Great laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Gerwat laptop, fast, beautiful screen and extremely light for a 16” laptop. The only issue is that the fans are loud but can be fixed. Its a bit unacceptable out of the box, but acer support helped me get it corrected. The ladt issue I have with this laptop is that the fans seem to run at max speed when closing the laptop, i have reopen then close it again to make it stop as it drains the battery.

Solid thin-and-light, with trade-offs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A really good PC with trade-offs. The good... - Amazing display - Thin and very light, but maintains rigidity - High end AMD CPU with decently fast memory - Sizable storage - Enough ports The not-so-good... - Battery life at brighter screen settings and higher refresh rates is lacking - AMD over Intel means no Thunderbolt - No 32 GB memory option and soldered RAM means you're stuck with 16 GB - Trackpad often senses my palm - No GPU. Even a 4050 would've been a huge upgrade. As is, the display output resolution is severely limited - A single fan for cooling means high volume under load - No facial recognition (fingerprint reader only) If you can get this PC for sub-$1000, go for it. If you need a portable, thin-and-light laptop this is certainly worth a look. For workstation power you'll definitely need to look elsewhere. I'd recommend something with the upcoming Intel chips, a discrete GPU, and 32GB memory/

Acer 16
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Computer shuts off for no apparent reason and that was affirmed by the GeekSquad technicians. When buying computers for young adults going to college the BestBuy policy that you have to return it in two weeks puts you at a lot of risk if you get an unworkable product.

Decent Laptop…
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In the short time that I’ve had the Acer Swift Edge laptop, I’ve mainly used it for simple everyday activities. That is, surfing the web, e-mails, streaming videos, and listening to music. How well does it meet expectations? Well, it functions as expected and that’s all there really is to say about it. The graphics is decent as is the battery life. The video graphics is really nice with the 16” OLED screen as well as having good audio. Being a new set-up, boot up is rather quick. Since this laptop is really only going to be used at home, I have not quite figure out how to set it up so that I don’t have to log-on or unlock the laptop every time that I turn it on or wake it from sleep. Perhaps it’s a limitation of Windows 11 Home. It is amazingly light in weight but features are not compromised. A bonus protective sleeve was included and was much appreciated. The only negatives are that due to the thinness, it doesn’t have an optical drive and that it only accommodates a micro-SD card. These, however, are only minor nit-noids.

Checked all the boxes on what I wanted.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The unit checked all the boxes for me. Crazy lightweight with big OLED display, and fullsize ports. Same RAM as my previous unit - 16GB and suffient storage at 1TB. I may expand the SSD later. I played some of my games with no issues. Not a surprise since my last computer also had 16GB, but SO much lighter. Gonna love carrying this when I travel. The OLED screen was way better than my old computer. I only wish it had less glare. I was lucky and got it on sale from BestBuy. Glad I decide to upgrade to this computer.

Decent laptop with a few gripes
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The screen is nice and large with high resolution, but the <300hz pwm flickering on the OLED panel takes it's toll on your eyes after extended periods of use (a few hours), especially if you have sensitive eyes. I got pretty bad eyestrain after a 1.5hr movie. The SSD is upgradable, but the memory is soldered, and at 16gb, it's good for basic use but as the iGPU takes up to 4gb for vram, only about 12gb is usable for system memory. 32GB option would be much better, or even better would be a hybrid of soldered + upgradable sodimm slot found on many similar modern laptops. The CPU is definitely the standout aspect, the new Zen 4 mobile architecture is efficient and powerful, up to par if not better than Intel's 13th gen. The cooling solution is mostly adequate, but it IS only a single heatpipe + fan, so pushing it hard with games will cause throttling. Battery life is average, I'm getting about 5-7 hours of average use, no gaming or high intensive tasks. Overall it's not a terrible deal, but I'm seeing many last generation Ryzen 7X30 and 6000 series laptops for significantly less (many times less than half) the price. If you don't need the absolute latest and fastest cpu, I would honestly recommend another laptop, unless this one goes on sale. I purchased at $1.3K, and am not sure if I will be keeping it as I'm seeing many other discounted laptops, some of them even having a dedicated GPU for less money.

