One of the best anime’s out there. A great way to start if you have never seen a anime. It comes in a nice embossed metalcase which is similar to a Steelbook unlike a metalpak that has no real spine. Highly recommended.

cranked up the sound and watched it in 4K --am waiting to see if that can ever be improved.

This has it all.. children with psychic abilities, a crooked government, a motorcycle gang. Definitely not for kids though. Has a lot of bloody battles, so its your typical anime in that respect. Very good though.

Classic film, finally got in in 4K. If you like anime, give this a chance.

Saw this on the shelf and had to pick it up since it takes place in 2019. Still an anime classic. Cyberpunk story that goes a little Banannas by the end but isn’t that why we love anime?

Akira is a classic Anime film that really explores the a dark future. Really great film, but NOT FOR KIDS! please avoid watching around children because it can be graphic at times.

4k looks great. Watched this a kid, had to buy this movie.

This movie surprised me the first time I watched it. It had moments of amazing animation mixed in with a complex story thatll leave you on the edge of your seat.

An anime classic that looks great in 4K. Now, keep in mind that this is a traditionally animated film from the 80s. So, the intent here seemed to retain the original cell animation with HDR emphasizing the neon lights and effects, but generally, this presents the film as intended. It seems to strike the right balance. The detail you can see in the backgrounds is amazing. GHOST IN THE SHELL is another 4K release that I think looks great, but I think that film looks even better with the 4K treatment. Still, if you're an Akira fan, this is a great disc to add to your collection. There is no slipcover on this release, which surprised me. You get the 4K disc with the 2011 English 5.1, the 1988 English 5.1 and the Japanese 5.1. No special features. The Blu-ray is included and no special features are listed on the package. My understanding is that several of the features from the 25th anniversary set are not carried over, but I have yet to verify that myself.

I've been biding my time for the US to get a worthy collector's case for AKIRA, always disappointed that Japan and the UK got their exclusives. Finally, I couldn't be happier that the US got ours; and while it's not a SteelBook per se, it's crafted after the Viva Metal Box similar to those Disney used to produce a few years back. The cover has lovely pop-up edging of the iconic image of Kaneda approaching his bike with the AKIRA logo on bottom, with the interiors showing the equally iconic nuclear explosion engraved across the panels and spine. The discs themselves are the very same from the 25th Anniversary Edition, which its best new feature would have to be the inclusion of the original 1988 English dub. If you already own that edition, there's nothing new on disc, but another fantastic addition is the exclusive 32-page booklet included in the US Limited Collector's Edition that came out in 2009, showcasing some of the production process. While I'm bummed that they still didn't include all the special features from the 2001 DVD, I'm still very thrilled by this edition, and it's probably as complete as it will get for the Blu-ray format.

worth getting if you want everything akira! this is a classic anime that should be seen if you are an anime fan. this is an easy collectors item.
