The film is alright, but spectacularly rendered and transferred in 4K/HDR. Visually it remains Taymor’s strongest outing as a director - however, this doesn’t prevent the film from groan-inducing moments akin to a checklist.

I took my teen-age daughter to see this movie right after Thanksgiving. While she was familiar with Beatles music this movie brought her a whole new appreciation. The actors proved up to the difficult task of working with near sacred songs. I liked this film because it managed to cross several genres; protest film, road trip, buddy film, musical and love story. While this movie will not be nominated for any academy awards, it was nonetheless a very enjoyable work. I bought the soundtrack within hours of seeing the movie and have found it to be great road music. Bono's version of "I am the Walrus" was excellent as was Joe Cocker's "Come Togethor" and Prudence's "I Want to Hold Your Hand." A visually enjoyable movie, but concentrate more on the music. All the actor's did their own singing and they succeeded in producing some fine new renditions of classic Beatles hits.

Amazing Film

First let me say I watched this movie on Blu Ray NOT SD DVD. This is by far the best quality Blu Ray film I have ever seen. It is amazing 1080p quality, and the overall visual style of this film is amazing. While the story begins to dwindle about halfway through, it is still worth watching all the way through. While the story is great, and te visual style is amazing, the best part of this movie by far is the soundtrack. This movie is based on song lyrics from the beetles. The songs are performed by the actual actors in a musical style, but they are done very tastefully, and will make you like the individual songs alittle bit more. The songs are beautifully recreated in a more modern style, but still stay true to the originals.
This is defiantly worth buying if you want to show off the quality of your Blu Ray player. I bought it blind, and I am not disappointed!

If your a beatles junky then look no further. At first I didn't want to see it because I don't like musical I'm more f an action movie kind of girl. Boy was I wrong, this movie was full of action because it was focast on the Vietnam War. It was about how people in the 60's reacted to the war by combining the Beatles music and to show how the characters reacted to what was going on around them. This movie is very powerful and really picks up wha was going on in the world in the 60's. Across the Universe is an action, musical, and romantic movie packed in with alot more. The costumes and make up are unbelievable and the speacial effects can not even be compared to any other movie. You will regret not seeing this movie because it will blow your mind the first few minutes and once you start whatching it you'll never want to turn it off. In fact you'll want to whatch it again and again and again. This movie will rock your world.

This movie is so amazing that after I had finally received it at home I watched it 3 times in the first two days I had it. There is no way I could ever be tired of the movie. The pictures are amazing and wild. The actors and actresses are fresh faces and each role is unique and fitting. With this deluxe addition it was really cool to be able to see on the bonus disc, interviews with the characters and the director. It really gives you an inside feeling of the charisma and emotion put into the movie. The shipping of the movie was good, there was only a little dent in the outer box of the dvd set but not in the case itself. Overall, yes I would suggest this movie to people, especially the deluxe edition. Not only do you learn a great deal of Beatles music, it also gives an inside look/feeling of the draft and the war. It creates a realization to what really happened. Two thumbs up for sure.

I loved this movie the moment I saw the previews. This is one of those that will take a couple minutes to get used to in the beginning if you're not used to this genre. This is all musical-based. But every song is a song the Beatles or one of the individuals wrote and/or performed. The acting is superb in my opinion given the fact that there are only a couple actors/actresses you may recognize. If you love the Beatles music, there's no way you can be disappointed. If not, try it out and you may be pretty impressed with the quality. A lot of emotion, drama, comedy, etc. I highly recommend anyone see this film.

I was not sure if I would like this movie, but I did. My husband is the Beatles fan in our home and he absolutely loved this film. I heard him talking on the phone to his brother yesterday...highly recommending this movie. If you are not a die-hard fan, watch this movie with someone who is...it will increase your enjoyment ten-fold. I found myself humming and singing songs for days afterwards. The only complaint, which is not about the movie, is I wish all of the songs had complete subtitles...they were on for parts of the songs and missing for quite a lot. I don't know all the words...and I would have liked to. Of course, I just had to ask my husband...as he knows them all...so this is just a (very) minor complaint.