Great Travel Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Acer Swift Edge 16 has a lot going for it, making it an attractive option for an on-the-go option for someone who values portability. From the large, 16" OLED screen, to the full keypad complete with 10-key arrangement, to the extremely lightweight build, the Swift Edge certainly is a great option for a Windows user on the go. It should be noted that I did not find the Switft Edge to be on the same level as a Windows gaming laptop that I have, but to be fair, I don't think the Swift Edge is targeted towards the gaming crowd. So, when I tested it out, I was mainly focused on more routine tasks like web surfing, document editing, and multimedia consumption. I was blown away by the screen, which is well deserving of all the praise and attention. The Swift Edge 16 sports a gorgeous 16" OLED, 3K display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. This made even the most mundane of Windows tasks feel vibrant and alive. A common issue I run into with laptop speakers is that they have very strong treble, and anemic bass. I listened to some music and while the speakers are certainly serviceable, they don't have a noticeable degree of bass. This made movie watching a half-hearted experience... gorgeous display, with lackluster sound. The machine boasts some nice hardware on the inside, with the 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 CPU. The built-in 1 TB of SSD memory is also great for being able to store a bulk of content without relying on some cloud service. My only gripe with the machine is the 16GB of RAM. I feel like 16GB of RAM is basic for machines, so I would’ve liked to have seen a 32GB option for this device to help future-proof it a bit. The laptop itself sports 2 USB-A ports, 2 USB-C ports, HDMI-out, 2.5 AUX-out, and a micro SD card reader slot that is designed for the micro SD card size without requiring the larger adapter. All of these ports worked fine, and the laptop itself comes with a 65w USB-C power cord, so if you want to use this plugged-in without a hub, you’ll only have the 2 USB-A ports and the one USB-C port left. Sadly, like most Windows devices, I had to spend the first 30 minutes after the initial set up removing all the standard pre-installed, free trial apps to get about as clean a machine as possible. Acer does bundle some additional services alongside the AMD software. The main option I turned on was the option to make the machine run “silent”. For whatever reason, this machine’s fans will kick on even if the machine is set to run in “silent” mode. If they get going, they can get quite loud for my tastes. Not as loud as the fans on my gaming laptop, but still very noticeable. I found using the machine for daily tasks to be overall enjoyable. The built-in webcam is a nice feature that provides comparable resolution to my 1080p external webcam, so having it built in is nice because that’s one less thing to carry. I know I’ve mentioned portability a lot, and something nice and extra that comes with this laptop is a carrying case. Not anything rough and touch, but enough to tote around the laptop and the power cable. If you’re looking for a portable laptop with a beautiful screen for most light or basic tasks, then this might just be the machine you’re looking for. If you’re looking for something for more intensive tasks like gaming or video editing, then I would look at alternative options.

