We’ve come a long way since having homemade cloth masks as one of our only options for filtered breathing in the US. While masks have become easier to buy from most retailers, it’s nice to see some options that offer comfort, reliability, and some longer lasting protection against airborne illness.
The AIRPOP Active serves to provide a more comfortable experience for the wearer, while offering even better protection from the air around you. In the box you’ll find the outer portion of the mask which houses the filter, four sealed filters which include a soft rubber like seal around your nose and mouth, a storage bag, and a manual. The outer mask has a mesh like look and feel, with a soft rubber portion nearest the elastic band. The band itself has two small adjustable bead like pieces that serve to adjust the fit around your ear. I should note, that it does come with some additional pieces, should one fall out during regular use.
The filters are each sealed, showing a manufacturer and use by date. Once opened, you’ll find they each have a nose/mouth gasket seal, which is attached to the filter, and can’t be removed. Each filter is designed to last up to 40 hours or so of use. So you can depend on the filter to last a standard work week, but will likely go through a couple a week if you’re more active in the general public. The outer shell has two notches where the filter is pushed into and held in place. Once installed, you can place the mask on your face for the best fit. The soft rubber like gasket does a great job of sealing your airflow within the filter, which has an almost flannel like feel. While you’ll notice some perforations along the mask lines, they also have micro mesh within them, appearing to block external droplets.
The downside to this mask is the overall fit to your face. The soft rubber gasket like seal also makes the external shell pop up away from your face a bit. This was a constant annoyance as I would put on my sunglasses and the top of the mask would obscure part of the lens. While they didn’t fog up from air being pushed up, I found myself constantly pushing the shell downward out of the way. The mask doesn’t have any type of shape support, like a small tin seen in the single use masks and takes time to really stay in place. I will say, you can breathe easily with the mask on, with the outer shell and filter molding out space in front of your mouth.
You’d also need to consider the cost of the replaceable filters based on how active you are and your use of the mask. Over time, the cost of ownership would surpass that of a traditional reusable mask, or even the bulk packs of disposable masks. You can’t use the outer shell alone for any type of protection, as it has much larger perforations throughout, allowing maximum airflow. It is intended to be used solely with the filter installed. The included storage bag does help with extending the life of the filter, and I’d strongly suggest storing it inside the bad during extended periods of non-use. If you’re going to be in an office, or other environment, most of your day that requiring the use of this mask, make sure to pick up some extra filters.
As the name suggests, this mask really does fit the style and fit of something you’d wear in an active lifestyle. It offers both style and function, performing the function effectively with a longer lasting filter. You’ll need to consider the on-going cost of ownership with replaceable filters required. Overall, this mask (with the filter) provides some much needed peace of mind, and just requires some time to shape into place. If you plan on wearing glasses with these, you'll be safe from fogging if worn correctly, but may have to adjust it often.

Having experience with disposables to cloth facemasks, each has their pro and cons and mostly cons. The Airpop does bridge the gap between form and function but falls a bit short and I’ll explain more below.
Pros:
• Comfortable
• Easy to put on
• Mostly a good seal
• Comes with small storage pouch
Cons:
• Not certified by FDA, NIOSH or CDC
• Funny smell to the filter
• One size fit most, but not all
Airpop is fairly new to the face mask category but has an innovative approach to have both protection and function. The outer shell is semi-rigid to hold its dome shape. This is to keep the material off your lips, which allows for easier breathing and talking. The caveat is that since it’s a one-size-fits-all approach, I feel like the shape is a too much for my face. I can stick my tongue out and barely hit the other side. This makes the side profile a bit goofy and I feel goofy wearing it.
The 2nd part of this mask is the disposable paper filter. It’s no ordinary filter. This paper filter has 4 layers and has the important rubber gasket. Like I mentioned before, it may fit the most average face but it doesn’t seal against my chin very well. The box includes 4 filters rated for 40 hours of use each. Another $20 can get you 4 more replacements at $5 each. Or $5 a week if you wear it for work during the 40hour work week. The replaceable filter is proprietary so you are stuck buying their filters.
This Airpop is marketed for the “Active”. I do give them credit here as I can be running or jumping without any issues of the mask coming off my face. The semi-rigid outer shell is great to keep the paper medium from getting sucked into my nostrils or mouth while I’m catching my breath during a workout or when playing sports. I do wear the airpop if im out running errands so it’s comfortable for both Active and regular use. The only caveat is that its not easy to slip the facemask off your nostrils when you’re walking outside back to your car. The semi-rigid system will only allow “full on the face” and nothing in between so keep that in mind for using this for casual wear.
In summary, if your gym or team sport requires you to wear a mask, then this mask is for you if you want the ultimate protection. The seal is good for most and I do believe that it filters more than 99% of PM2.5 as I can’t blow paper off my desk with the mask on. Knocked a rating down for the one size approach. The side profile is crazy large.

