Great headphones. Purchased them for the band I'm in. They work well with our PA system. Completely blocks out any outside noise. And allows me to adjust the Pa to hear exactly what I want to hear. Also it has a 1/4" to regular head jack adaptor so you can use it on your smart phone as well. If your looking for a new set these smash the competition. Go get yourself a pair.

Most cans will wear you out in short order. Not these ultra comfy tanks. Yes, they are huge but they sound wonderful. Full, no loss sound and long sessions will make you smile. These are not for casual listeners but for people that LOVE music and enjoy quality. Built for years of audio pleasure. Please do not assault these with MP3s. They deserve analog signals and a high quality amp to make them really shine. They sound great on my Marantz amp and CD player. They really satisfy when the wax plays. Get some and give them about 50 hours break in time. They get better and better. Spend a little more now and you will have some cans that will last for years. P.S. They scream quality from the box they are in to the professional "Studio" appearance.

I thought these headphones had great sound and they folded up easily. I compared them with a different pair more than half the price and actually loved the sound so I exchanged them. It really depends on your needs and I only needed them for mixing music on tablet and laptop.

Really comfortable headphones with great sound. Had to get an extension for the cord, but my setup is rather far away from where I'm sitting. No complaints.

I think these headphones are awesome. Sound quality is definitely subjective and all, but if you want your music to sound the way its produced, these are really good budget headphones. Hands down, sounds better than some BEATS or BOSE (stands for: BUY OTHER SOUND EQUIPMENT). But thats only if you value quality of sound over mainstream, over marketed products, endorced by celebrities. Visit a local Best Buy Magnolia and hear for yourself. The BEATS and BOSE headphones arent even displayed together for that reason because people would hear the difference in sound quality.

If you just like sitting down and listening - you will love these. They aren't the most detail, but they wont wear you out either. The over the ear design is comfortable. Great for Jazz and Classical.

In a word-Wow!
I am very impressed with these headphones.
I currently own three other pairs of good headphones, each of which has its particular strengths and shortcomings.
The Audio Technica ATH-AD900s have a huge soundstage and lots of separation between instruments, but block no outside noise. They can be a bit too detailed at times, however, and tend towards brightness. Finally, they are a bit lacking in bass punch.
The Sennheiser HD280 Pros have great bass (both quantity and quality), block outside noise fairly well, and have good detail. They can sound congested, however, and are rather uncomfortable.
The Bose QC15s have a lot of bass quantity (not so much quality), eliminate outside noise, and are very comfortable. The soundstage is about halfway between the other two, and detail is a tad muddy. Also, they have a rather odd frequency response.
Enter the AKG K550s. They are not only significantly better overall than any of the others, but better at each one’s particular strength as well. If they have any shortcomings, I have yet to find them. When I auditioned them, I was sold in a matter of seconds, because the sound is simply awesome!
Best of all is the bass, which is not only deep and powerful, but super tight as well.
Detail is perfect, never muddy but not fatiguing at all.
Frequency response is well balanced.
Comfort is fabulous.
Soundstage is larger than the AD900s, and those are open!
Isolation is better than the Sennheisers, and almost as good as the Bose despite not having active noise canceling.
I love these so much that all three of my others are for sale, and these are the only headphones I ever anticipate listening to again.
If I had bought some $1500 flagship headphones, and they had sounded this good, I would have thought I got my money’s worth, but these were only $300!
Finally, they are built like a tank and nice looking to boot.
You simply cannot go wrong with these. Highly, highly recommended (and I would give 6 stars if I could.)

Probably the best-sounding closed headphones

I have been shopping around for the best-sounding headphones to play non-compressed music (Apple Lossless and WAV files) on my iPod Classic.
I have tried several leading headphones in the U$ 200 to U$ 600 range, with varied results...in summary, none were clear favorites.
I am glad to report that the AKG K550 has a much cleaner and powerful sound than all the previous headphones, WHEN USED WITH AN iPod CLASSIC.
Its midrange is natural, liquid and clean, up there with headphones costing three to four times its price. Bass punch is good if not outstanding, bass definition is among the best and most importantly, its treble response is clean and never bites.
The headphone is built like a tank and should last many years, even in careless hands.
IMO, for those who value sound quality and durability, the AKG K550 is a bargain.