An Exercise In Compromise
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Acer Swift Edge 16 is here for those who crave a "traditional" laptop experience -- no touchscreens or magic folding chassis here -- with an emphasis on a large display in a svelte body. As the name implies, the Swift Edge 16 houses a 16-inch display, and boy is it a beauty. Not only that, but it backs that display up with AMD's latest and greatest mobile processor and somehow manages to cram everything into one of the thinnest and lightest frames I've ever experienced. Unfortunately this system isn't without compromises, and isn't a slam dunk choice for everyone. Unboxing the Swift Edge was very pleasant. Nearly all the packaging is easily-recyclable cardboard, and the bits protecting the machine itself appear to be made from recycled plastic. I was very impressed at how sustainable it all seems to be: props to Acer for considering the planet here. In addition to the laptop and charger Acer includes a protective sleeve for the machine, which is a thoughtful touch. It's a little comical how bulky the sleeve is compared to the laptop, and I wish Acer had seen fit to design a sleeve that was as impressively compact as the Swift Edge itself, but as it is the sleeve offers lots of protection and includes a zippered front pocket for the charger and any other necessities you might take with you on the road. Certainly makes for easy travel with the sleeve included in the box. The included charger is high quality, with a very solid-feeling cord and the convenience of a one-piece USB-C design. The USB-C cable is permanently attached, however, and the prongs on the charging block don't fold, both of which would be nice inclusions for transport. That being said this charger tops up the Acer quickly and will do fine for any other USB-C devices you might have. I'm always thankful when manufacturers see fit to lean into USB-C and not include proprietary charging cables and ports that just mean more pieces to pack. The Swift Edge is designed for maximum screen size and processing power in the the thinnest, lightest form, and let me tell you, they're not joking when they say "thin" and "light." The Swift Edge is almost comically lightweight. The heft of the Acer is more comparable to a tablet than a laptop. In fact, add a case with a keyboard and trackpad to your tablet and it'll easily weight more than this computer. It'll likely be thicker, too; the Swift Edge is seriously thin, whether open or closed. Open up the Swift Edge and you'll be greeted with the main attraction: a stunning 16-inch OLED display. I'll get right to it: this screen is absolutely gorgeous, easily one of the best I've ever seen, and makes using the Acer an absolute pleasure. I could stare at this screen all day; the contrast and colors are fantastic, and the high pixel density means everything renders very clearly. Compare this to some competitors that use OLED screens of lower density and you'll immediately appreciate the lengths Acer went to make this display worth every penny. If you're someone who's picky about the screens they use all day, you should find yourself appropriately wow-ed here. Not only is the screen beautiful, it's gigantic, too. Acer built the screen in the 16:10 format, meaning it's taller than your average widescreen. This size format is a boon for productivity, with plenty of room for longer documents. Not all manufacturers use this display ratio, but they should. It's much more comfortable to work on, and combined with the magic of OLED makes the Swift Edge's screen an absolute knockout. The 16-inch screen size means there's room for a nicely-sized keyboard with a compact number pad to the right and a large trackpad below. Number pads may not be essential to everyone, but it's so darn useful and convenient that I miss it when I don't have it. I'm glad Acer saw fit to include as many keys as they could in the Swift Edge's chassis, as not all laptops of this screen size include a number pad. The keyboard overall is nice, but not exceptional. The keys are roomy and springy, with an adjustable backlight. Typing is pleasant overall, but not quite up there with the best of the best. The trackpad, too, is very good, but not perfect. I've experienced a hair more errant taps than I'd like, and the trackpad itself feels a bit cheap, with a rattle whenever it's tapped in the bottom-right quadrant, and gaps around the edge large enough to see through to the chassis below. I'm glad it's roomy, though, and it responds to multitouch gestures well. The responsiveness to inputs of all kinds is due in no small part to the AMD Ryzen 7 chip within, which by all accounts is one of the fastest processors on the market today. The Swift Edge is impressively fast in pretty much every scenario. It handles web browsing, email and file creation without hesitation, and reading/writing to the hard disk is lightning fast as well. The Swift Edge comes in only one configuration at present, having 16 GB of RAM, 1 TB of SSD storage and the aforementioned top-of-the-line AMD chip. Acer also includes an AMD Radeon graphics chip here which easily handles rendering any day-to-day tasks and had no trouble with some light graphics work. I can't speak to the gaming proficiency of this machine, but I'd venture a guess that casual gamers should have no trouble, but those looking for a heavy-duty gaming rig should do their homework to make sure this machine would meet their needs. For light to medium graphics and design work I wouldn't expect any processing problems, and this machine should have the power to keep up for a number of years. I appreciate, too, the good selection of ports on the Acer, with both USB-C and USB-A, as well as HDMI, all of which are very useful if you're thinking of traveling with this machine. Power and ports together do make for an attractive combination when you're on the road. All that power requires significant energy, however, and this is where the compromises Acer made with the Swift 16 come into focus. The battery life of this laptop is just straight-up disappointing. Even during light usage the Swift 16 burns through its battery, I'm sure due in no small part to the giant OLED screen. I certainly couldn't get through an 8-hour workday on this computer without plugging it in, even when only using it for email and web browsing. Like the gas gauge of a thirsty SUV you can just watch the battery percentage drop alarmingly quickly as you use the Acer. It drains fast enough to remind me of some of the first laptops I owned, which couldn't stray far from an outlet. The Swift Edge might give you five good hours of average use, by my estimation, but do anything that really fires up the processor or graphics card and you'll burn through the battery even more quickly. The battery life of this machine is the biggest letdown for me, as it really diminishes the "portable" nature of this powerhouse machine. While you've got the beautiful, roomy screen and graphics power for some good design-based work, you better make sure you're within range of an outlet if you plan on working for more than a few hours. Even with light computing I wouldn't expect the Swift Edge to last you though the day, which is a shame, especially when other powerful machines can go twice as long or more between charges. At least the Acer's included power adapter is of the quick-charge variety. Battery life is definitely the major sacrifice Acer seems to have made in building the Swift Edge as thin and light as possible, but it's not the only sacrifice to be aware of. While this laptop really is impressively dainty for its size, the downside of this svelteness is more than a little flex in the chassis. Acer used a magnesium-aluminum alloy for the chassis, which is what makes it so thin and light, but in practice this material feels -- and flexes -- like plastic. It has the unfortunate side effect of making the Acer feel a bit flimsy, even cheap, although it does give the machine a beautiful black-green color when the light hits it. I'll trust Acer that the chassis is still durable (and not, in fact, made of plastic) but this magnesium-aluminum material looks and feels a step down from the best laptops out there. All told, Acer really tried to put everything and the kitchen sink into the Swift Edge 16, but came up a little short. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the display really is the marquee feature here; it's gorgeous by every metric, and an absolute pleasure to use for an extended period of time. AMD's processing power is no slouch either, with enough speed to keep up with just about any work task I threw at it. And Acer managed to put this all in an impossibly thin-and-light chassis that still includes a great selection of ports and very good keyboard and trackpad. Unfortunately all this comes at the expense of battery life, which is okay-to-bad at best, and at the expense of a rock-solid, flex-free chassis. At the end of the day this laptop is an exercise in compromise. It has beauty and brains in spades, but feels a little cheap and doesn't last nearly as long as most modern machines between charges. If you're someone who values display quality above all else, and someone who finds the extra space of a 16-inch screen useful, I think this computer is definitely worth looking at. The same goes for those who would benefit from the high-end CPU and GPU, such as those that might spend a lot of time in graphic-design and photo-editing programs. However, if you're looking to take these features on the road, I think you'll be disappointed with the paltry battery life that necessitates always being close to an outlet with a charger on hand. If you can overlook this pretty sizable negative, however, you'll find the lightest 16-inch laptop on the market with arguably one of the best displays out there. It all comes down to the compromise you're willing to make.