Psychadelic Fan Trip

Across the Universe is about as great a movie as you could make trying to incorporate as many of the Beatles songs as possible. The story at the beginning makes sense. You know where it's going and what it's characters' motivations are. The middle third however is a stream of unintelligible images as if the director was trying to simulate and acid trip in order to somehow take the viewer on a journey similar to what the Beatles themselves went through during the period in which the inclusive songs of the movie at this stage were written. When brought back to reality, the viewer notices the leads in a struggle love one another because of two very separate political ideals. The end is quite predictable and not really fitting to the rest of the story or to the Beatles songs that surround it. In the end the songs save the movie. Performances by Jim Sturgess and Joe Anderson mask the dull and awkward performance by Evan Rachel Wood and provide Across the universe with a quiet, but distinctive voice.

Across The Universe made me love Beatles music again. Now, that's not to say that I ever disliked it, The Beatles paved the way for everything that came after them and were astonishingly gifted musicians, but sometimes you feel oversaturated with their songs (especially with grating covers showing up in commercials). Hearing these versions of their songs sung by Evan Rachel Wood, Jim Sturgess, Joe Anderson, Dana Fuchs, Martin Luther McCoy, and T.V. Carpio, to name a few, reminded me of the timelessness of the Beatles music. Don't miss the heart-breaking cover of Let It Be in the first third of the film.

i love this movie. i saw it in theaters and i had my doubts because im not one for musicals and i was blown away. i love the beatles but the cast did so well with the music and the soundtrack and the movie did very well putting the beatles songs into a movie and a storyline. the songs litterally follow the storyline it is great. a great love story but lots of fun along the way and a lot of great characters, like the great young up and ocming jimi hendrix. its great for beatles fans, musical lovers, music lovers, and romance movie lovers. and many more i assume. not rent worthy, definitly buy-worthy!

unbelievable!!!! beatles fan (which i am) or not, this is a great movie with great performances of beatles' songs in almost every case. eddie izzard's "being for the benefit of mr. kite" was the only cover that was average. "with a little help from my friends", "let it be", and "it won't be long" were absolutely fantastic. the so-called beatles "purists" who ripped this movie were wrong. i am normally not a fan of other artists covering beatles' songs, but this movie is definitely an exception. buy this and watch it over and over, as i'm sure i will.

this movie was absolutely amazing from start to finish, the music was awsome (I really enjoyed their takes on the Beatles songbook), and the cameos by folks such as Bono, Eddie Izzard, and others were absolutely brilliant. The visuals in this movie were amazing, and they did a fantastic job of "creating the right feel" with every scene. Because of the nature of the visuals and audio quality of this movie, I'd highly recommend getting the BluRay edition because of the uncompressed sound & 1080p picture resolution... this film is worth it.

Beatles music, the 1960's, a love story

The imaginative and talented Julie Taymor (of Broadway's Lion King fame), does an incredible job of creating a movie that is true to the Beatles' music, the 1960's, and the characters. The acting is not good, it is superb. The standout performances (acting and singing) from Evan Rachel Wood, Jim Sturgess, Joe Anderson, and Dana Fuchs are truly impressive. I cannot believe how seamlessly Taymor wove the Beatles' music with the story line. An overused word needs to be used here -- this is a masterpiece.

Going into this movie, I was worried. I'm not much for chick flicks, and I was afraid that's what this was going to be, butI loved this movie. I found it very touching. Most of my friends, beatles fans and non fans alike also really enjoyed it. I know it seems to jump around a bit, but the thing to remember here is, they're not just telling one story, there are several. I really loved the way the director set up some of the scenes theatrically. That's not something you see in a lot of movies.

Amazing Movie, and Best Soundtrack

The imagery in this movie a visual mind trip. The soundtrack is all Beatles covers sang by the actual actors (all of which have amazing voices) with some big name rockers appearing along the way. With characters such as Lucy, Jude, and Prudence, this story of love and life, and war and revolution is told through the songs of the Beatles. This is by far the best musical I've seen, and Blu-ray takes it to a whole new level. This movie is one amazing audio/visual experience.

An Underrated Musical...

If I could only recommend one musical from the past decade or two this would be it. I think that everyone was cast well for this film even Evan Rachel Wood as Lucy. I think all of the covers of the Beatles music were really well done. All of Julie Taymor’s directoral efforts are worth watching IMO. The 2 CD soundtrack for Across the Universe is worth a purchase also.
