Don’t Purchase for Use with MS Teams

I purchased the AfterShokz OpenComm headset for use with my company-provided HP laptop while on MS Teams meetings. Initially the performance of the headset was great and I had no issue with the fact that the buttons on the headset didn’t work with Teams (a known issue noted by others) because, as I was already on my laptop for the meetings, it was easy enough to instead just manage the mute/volume via the Teams window. At some point however, maybe after a few months of use, the headset started performing differently. Upon muting the headset via the Teams window, the headset would say “Mute On” and then give a *very loud* double beep every 5-10 seconds … and unfortunately the volume of this beep could not be adjusted with the volume control in Teams or on the headset. This was no mere annoyance and the workarounds which others have described make it difficult to quickly come off mute to contribute meaningfully during meetings … therefore this has rendered the headset useless to me and I had to return to my old wired headset. I have contacted AfterShokz about this and, although the response varies depending on which Customer Service person I get, it seems that this is a known issue with no clear fix (Their suggestions to reset the headset did not work). I have therefore requested a refund but have not yet been successful in obtaining one. Unfortunately, during the initial period of good performance, I had recommended the headset to a number of my coworkers and this same issue has appeared for them (albeit at different points in time which makes me think it has nothing to do with our corporate IT setup). Conclusion: if you’re looking for a headset to use with MS Teams, don’t buy this one.

Hello John- Thanks for providing your feedback! We are happy to assist you with the beeping issue and Microsoft Teams. For now the current work around for that is to go through the browser rather than the app. Please feel free to reach back out to our Customer Happiness Team if you need further assistance. Thank you! Surprisingly poor quality. I’ve been happier with their other headsets.

I am very confused by all the reviews on how great the product is for hearing. They are supposed to utilize the bone so free up your hears to properly ear. I have a manager that purchased a pair. He was so excited at the prospect of not yelling into his phone. He is absolutely known for being overly loud and shrill. He was absolutely convinced his frequency would be reduced to proper decibels. This product has done NOTHING. He still shouts into the tiny microphone and I can still hear him through the walls of this office building. I can hear him from behind a cinderblock wall. I'm not sure how fantastic this product actually is. To each their own, I'm unsure at who really benefits from this product.

Charged after opening, made two calls to check out quality. I talked for approximately 4 minutes total. Three days later I drove to my semi truck, paired the two, and talked for about 75 minutes to a family member. Battery died. Not sure if it was turned off on the 25th and used idle time, but today on the 29th I will be testing after fully charging over night. Will leave another review to update.