Great mid-high tier everyday slim laptop.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If there's anything Acer does well, it has to be making a great feature equipped budget friendly laptop. Best bang for the buck per say. Having the Swift Edge 16 for about a month now, I can proudly say I found this laptop very capable in everyday task with solid battery life and a super crisp display to add as well. The AMD Ryzen performs as to be expected, snappy! While using the maximum 120Hz refresh rate, everything is super sharp, but the battery life does take a hit while it's in use. I did, however, find the 16" display to be the perfect size for everyday usage. Not too small not too big in a very light compact casing as well! With a generous 1TB SSD to start out with, I found it to be more than enough on top of my OneDrive storage which is intergraded with Windows 11 making any storage issues a thing of the past... for now. While it does come with Windows 11 Home, I upgraded to the 11 Pro for more features like the one I use quite often, Remote Desktop. While many reviews did mention the "softness" of the keyboard flexing while typing... I did not find that to be an issue for my typical usage. I don't really press on the keys heavily and found the keyboard to be more than rigid for my typing style. Rarely gets hot, slim, light, snappy and very well-equipped hardware. What's not to like?! Great deal when it's on sale! So, keep an eye out and consider this one! Thanks.

Needs RAM badly.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have to echo what everyone is saying. This laptop needs 32GB. I don't know why the entire industry is sandbagging the 7840U. This same laptop with an older APU come with 32GB of RAM. I suspect its because NVIDIA wants these companies to sell 3050/4050 dGPU's and is putting pressure on them. Don't buy! iGPU's use your system RAM. If you are gaming, a 16GB laptop will have 8GB of RAM for your game while a 32GB laptop will have 24GB for your game. That's HUGE performance gains.

Good laptop on paper, terrible execution.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A high end notebook with 16GB of non-upgradable memory in 2023 is completely unacceptable. The situation is made even worse by the fact that it uses an AMD APU which means that a large amount of the laptops memory will be allocated to graphics even further reducing the amount of memory the laptop has to work with. This is planned obsolescence and buyers should look elsewhere.
