Amazing film. Want to start off by saying that its amazing. As for the actual quality of the remaster it looks really great! I don’t have HDR but even then the colors were bright and vibrant! Animation was really amazing and smooth. Would love to look for more like it. This was an excellent start for my 4K anime collection.

If you have to ask "What's Akira?", you shouldn't be allowed to watch anime. Columns and articles have been written for nearly 25 years over this landmark in animated cinema. It (along with Ghost in the Shell) firmly cemented the industry outside of it's native Japan. Every second of this film has been used in some other series for it's genre and trope defining grace. Cyberpunk should really be called "Akira Style" or "Wannabe Akira". The picture is as good as Akira will ever be. The movie was re-mastered in 2003 for DVD release , and while it looks glorious, they couldn't eliminate every speck, especially during darker lit sequences. The sound of Akira was the first release of a Dolby Hi-Def media port that utilized the hypersonic effect for both Region A and the Japanese ports, meaning it can deliver notes and sounds not even the human eardrum can register! While it may not be a new 7.1 Dolby Atmos track, it is certainly past the normal Audio 2.0 tracks found on most Japanese dubs to English. As far as extras go, there's an entire extras disc included in the Funimation release, as well as extras on the main presentation Blu-ray including interviews with the director and TV spots. If you didn't pick it up when Pioneer distributed it 4 years ago, GET IT NOW! No Blu-ray collection is complete without Akira.

Japanese anime movie "Akira", continues to be my best and most favorite film. The graphics and the script compel you along in breakneck speed and the artistic quality of the film will leave you breathless.
