Powerful Performance in a Compact Package

I’ve been playing with this Acer Revo Box AI Mini PC for about a week now and really enjoy it. Versatility to place this thing literally anywhere due to its miniature size makes it a great addition to any space. I’ve had it in the kitchen, family room, bedroom, with a projector in the back yard – it can literally go anywhere by being so small, yet powerful enough to be very useful. The small frame can mount under a desk, sit on top of a projector, or what I’ve done the most and love is just mounting it to the back of my televisions in any given room. It delivers a lot of performance in a surprisingly small footprint with its ultra powerful AMD Ryzen AI 7 445 CPU and the integrated AMD Radeon 840M GPU. This thing has plenty of power for any daily activities, operating a home office, or anyone who just doesn’t want a bulky desktop taking up space. The AMD Ryzen AI 7 445 processor packs plenty of punch and provides smooth, responsive performance. Paired with 16GB of DDR5 memory, this mini-PC has more than enough juice to handle everyday multitasking, browsing, streaming, productivity apps, and other demanding tasks, all at the same time. Multiple open programs or internet windows don’t slow it down a bit. A nice bonus is the extra RAM slot so you can upgrade to more memory if you feel the need, but I find 16GB to be sufficient in this rig. Not ideal for gaming, but it actually runs Fortnite on moderate settings with some decent framerates making it suitable for some mild gaming in my opinion. The 512GB NVMe SSD is plenty for everyday users. Being a NVMe SSD provides blazing boot times and speedy performance throughout. It’s a great balance of speed and capacity for what this little machine is capable of. It can hold plenty of files, documents, pictures, programs, videos, games. Definitely enough for every day use. If you’re planning on trying to use this for a lot of gaming or editing videos you may need to attach an external drive, but for what I’m doing the 512 is plenty and runs very quickly and smoothly. I also appreciate how quiet and compact the system is. This can mount to the backside of any size TV and become a large screen full-blown desktop, without the fan noise or clutter of a full tower. This makes it great as an extra computer in the house that can double as a media server and still feels like a full-featured Windows PC. The Copilot+ PC features are a nice bonus as well and this handles Copilot nicely. Set up is very easy, just power HDMI and a USB dongle for my wireless keyboard/mouse. Wi-Fi 6E offers blazing fast wireless network connectivity or if you like the stability and consistency of a wired connection this sports dual 2.5 Gbps ethernet ports. Not sure why they felt the need for 2 but very nice that I can have a hardwired connection. Overall, this is an excellent mini PC for anyone looking for a fast, modern, space-saving computer without sacrificing performance and functionality. I’ve been extremely impressed and very happy with it. I would definitely recommend to a friend.

Compact Windows 11 Co-Pilot PC box

The Acer Revo Box AI is an interesting device, these types of compact PCs are widely used in the corporate and medical field as a cost-effective Windows PC, often mounted to the back of display monitors. I had never really thought about getting one for home use but looking to update my older Dell All in One PC Desktop I thought this would be cost effective since I already have a wireless keyboard and mouse as well as a number of monitors. The Dell All in One serves a simple purpose basic Internet browsing as well as some Microsoft Office work with Word and Excel. The Revo box has plenty of capability with an AMD Ryzen AI 7 445 CPU with a dedicated NPU (thus why it is called a Co-Pilot PC), it also has 16GB DDR5 Memory and a 512GB SSD (solid state disk). It is enclosed in a small white box and with a frankly generous number of ports one USB4 40Gbps Type C Port on the front, 2 - USB 3.2 Gen2 10 Gbps Type A Ports, 1 - Audio Port. On the rear it has and HDMI 2.1 Port and a DisplayPort (Rear), 2 - USB 3.2 Gen2 10Gbps Type A Ports (this is the old style USB ports, not USB-C), two Ethernet RJ-45 2.5G Ports (which most regular PCs rarely have), 1 -DC-In for power and on the top the power button doubles as a fingerprint reader for device login/unlocking with Windows Hello, which is a really cool capability, again lending itself to business use. As for performance, the AMD Ryzen AI 7 445 CPU and the integrated AMD Radeon 840M GPU offer good performance for everyday tasks. Heavier duty work such as video or photo editing may not be well suited for this device, but in a pinch, you could get by. The NPU helps supercharge Co-Pilot and AI features such as real-time translation and response to Co-Pilot chat sessions with some local processing. Network connectivity is flexible with use of the two (yes two) 2.5gbps ethernet ports or the built in Wi-Fi 6e. Frankly given the inclusion of robust ethernet ports, Wi-Fi 7 could be on my wish list. Also, 32GB of RAM would be nicer, but 16GB suffices. So, if you are looking for a compact, modern Windows 11 PC that is slightly bigger than an Apple TV box and already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse and webcam this could be a solution for you. >>> Pros >> AMD Processor offers good performance @ 2ghz with a boost to 4.6ghz >> GPU allows three monitors to be driven via the USB4, HDMI and Display ports >> integrated fingerprint reader on the power button >> small footprint >> excellent connectivity with two wired ethernet, a Wi-Fi 6e adapter and Bluetooth >> quiet, but high load may limit the time the CPU can utilize the 4.6ghz boost mode due to limited cooling capabilities <<< Cons << expandability options are limited << would be nicer with 32GB of RAM <<