I find these headphones very accurate and balanced overall. These are not Beats or Souls, with an over cooked bass. While that's impressive, it's not always correct. If the bass is present, you'll hear it in all it's glory. Midrange is smooth and natural; perhaps a bit of emphasis in the low treble, but nothing annoying. These benefit from a nice amp or mixing board to drive them, but will do just fine directly for the headphone jack of your portable. You'll want to try these on first, or make sure you can return them, because you need the cups to seal around your ear - if not, you'll lose bass. Kind of large headphones; long cord.

Unleash your inner audiophile on a budget

First, let me start by saying that I have owned a number of different headsets for a number of years, and these have been by far my favorite in the price range. These cans outed a pair of Sennheisers that I had on to for a number of years. There a number of fantastic things about these, and a couple of things I wished AKG had improved before sending these to the market. Also, I'm writing this review after having owned this set for two years.
Love:
First and foremost, the audio quality. The frequency range on this set is incredible. There are so many subtle nuances that I can hear with this set over numerous others, yet it is still refined and untouched. I listen to a large variety of music genres and the k550's did not disappoint me.
Build quality: Fantastic, and simple. The cups are a great size, leaving my ears encompassed rather than smashed between the ear pad and my head. The metal composition has really held up over two years of abuse. I travel with this set and use it at home, so it sees a lot of use. The points of adjustment also click into place and stay there unless the required force to extend or depress is applied, so they won't adjust themselves like other brands I have owned. The cups an headband are as soft today as the day I purchased the set. There is no cracking, tearing, or any signs of wear. The 1/4" adapter that comes with it has a slight thread on it, which means it will not lose grip over time. The cable length is also something I really enjoy. Having 9' can be cumbersome when traveling with this set, but I am able to walk comfortable with this set with the excess cable pocketed with a portable device. At a listening station, the cable length is perfect for being able to recline, or even stepping away to grab something off a near something.
Wishes:
The only thing I really would have changed with this set is the tension the band provides (which is odd, people normally complain that a set is too tight). Even adjusted to my head, they tend to slide from front to back or vice versa when I tilt my head up or down. Very minor compliant, but still something I wish was different. Some people complain that this set isn't "bassey" enough for them, and I disagree. The low end frequency is fantastic and doesn't blow your eardrums every time there is a deep strike in the low end. This is appreciated after owning other active noise canceling sets that over saturate the low end with over-processed bass.
In the end, this is a fantastic set for the money. If you've been looking for a set to wear for hours on end, that will still look and feel brand new after years of use, purchase these. These will not provide thundering bass that you expect from other companies, but will provide a true to the recording sound quality with out processing it.

I am in love with these headphones, the style on them are just absolutely gorgeous. I haven't even owned these headphones for more than a few hours and I can't get enough of them. The sound quality is perfect, I am hearing things in songs I've listened to tons of times that I didn't hear before.

Amazing sound and fit!

AKG K550: Okay so first thing, the fit is amazing! They encompass the ear with a nice/snug fit yet your ears don't get sore like the Beats tend to do to your ears. The sound is amazing! They look way better than certain Beats do (at least to me anyways). They also swivel (the ear cups that is). They are very very strong and feel solid. You can bend them very very far to put over your head unlike Beats where after about a year or two of constant use, they WILL break (happened to me) at the metal (door looking) hinge. The only downer is that they don't offer the deep bass and "rumble" the Beats offer. They do offer a slight rumble feeling but nothing like the Beats line. I like the Beats because I can actually feel the music on my head. But other than that they are amazing! Oh and when you first open the box they come in, it does smell a little off, haha but who cares! They are sweet for anyone who likes to listen to music for long hours and not look like all the other people that use Beats...