The Least Sucky Mask

I hate wearing a mask. But getting COVID sounds worse, so I wear one. And this is the best one I've ever worn. The main reason I love this mask is because it creates a bubble around your face so the material is not touching your nose or your mouth. There's nothing worse than a fabric mask getting wet and sticking to your mouth and nose.
Second, the replaceable filter has a rubber seal around it, sealing your mouth and nose making sure no particles get out or in without going through the filter. I've always wondered how useful a mask is if I can feel my breath coming out the sides and the top. This seal also makes sure the mask stays on your face and prevents your glasses from fogging up.
Lastly, whatever material they make the mask out of makes it pretty easy to breathe. It's advertised as an active mask, and I've been outside exercising in the sun with it, and had no problem getting too hot or breathing.
I will say, it takes a bit to get used to. The seal on your face feels funny at first, but after a couple of wears, you'll love it.
There are a couple of cons to this mask. First, the seal will create a sweaty ring on your face, and the plastic wings on the side of your face will get sweaty too. However, it beats having a sweaty cloth mask on your face any day in my book. Second, the mask goes pretty far up on your nose, so despite it not fogging up your glasses, it does make it a little harder for glasses to fit on your nose. Third, because of the sturdy material, it's not as easy to fold up and put in your pocket. It still fits, but takes up most of my pocket. Lastly, and the only thing that I think can be improved, are the comfort of the strap tighteners. They have a somewhat sharp edge that can make the back of your ears a little sore after a long wear.
All in all, a great mask. Highly recommend.

Comfort & Style In A Mask

In the world we live in today, mask requirements are everywhere. While there are many options to choose from, Airpop offers a stylish, comfortable, and more protective wear over one-use masks.
Upon opening the box, the Airpop Active mask includes 4 filters rated for non-medical use. Each filter is rated to last 40 hours (more on filters below) and a small plastic carrying bag. The mask itself is large; it will easily covers one's nose and mouth area with the filter. The filter "pops" into two tabs located on the left and right sides of the inside of the mask. It has a slip-resistant rubber material that runs around the nose and mouth area and helps the mask stick to one's skin to create a seal.
The Airpop Active mask provides up to 99.3% particle filtration and 99.9% baterial filtration, according to their website. The outside shell is water, humidity, and abrasion resistant as well. While wearing it with glasses, I did notice that they fogged up a little, but less than what they regularly do with other masks. I did find that it holds well when exercising and didn’t find that the filter sticks to my mouth. When speaking, I didn't find the filter tries to stick to my mouth either, and my voice is able to project itself louder than when wearing other reusable masks. I am able to breathe comfortably and use it without issues in day to day activities.
The two gripes I have about the Airpop Active is that it is a large mask to the point where it inhibits you from seeing something directly below you. For example, if you were walking down a set of stairs and you were to look down at your feet, the mask would cover that part of your field of vision. While I don't personally consider this as dangerous potentially harming, it did bother me to a degree. If you try hard enough, you can still see the object you're trying to look at in a downward direction, but not directly with both eyes.
Ultimately, this is a great, very comfortable, stylish, and reusable mask I have begun to use everyday. I recommend it for those wanting to upgrade from their current mask and are looking for comfort, style, and usability in their mouth covering.

AIRPOP Active "Air Wearable" Mask
Summary: A sleek fitted mask that has disposable filters that fit snuggly against your face for a proper seal and protection.
Pros:
* Sleek. It's a nicely designed mask.
* Reusable mask, disposable filter. Get a nice look and protection.
* Snug fit. I am partial to the ear straps for securing masks around one's face. It provides a customizable fit and doesn't slide up/down the back of my head.
* Contoured cup. The mask has space in the front to allow for a better exchange of air. Without it and with the efficient filter, I think it would be hard to use and perhaps feel a bit claustrophobic.
* Extra filters. Four additional replacement filters are included with the mask.
* Carrying bag. This product includes a carrying bag which makes it easy to keep it clean and prevent direct contact with other surfaces when not being worn. Alternatively, you could store a spare filter, etc.
Cons:
* Filter clips. The snap-in-like clips for the filters aren't so snap-in. They are a little wonky to get the perfect alignment/connection. But, once attached, fit well.
Use:
I wore this mask around the house and while going for a walk with the dogs a few times. I even tried going for a brisk walk where I was physically exerting myself for a short period. I am overweight so this may be a limiting factor for me.
The seal produced by the replaceable filters is definitely tight and I was shocked at how restrictive it felt (compared to the 1$ blue masks and cloth stuff sold in stores).
The specs say this mask can filter out the smallest of airborne particles 0.3 microns or larger (this includes chemical aerosols, coal ash, and bacteria) and it does so at a 99.3% efficiency. While I certainly wouldn't be able to prove these claims, I will say that the fit and the seal don't give me a reason to doubt the specs.
Despite being labeled "Active" I am not sure I would wear it for a run, or where ever I might be physically exerting myself.
I most certainly will wear this when in confined spaces with other persons such as on a plane or bus.

