use RAM incorrectly. Fixed it by turning off/uninstalling certain Predator bloatware. 5 months in: My ethernet port kept dropping the connection and THEN just died. (Computer doesn't recognize it's attached even though it's soldered onto the motherboard). Can't return the computer to Best Buy; it has to be shipped halfway across the country for what I expect to be 6 weeks of not having it. Hope I can update this review when I get it back.... When it's operating w/o issue---I love it. This computer is fast for everyday computing. It allows me to run my casual games beautifully and with ease. The mouse and keyboard are superior to other 'included' devices I've received in the past. Though it's bigger than other PC towers, the coloring and transparent side are beautiful. There are a lot of PCs on the market today; at this price point there shouldn't be issues like this. If you want to roll the dice and are getting this on sale, go for it. But, at full price, I'd look for something more reliable with less active troubleshooting needed.

This computer on paper is fantastic. However, the 13th gen CPU does mean the computer will consistently be running 80c and up under load. If you're looking for a space heater as well as a PC this is the one for you. If not, I suggest you look elsewhere. It does run modern titles extremely competently, personally I cannot get past the absolute unit of a CPU that is turning my room into a sauna. As well as this, my Orion came with what I assume to be faulty ram. An issue I will be remedying by returning this beast for another computer.