Great mini PC with AI features

Long gone are the days of having to have a giant tower sitting on your desk to do your computing. These little mini-PC’s are starting to be come the norm. I had been looking to replace my older tower computer with something a little smaller and more energy efficient and this one definitely fit the bill for what I was looking for. Out of the box, this is a very small cube. It’s about 5 inches square and 2 inches tall. Very easy to have this sitting on your desk and not even notice its there. On the front you get 2 USB ports, a USBC port, a headphone jack, and there is also a fingerprint reader on the top. On the back you get 2 more USB ports as well as 2 ethernet jacks and a DHMI and DP port to connect to your monitor. That should be enough ports for most people, but you can always add a few more with an external device. They claim you can hook up a total of 3 monitors to this small PC, although I have only used one. This comes with a Ryzen AI 7 445 processor with 16GB or DDR5 and a 512GB internal hard drive. I did open this up and there is another slot for a second hard drive as well as a second open RAM slot as well, so you can easily upgrade this if you want to. As far as performance goes, this thing runs very well. For basic productivity tasks like office documents, emails, surfing the web, watching videos and things like that, it works perfectly. Its quick and you don’t even notice that this is a mini-PC. I even do photo editing and I had no problem editing thins in Photoshop. I even did some basic video editing as well using Adobe Premiere. So this is capable of some higher end projects as well. Video rendering did take a while compared to a PC with a full-size video card, but this one will work in a pinch. It does come with some bloatware that you will most likely want to uninstall to free up some space since it only has a 512GB main hard drive. This also has a lot of AI features built into it and in the windows ecosystem that are designed to make your life and tasks easier than ever before. AI image generation, click to do, improved search features, and real time translation are just a few. Overall, this is a great PC for someone looking to save space and mostly does basic productivity tasks. Its also great for someone who wants to get more immersed in the world of AI and see what more modern PC’s can actually do! I would definitely give this a try if you are looking for any of these things. I think you’ll really like it!

I love this Acer Revo Box Mini computer!! I replaced my old ASUS Vivobook 16 from 2021 with this and the Acer very fast by comparison. I am very pleased with the speed of the Ryzen 7 processor and the Radeon onboard graphics. I replaced the 512 GB SSD that came with this unit with a 2 TB SSD from my old laptop and I haven't looked back. I've run Linux and Windows 11 on this unit and even though I found that Linux runs better with less fan activations, I'm currently on Windows 11 now and it is running just fine. The fans don't really turn on that much unless you are really pushing this computer to the limits. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a compact, fast, and capable PC for a decent price.

Always owned a Tower CPU and had to be convinced by the Best Buy salesperson to purchase this extremely small Acre unit. Just setup the Acer Revo Box and began using it. Surprisingly, there were sufficient ports to connect all of our devices, and we have no complaints on the speed of the processor. We don't play video games, and we will find out more when we start streaming movies and TV shows online.