All thorough the pandemic, I've been wearing handmade two-layer pleated cloth masks that fit over my nose, under the bridge of my glasses, and cover my chin. They're big, and being handmade by my mother-in-law, I was at the mercy of whatever fabric she had on hand, so they're not my favorite, style-wise. They also get pretty sweaty.
When I saw this Airpop mask that was specifically designed for physical activity, which both promised to work with glasses and filter 99% of particles, I was very interested. From the photos on the box, the mask looks fairly sleek, and the idea of replaceable filters that weren't just little squares of material you shove into a pouch really intrigued me.
Unfortunately, during my time using it, this Airpop Active mask has been a disappointment. Here are the pros and cons:
Pros:
• The silicone seal works pretty well, even over a full beard, and keeps my glasses from fogging.
• The material of the mask stays away from my mouth, which is a welcome change from cloth masks.
• It comes with a storage bag so it doesn't get dirty if you put it in a bag or your pocket.
Cons:
• It's big and kind of bulky.
• The silicone seal leaves marks on my skin and makes me sweaty.
• Mine had a problem with a crease in the front of the mask (see pic). It looks weird and I would return the mask if I could.
• I don't feel like the filters are doing their job. When I breathe on a mirror wearing this mask, I can fog it up without much effort. I can't fog the mirror with my cloth masks on. Not saying that this means the filters don't work; just that I have my doubts based on how easy it is for breath to travel through them.
• The bag that holds it feels very flimsy and cheap
• Each filter comes with a QR Code to verify its authenticity, but when you scan the code, the URL shows an error. It looks like it's trying to open a WeChat link, but I couldn't get it to work. Does not inspire confidence.
All-in-all, I am disappointed in this mask. I don't think I trust it in a situation where I feel like I could be exposed to the coronavirus. I might use it if I was going to be in a crowd outside, like for a 5k run, because it would keep the fabric out of my mouth while I ran and make breathing somewhat easier than a cloth mask would.
But I'm going to stick with my trusty old cloth masks. I've worn them in stores, on airplanes, and everywhere in between. I feel good about putting them in my pocket and taking them out again. They're easy to use, and if I need more, I only need to ask. More importantly, I managed to avoid getting sick wearing these masks for the past 18 months.

I must use a mask pretty much all day when teaching/coaching. I normally purchase a 50 pack of the disposable masks but was interested in something a little more robust. I am glad I gave this Airpop Active mask a shot.
For some context, I spend most of the day from around 7am until 5pm with a mask on. I generally only take it off for around 45 minutes during the day. I also wear glasses and have struggled to find a consistent way to keep my glasses from fogging up when using disposable masks. I have loved using the Airpop – Active. Because the mask is pulled away from your face, it makes it easier for me to speak and not sound like I am muffled. The silicon ‘gasket’ that goes around the nose area on your face also does a great job of keeping my glasses from fogging up and keeping the mask in place. The mask feels way more secure than the previous ones I was using. It is not uncomfortable in the slightest, and because it did a great job of not fogging up my glasses, I hardly noticed it was on after a while.
I will say that the only downside I noticed when I first began using it was that when I took off the mask, it felt like a pressure coming off my face and left a slight line around my face where the mask rested. After a couple of days of use, I didn’t really notice this anymore.
If you wear glasses, spend long stretches of time with a mask on, or play sports/coach, then this is a great mask to go with. The mask stays put, I never felt like I needed to adjust it, or move it away from my mouth. The silicon ring did a great job of keeping my glasses fog free and resting the mask securely on my face.

Let's face it...wearing a mask sucks, but it's something we need to do to protect ourselves and those around us! I find myself venturing out more and I wanted a mask that was more permanent than the disposables I've been using, but I didn't want a cloth was that didn't offer protection.
The AirPop intrigued me because it looked like the mask gave your nose and mouth some space to breathe and I liked that you could refresh with the new liners.
Packaging was impressive and I was happy to see that there are 4 included filters. The ear straps are comfortable and very easy to adjust. The filters go in easy enough, but the holes in the filter tend to pop off the tab pretty frequently. I might have added a little notch in the tab for the filter to slide into.
Comfort was great! It's definitely the same heavy breathing experience as wearing an N95 mask but I like that I can wash the gasket that touches my face, I like the tight seal, and I like that I don't have material touching my lips all the time.
Overall VERY impressed with the AIRPOP.

This mask has two main components- the outer shell and the inner filter, and you need both for it to be effective. The filter is a little finicky to pop into the shell, but not too difficult. This mask is not a good fit if you wear glasses.

First I will say that I like how this mask looks and feels, especially for the type of mask it is. I have had many co workers ask about it and that they like how it looks. and its water resistant.
This mask is comfortable to wear long hours for the most part. I say most part because it can get hot and the seal is rubber so can start to sweat.
I were safety glasses for work and they do fog but not as bad, however these have on the top were it sits on your nose at, a couple flaps that you can fold upward and when I put those up, then my glasses dont fog up. down side is I feel that I have to keep adjusting the flaps, but being that my job requires us to wear masks, I am glad to have one that I can wear and not keep getting my glasses fogged up.
I am not allowed to wear those masks that have the filter with the valve on them as those only filter when you breathe in and not out. This mask filters both in and out. With that, I was expecting it to be a lot harder to breathe but its still easy to breathe out of.
It comes with a nice storage bag. I wish it was just a tad bit wider but I figured out a easy way to get mask to fit in. I place it in the bag with the strap piece first and also the nose piece and slide it in. but would still have been nice to have it a bit wider but at least it came with a bag.
some reasons on 4 stars.
like I mentioned, the part were nose is, has flaps that you can fold up. when I move some like breathe in a bit deeper, yawn etc that moves the mask a bit, those flaps tend to want to fold back under. just a inconvenience at times to have to do.
my biggest complaint is I feel the price is a lot. it would be nice if it was a one time cost. I dont see anything on if you can wear the mask without the filters per say, just wont be protected, but I would have loved to maybe see a cloth piece maybe that may not be as good as having the filter part, but maybe good enough if you are not around a lot of people and that could be hand washed and reusable.
as it stands, this is 60 dollars and you get 4 filters that last about 40 hours of use. after that you have to buy sets of 4 filters I believe at 20 dollars.
for me I would wear this at places that have a lot of people, like walmart, safeway etc. and then work were I am not around to many people but still have to wear a mask I would have loved to have a reusable cloth piece or something.
overall though, I enjoy having this mask, if you want a mask that seals your face a bit better and filters a bit better then this mask is for you. I highly recommend it for times you are going to need a mask and are around a lot of people. just know that you would have to change out the filter.

This is a good mask for travel that while expensive, is comfortable long trips.
Size wise it was too small for my face, and tended to slip up with facial hair. For smaller faces without facial hair, the fit is great, offers ample room inside for talking, and does not ride up.
At fullI price these are too expensive. I snagged it on a daily deal, so worth it at 30-40% below MSRP.

The AirPop Active mask is a marvelous change from the disposable masks I’ve been wearing that last year and half. It’s a lot more comfortable and **doesn’t fog up my eyeglasses,**
The material feels high-quality and very comfortable to wear. The filter is a little tricky to get in the right spot, but seems to stay there once you’ve gotten it right. I have a light beard (at little heavier than stubble) so the seal isn’t perfect but I imagine it would be a lot better for a clean-shaven face. The size is perfect for me - and for reference, I typically wear a medium or large. My face is probably about average size.
The shape of the AirPop mask is unique and keeps the inner fabric layer away from my mouth so it’s a lot easier to talk while wearing it. It’s also more breathable than an N95 or KN95 which is more comfortable - though I still wear an N95 or KN95 if I have to be in a public/crowded area. One thing to note - this mask does not work well for “double masking” as some people like to do in higher-risk situations.
The only caveat I would mention is the ear loops which, I have learned, fit and feel differently for everyone. As someone who wears glasses any second I am awake (regular, sun, reading, etc.), I found the loops to be a little bit irritating after two solid hours of wearing the mask, likely because they are thicker and tighter than the disposable masks I’m used to. This would not deter me from purchasing the mask - just something to be aware of and possibly expect. I give this a big thumbs up.

The Good:

2. The filter never touches the mouth
3. The mask is very comfortable and loose on the ears
4. Comes with 3 filters
The Bad:
1. Get used to the strong plastic smell in the beginning
2. The filter's outer plastic layer will stick to face in humid weather
3. Lack of instructions on how often to changing out the filter
4. Mask could look visually oversized or bulky