It seems every product on the planet is AI this or AI that now. So I’m skeptical most of the time. Plus, I, like so many others, am worried about the impact the hyper scale data centers will and are having on the planet, the communities they are in or near, the impact on the economy both nationally & locally, and so on; so I worry about not contributing to the issue by making it worse even just a tiny bit. That said this box usages very little power, and so I know that by utilizing it versus my 1000+ watt desktop computer I know I am knocking my power consumption down to a small fraction of what it previously was. HUGE plus in my book since it is saving us money each month. Initial Impressions & Setup Upon unboxing the Revo Box I initially noticed how sleek, and compact it is. That said it doesn’t feel cheap or like it will break if I just breathe on it. It strikes a perfect balance between a small form factor & still having everything I need for my use case which is for work, and general browsing. Setting up the Revo Box was a breeze. Well as much of a breeze as Microsoft will allow Windows 11 setup to be. Rating: 5/5 Everyday Usage We put the Revo Box AI through its passes by my working from it for a week straight for my day job, plus doing some different home server type tasks at night. I’ll be focusing on the daily usage here with my take on its server capabilities in the next section. For me this thing did everything I could have asked. I routinely run two different Firefox profiles with 10-20 tabs per windows with at least 2 windows per profile. So I have at least 40 tabs and up to 80 tabs open in Firefox at any given time. Most of those are on my work profile but sometimes, when coding or doing server maintenance it’ll be more Home/Personal tabs heavy than it is work heavy. This box didn’t even break a sweat when doing everything I threw at it. I really like this mini PC and it is a nice throwback for me to have an Acer again. My first PC was an Acer that was my uncle’s and it was given to me after he passed away. Makes me miss him & my dad even more each day. I am insanely happy with the Revo Box AI for being able to handle my work tasks with ease! Rating: 5/5 Server Usage After work I would then move to booting up Linux on the Revo Box AI. Man even as good as this box is with handling Windows 11, it absolutely dominated Linux. I was using Ubuntu and my oh my did this thing just absolutely demolish anything I threw at it in Ubuntu too. Containers? No problem. Plex? Emby? It did it all with 0 issues. I let the Revo Box AI run the containers and my NAS was the home of the media. It did insanely well with everything I threw at it. I’ll be moving to Proxmox most likely at some point soon. I bet it’ll be even better since it don’t have to run a GUI. I can’t wait to see how it does with Proxmox and running all the containers I will need it to run (Emby, Plex, Home Assistant, Tailscale, AdGuard/PiHole, etc.). I cannot say enough great things about the Revo Box AI. Rating: 5/5 Conclusion The Acer Revo Box AI has done anything & everything I have asked of it. From Windows 11 to Linux it has been an absolute beast and I wish I had more of them to try to run them as a cluster. I bet it would be even better that way too. Hopefully one day I can! But if you need a very capable box for your general productivity and everyday usage then this mini PC should definitely get a look from you. I haven’t been able to confirm the RAM and if it is upgradable yet but I truly hope it is because if it is then it’ll be an even bigger no brainer and I plan to crack it open to double check when I am back home after the holiday weekend. I don’t think you can go wrong with the Acer Revo Box AI-it’s an absolute beast! Overall Rating: 15/15

Overall, this Acer Revo Box AI mini PC is an awesome small productivity / multi-media PC - and in today’s world of ever increasing prices for PC components, it’s actually a reasonably priced one too (at least as of this writing). But is it right for you? Read on to find out! Physically, this is a very small PC at just over 5” x 5” and just UNDER 2” tall. Yet you get a good bit of PC in that tiny footprint, including a 6 core / 12 thread CPU, 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 512GB NVMe SSD. While this is no gaming PC, you do get a Radeon 840M integrated GPU (iGPU / onboard graphics) and a 50 TOPs NPU for onboard AI acceleration. All of that is plenty of power for your day to day productivity and household work - and reasonable multimedia work / editing as well. In a pinch, you can certainly play older or casual games (I would not consider this a gaming PC or buy it for that purpose). Of course you also get Windows 11 so your favorite Windows applications should work just fine. Port-wise, you get a large collection of connectivity, especially for the size. On the front you get a full-function USB 4 USB-C port (you can even power this PC using the USB 4 port - meaning you can run the PC with just 1 cable if you have a dock that gives you power/video/data connectivity), 2x 10Gbps USB-A ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the back, you get 2 more 10Gbps USB-A ports, 2x 2.5Gbe LAN/ethernet ports, DisplayPort AND HDMI (so you get three display connections if you also use the USB-C port on the front) and a DC/barrel jack for power. The interesting thing is inside - unlike many small PCs, you actually do get some room to expand. You can replace the existing M.2 NVMe SSD OR add a second SSD in the open slot. There’s also an additional RAM slot (you can add a second stick OR replace / upgrade the existing one to upgrade the RAM) which is welcome. In day to day use, the PC is quick to start up and handles normal daily tasks like web browsing or office work with ease. You can play back media equally easily and even do some photo (or light video) editing or coding. Even local AI is somewhat possible with 50 TOPs on the NPU. And it’s all done mostly quietly with the fan only spinning up under the highest loads. So if you could use a tiny PC for your day to day, this Acer is a great option. Give it a try today!
